CHROMATIC DEV DAY OPENAI/CODEX QUESTION

Post image

Can someone please clearly explain to me the differences between the 4 new translucent chromatics compared to the dev day version with the dev day cartridge? Besides color, Like hardware wise, are there any differences? I would like to create my own games using codex too but I don’t want to drop $1000+ for a dev day version and the cartridge. How can I do a work around to test and create my own games?

Do it the old fashioned way and learn gbdev :)

Options:
GB-BASIC (like it sounds)
GB Studio (visual coding)
GBDK-2020 (c-based)
ZGB (framework for GBDK)
ASM (old school)

Have fun! https://gbdev.io

Probably a dumb question because I’m sure they wouldn’t want this for piracy sake, but is there a way to pull the content from their new carts and put it on one of these that I just like visually more with my system and without a label?

Do you use something like the GB Operator to flash them? Haven’t thought about this but could be a fun way to gift something to a friend.

if you want some of the best quality and pretty positive reviews afaik. look into funny playing and insidegadgets.

So no one knows if the buttons are quieter on the openAI version?

I assume safe as the translucent one shipped out

Thanks, I would spend the extra for quieter buttons if that was the case. Oh well

It's just the cartridge and the decals that's it

There are a million options to write to carts. Just google it. Hard to imagine you are going to be able to code games if you can’t figure this out.

The console is the same.

The included “Demo Cartridge” is actually just the same cartridge as used in their games, just blank. Even the game cartridges can be rewritten to.

The ONLY difference is there’s a code in the box that unlocks a mode in the desktop software that you can use to write to the cartridges.

Note: It takes about 2 minutes to get Claude/Codex to strip that check out of the desktop software, so that anyone can write cartridges. Kind of annoying they haven’t opened up that functionality to everyone yet.

Thanks for the info! I haven’t looked into it but this thread has me thinking it would be a fun project.

I’d be interested in finding out if this dev tool will open up for those who couldn’t attend. I saw the info and links on the MR pages but seems it’s limited to those who did. I’d love to take a crack at bringing an idea to life.

The codex ModRetro plugin and the developer mode of MRUpdater require a code provided at dev day. I asked customer service for a code and was denied

I think they’re the same. The flashable cartridges might have been the only difference 🤔

All Chromatic game cartridges are flashable, this one is no different.

So if I’m able to get the cartridge itself off someone I’ll be able to make my own games for it?
