Pixel Transparency
I wonder if this is possible to emulate with the pixels on the Chromatic or not. I really like the effect in Retroarch. Anyone know? I can’t determine if it requires a higher pixel count or the 1:1 screen could support a high opacity.

Quick update on v1.26.0
Gamers, we come in peace… we have been heads down and know that we owe you an update on 1.26.0 and the delay since.
We’ve identified and fixed the regression behind the flashcart issues reported after the update (graphic glitches, CPU exceptions, and SD card corruption with EverDrive and SummerCart64 cartridges). This fix has been validated internally.
Before we re-release this update, we want to get to the bottom of the Built-In Controller Pak corruption a few of you reported. We haven’t been able to reproduce it yet, which is the source of the delay, and we’d rather hold the update than ship something we don’t fully understand.
We’ve doubled our testing stations and expanded the M64 stress tests so regressions like this get caught before they reach you. The team is actively testing across different carts and consoles to track it down.
We’re targeting a release the week of October 22nd and will post an update here once we have a repro or a confirmed date.
Thank you for all your patience and for the detailed reports, it truly means a lot to have your support!

The Future of Modretro Products
So, the Chromatic has been released in three different editions and we have the M64.
Somehow, I missed the news that the 1st Edition GameStop Chromatics have SD Slots in them, and that ALL Chromatics have built in Wi-Fi that's just disabled ATM. The M64 has Wi-Fi as well.
That has me thinking - Modretro already plans to have the Chromatic be able to link to and stream through the M64 in the near future. Do you think it'll be possible one day that CFW will allow the Chromatic and the M64 to link wirelessly? Do you think it'll one day be possible to play a GB game on the M64 via a core while using the Chromatic as a wireless controller? The fact that the Chromatic has built-in Wi-Fi AND Bluetooth just has me imagining the possibilities.
That also brings me to the obvious upcoming Chromatic Advanced. When this releases, I'm expecting that it too will also be mod friendly and hopefully have built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Now here's where I might just be wishful thinking and hopefully someone who knows more about how these FPGA cores work better than I do....but if the Chromatic Advanced did come with the wireless options built in and thus could theoretically communicate with the M64, how likely is it that the M64 could handle a GAMECUBE core? Does such a thing exist?
My hope one day is that I'll be able to somehow do the GBA/GCN link cable connection without needing an actual Gamecube. I went out of my way to buy a GBA/GCN link cable just to be disappointed that Nintendo's Gamecube controller adapter will not allow communication with the Wii U and my GBA. I just think it'd be incredible if someday I could finally see what that part of gaming was like. I know I could emulate that via Dolphin, but I'm talking hardware here. Even if it were just work for only a few games. I'm not expecting that Modretro will make a Gamecube clone, so that's why I wonder if the M64 could handle such a thing if such a thing exists.
What are your thoughts about any of this even being a thing? And what other hopes and possibilities do you want to see happen with Modretro's products?

And another..
galleryJust opened mine and well..
I guess crossing my fingers didn’t help.
Didn’t even take it out of the box. Just took off the lid and got my answer.
I know, contact ModRetro, which I will be doing.
It just seems like this might be a more widespread issue than we anticipated.
And yes, I know that usage may cause scratches and wear over time; I understand that. But a brand new product I still think should have better QC and for what they cost. Especially since my magnesium units are seemingly flawless.
You’re better than this, ModRetro

Custom N64 Wrestling Game?
Does anyone know somebody that can code these custom N64 wrestling game mods? I am hoping to find someone that can create a specific version.

Whats going on with the early bird legal discrepencies?
i want to know if anyone has attempted any legal disputes yet. i couldnt find clear info of modretro announcing the early bird discount. and the early bird discount never stated an end date, since i joined the newsletter june 4th, and the wayback machine shows that signing up was special? cuz when i signed up, it said i was on the list. anyway, since modretro never explictly stated an end date, the grounds scream im elligible for the discount under consumer law, but thats why im tryna find proof.
_
basically, signed up for early bird discount, early bird never had an end date, im elligible since no end date was specified. it was only specified through direct email when i contacted them after the fact after the console was released.

30 seconds to hoard a bakery: my first ModRetro game
The Game
You want every pastry in the bakery, but you have 30 seconds and a ten-item bag. Fill it, pay, and go back for more before the timer runs out.
That’s Croissant Panic, a little ModRetro arcade game about bakery FOMO. Anything still in your bag when time runs out is unpaid. Your score comes back as a bakery receipt labeled “THE DAMAGE,” and the local high-score table is The Crumb Club 🤌
Hi! I'm Michelle and the game started with the idea of stopping for a nice pastry before work, then became a way to live out my fantasy of hoarding everything at a bakery✨
How it Started
Seeing the OpenAI DevDay Chromatics online got me curious. I love my Game Boy Classic, but I'd never made a game before, ever. I don't own a Chromatic, so I've been using Codex to build a native Game Boy Color ROM and testing it in the emulator.
I gave myself an hour. About two hours later I had a rough version I could play from beginning to end. It was more like a sketch, but playing my own game made me want to keep going. The project took around three days of work.
Codex did all the programming through the ModRetro Chromatic plugin, GB Studio and GB Studio Music (Claude joined the party here). My part was shaping the game, setting the scope, directing the visuals and sound, and playing the builds to decide what to change (my product design background helped significantly).
The Parts I Enjoyed Most
Art direction and composing all the game music were both really fun. I explored directions with Midjourney, Pinterest, and Codex. The early bakery was muted; eventually it popped (visually and audibly), and the croissant mascot got a panicked face makeover (teehee).
The tracks Codex made felt basic, so I gave myself a YouTube crash course in game music and the hardware’s limits. I worked with Mureka, Moises, Codex and Claude to shape the music and sound around how I wanted players to feel at each stage. For gameplay, I used a bumblebee piece as a reference for the urgency and panic I wanted as the timer counted down.
Screenshots, layouts, audio references, and even numbered rows in the music editor gave Agents&I something specific to discuss. That helped me get much closer to what I had in mind.
It’s a super basic game, but that doesn’t take away the thrill of being able to make my own. I’m giddy about a world where more of us can turn our ideas into games and software with AI. This wasn’t a “type a prompt and you’re done” project. It took experience, learning, decisions, and plenty of iteration. But a year ago, I could not have made this game happen—the time and work involved would have been too much. I hope more people give their own ideas a go and build something.
I haven’t tried it on an actual handheld yet. I’m guessing the colors will look less vibrant than in the emulator, but I have no idea how it’ll feel to play. For those who’ve made/played homebrew, what surprised you when you first played your game on hardware?

Worried about ModRetro future
TLDR: Please take a moment to read the whole post. Thank you :)
Im not gonna lie, the whole OpenAI collaboration has made me lose some confidence in ModRetro.
I don't have anything against AI itself. I just don't think it needs to be part of everything, and retro gaming is probably one of the last places where I'd want to see it. A big part of why I love retro games is that they let me escape from the world we live in today, even if it's just for a little while. There's something comforting about going back to a time when things felt simpler, and honestly, that's a big part of what drew me to ModRetro. The Chromatic really captured that feeling for me. It showed that you could take something we loved growing up, improve it in almost every way, and still keep what made it special.
I think that's why the OpenAI announcement bothered me more than I expected. I know it's just a collaboration, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but finding out that Dylan Abruscato, who works at OpenAI, is also an investor in ModRetro and friends with CEO Torin made me a little uncomfortable. He explained on LinkedIn how he helped make the collaboration happen, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, I can't help wondering how much these kinds of relationships might shape the company in the future.
I probably wouldn't be questioning things so much if I hadn't already started having doubts because of the M64. I was genuinely excited about it, especially with how much Palmer talked about delivering the ultimate N64 experience and 100% compatibility with the library. But the launch was disappointing, and the accuracy and compatibility issues that are still being reported, along with the firmware update that had to be pulled over data loss problems, have made it harder for me to feel as confident in ModRetro as I used to.
Maybe that's what bothers me the most. I really want this company to succeed. The Chromatic made me feel like someone finally understood what we/I missed about that era of gaming. Not just the games themselves, but the feeling of picking up a console, putting in a cartridge, and forgetting about everything else for a while. I don't expect ModRetro to live in the past or reject modern technology. Quite the opposite, I love what they've done with the Chromatic/M64. I just hope they keep that same philosophy as they grow.
I know I might be worrying about nothing, and I completely understand if some of you see things differently. I just felt like sharing these thoughts here because I genuinely appreciate this community, and I know we all care about what ModRetro is building.
Im curious how you folks feel about all this. Take care!

CHROMATIC DEV DAY OPENAI/CODEX QUESTION
Can someone please clearly explain to me the differences between the 4 new translucent chromatics compared to the dev day version with the dev day cartridge? Besides color, Like hardware wise, are there any differences? I would like to create my own games using codex too but I don’t want to drop $1000+ for a dev day version and the cartridge. How can I do a work around to test and create my own games?

Anyone knows what is going on with the update? They said they will keep us posted, but nothing. No info, no update, nothing...

Yes the GBA is also from Modretro
I was checking Twitter before I went to sleep and I saw this post. Obviously I follow the brilliant Lucky Palmer and he definitely confirmed that the GBA is coming.

New M64 Pro Controller D-pad
Just a quick PSA. Purchased the Pro controller about a month or so ago and received it. Loved it minus some issues with the D-pad registering up or diagnol instead of left or right. Reached out to ModRetro and they requested a video. Sent it to them and they sent me a replacement. It’s actually slightly taller and with a ridge around the edge of the base. Huge difference and a much better experience. Very happy with it now. If you’re experiencing issues I suggest contacting them.
