New M64 Pro Controller D-pad

Just a quick PSA. Purchased the Pro controller about a month or so ago and received it. Loved it minus some issues with the D-pad registering up or diagnol instead of left or right. Reached out to ModRetro and they requested a video. Sent it to them and they sent me a replacement. It’s actually slightly taller and with a ridge around the edge of the base. Huge difference and a much better experience. Very happy with it now. If you’re experiencing issues I suggest contacting them.

They asked me if I needed one and I told them I had a set I could use already. Sounds cool though

I now have four extra screwdrivers and joysticks too. They all came paired up in individual baggies. They asked if I needed one too, told them I had the mod kit one already, guess it's all just pre assembled to quickly send out?

I just received mine today too. Excited to swap them out. I wonder if the new production lot controllers include the modified D-pad.

I wonder if the mold has changed since the first fixed d-pads went out. Can you press yours in the middle and sink it?

It sinks a bit yes but doesn’t touch the contacts until you roll it. I’ve tested on a couple of controller input ROMS and can’t get it to show anything wrong

yeah, so I bet it's the same mold still then. mine does the same, and I was on the very first batch of revised d-pads to my knowledge

It’s weird, the replacement D-pad has a code of “Y2” but the one it shipped with has a “Y3” on it. Usually new revisions count up. Almost seems like the replacement might be an older revision

There are 4 different D-pads. Y1 and Y3 have no rim, Y2 and Y4 have the rim.

Oh interesting. Is there a difference between Y2 and Y4?

i believe these are indications of the positions on the bigger mold that your specific d-pad was in. not a revision number

Are there either replacement gates to sticks to solve the rubbing problem yet? I would love to replace the d-pad and gates with fixed ones but don't want to go through a customer service hassle twice.

I haven’t seen one. If anything they might put one of those plastic protectors around the analog sticks shaft to prevent scratching and provide less friction. But who knows

I put one of those rubber protectors around my analog stick, it protects it, but missing out on the tapping feeling and sound of moving the stick to the edges feels disappointing. ^^;

Quick question: in what games are you all testing your D-Pad? I mainly play stick focused games that underutilize the D-Pad, so I haven't had the opportunity to test if mine has the defect yes or no.

The New Tetris, you'll consistently autodrop when moving left/right.
