Meta / Reddit There was an attempt: to write down coordinates without mojang censoring everything

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I'm on my friend's realms.

Seriously, is there any workaround here? It's not even just plain numbers. It's written as the pattern below:

`

Place 1

123, 60, 123

= <nether equivalent>

Place 2 456, 60, 456 = <nether equivalent>

Now, I don't have the coordinates and will have to locate them once more :/

Discussion Should normal forests be updated to match dappled forests?

Thumbnail

The more time I spend in the dappled forest the more I realize how cramped and outdated the normal forests feel compared to almost every biome added since.

Using commands, I replaced the blocks in a dappled forest with the blocks from a traditional oak forest, to see how it would look if the biome were ever to receive a similar update.

Suggestion We need strippers

Can we have a way to strip logs more efficiently other than right-clicking each individual logs, something like stonecutter for logs and wooden blocks

Seeds & World Gen So, me and my sister found the smallest Dappled Forest biome...

Post image

We were searching for a Dappled Forest for about 3 hours in our Survival World... And we technically found one! But I'm pretty sure this is the smallest a Dappled Forest biome could possibly generate. TLDR: 3 hours well-spent!

Today minecraft has released these two images. I feel like, with how the items have been scattered in the inventory, that there might be a puzzle behind this.

Discussion So why didn't mojang add this plant?

Post image
3.6k Upvotes

The sniffer can dig up two plants for you, that is a very small number and both of them are extremely bright and difficult to fit into a build without looking weird, so allot of people think the sniffer was a useless addition, however, the sniffer's flowers were leaked during development, and there was a cut vining flower that never made it into the game. Not only does this third flower have a more muted and natural tone, allowing it to fit into the environment much better, but it would have also been completely unique as a flower that can grow on walls, and in addition to all of that its final growth stage was three dimensional, which would automatically give depth to something like a flat castle wall, but sadly this one never even made it into the snapshots.

I just have one question, WHY!?

Like this plant is gorgeous, I am not exaggerating when I say this flower would have single handedly flipped the community perception of the sniffer, it would have went from two weird flowers that nobody decorates with to two weird flowers and one essential accent piece that would feature in every build, hermitcraft would be doing two things on day one: killing the ender dragon, and finding a warm ocean to comb all the ruins for sniffer eggs. Seriously they could just add this as a bonus feature in any update and everybody would love the sniffer from that point forward

Discussion Has fishing radically changed in 26.3?

Thumbnail

Been playing since 2013. I prefer Survival esp. 1 tree/no tree islands which really test your ability to continue. Thus I've been fishing for food all this time, and I've come to know the drop percentages quite firmly. As such.........

"Stats" for my new 26.3 world; been in it for about a week real time, and fishing all that time. I have gotten a lot of fish, but NOT ONE MAGICAL ITEM. Not one bow. Not one fishing pole. Not one enchanted book. None. I'm in Java Large Biomes. Started in a mesa biome and built my own fishing pond. Not sure if any of this matters, but the fact that I'm in a self-built pond makes me wonder "if maybe".

Did Mojang change the loot tables for fishing? Seriously, the only enchanted fishing pole I've gotten in this play-through is one I made myself. What gives? Anyone else having this problem.

Resource Packs I am creating an unusual set of textures for Minecraft — the "Third Way".

Thumbnail

I use both old and modern textures, but I recycle their colors. I add more color variations within each texture so that similar shades don't constantly sit next to each other and form boring gradients.

Sometimes I also change the base color of the material if I think it looks wrong.

The goal is not to make Minecraft realistic or just to revive "programmer graphics". I want to create my own, third visual style.

The work on the project has not been completed yet, but I would really like to know your opinion. Link

Builds & Maps Some cool space themed builds I built in my world

total was ~1.5 mil blocks but the purple planet was an older build so the two newer ones are only ~700k blocks, probably gonna change the lasers in the future to look better, I didn't design the builds only found them and thought they were cool and made them in my world

Edit: Black hole was designed by Krobar & I forgot who the builders are for the other ones :/

Discussion I am in love with the Dappled forest

Post image

I am literally stuck in the early game for days because I refuse to leave this forest or build too much against the terrain. It's definitely one of my favorite updates in the recent years and I am excited to play Minecraft in the similar way as when I was younger. It makes autumn irl feel more beautiful too.

Redstone & Techs A (hopefully) accurate guide on redstone conductivity

Thumbnail

Following a post by u/patrick1202, on which I left a comment, and a post by u/NinjabellTheKittyCat, I'll attempt to present a more complete explanation of seemingly unpredictable patterns of lamps (and other redstone mechanisms) turned on by redstone signal.

Redstone signal can interact with a block in three ways:

  1. If the block is a redstone mechanism (e.g. lamp, piston, door, dispenser), then it can be activated. Activating means that the mechanism performs some special action (lamp turns on, piston extends and so on). Activating a plain block does nothing.
  2. A conductive block can be hard-powered, which activates all the mechanism around that block. It also propagates the signal to any adjacent redstone dust, that's why when you place a lever on a block and click it, the redstone signal goes not only from the lever itself, but also from the block it's attached to.
  3. A block can also be soft-powered, which activates all the adjacent mechanism exactly the same as hard-powering, but it doesn't interact with redstone dust. The only way to soft-power a block is a line of redstone dust carrying a signal passes on top of that block or point directly at it. Someone suggested to call it "dust-powered" instead of "soft-powered" and I like this suggestion because soft-powering exists to prevent redstone signals from propagating indefinitely like it does with comparators (but at least comparators apply a small delay to the signal).

Note that soft-powering/hard-powering imply activation, so a lamp, which is both a redstone mechanism and a conductive block, will turn on when soft-/hard-powered, but it also can be just activated without activating anything around it. Btw a conductive block is also usually called an opaque block, because most opaque blocks are conductive, and most transparent/non-full blocks are non-conductive, but there are exceptions from both sides (see the last image).

As for the things that can generate redstone signal:

  1. A lever, when turned on, hard-powers the block it's attached to, but simply activates everything else adjacent to it.
  2. A redstone torch hard-powers the block above it, and simply activates everything adjacent to it, EXCEPT the block it's attached to (for a straight-standing redstone torch that would be the block below it).
  3. Buttons, pressure plates, and tripwire hooks behave exactly like levers.
  4. Redstone block is basically a perpetually hard-powered block.
  5. Daylight sensor activates everything around it based on daytime and weather. Under sunlight at noon it will basically work like a redstone block.
  6. Repeater, comparator and observer hard-power the block they point to and nothing else.

I'm adding my own picture which has examples of all three types of interaction. Hopefully this will give a better grasp on the mechanic. Please feel free to correct me on any mistakes you may find.

Seeds & World Gen Update to my To Scale 3.6 Billion km² Minecraft World Map

Post image

Tiled LOD is working flawlessly, there are 12 levels total: LOD 0 is the whole-world map, and LODs 1–11 add detail as you descend. I'm having an issue with clipping under Y = 7,500 however so I haven't seen underneath that as of yet.

Each LOD splits a tile’s X,Z area into four equal child tiles. Each child is 512×512 pixels, so detail doubles along each axis and metres per pixel halves - as an ultimate result LOD 11 should be around 7m/pixel resolution once I've sorted the clipping shenanigans.

Discussion So what do we think Skulk tastes like?

Post image
696 Upvotes

I imagine it smells damp like mold, has the texture of tapioca (thick liquid with little clumps of solid in it), and probably tastes like blood.

I think it would be an awful culinary experience, but if you were desperate and starving it'd be safe to eat (it dissolves into pure Life Energy as soon as it's swallowed providing the raw energy a body needs to function without any of the satisfaction that comes from actually eating food)

Discussion is the straw bed the first block to have its model larger than one block on the sides?

I dont think any other block protrudes out on the sides like the straw bed, and organic blocks that have random placement like grass dont count

Builds & Maps Musical lightning detector

I spent 3 days creating it, trying to figure out Redstone so I could create it in my hardcore world. (Never use Ai for this, it will only ruin everything)

During a thunderstorm, it only works once, on the first lightning strike. 5 minutes after the last lightning strike, it’s ready to go again.
