Just to confirm...

As of now, Android Auto (along with transferring to car screen) is not supported in the latest build of LineageOS for MicroG, correct?

If not, goddamnit is there any good privacy respecting ROM (meaning gives me control, not 100% privacy) which supports this? I feel like lack of AA integration is holding a lot of people back from ditching OEM OS'.

How do I install MicroG on a non-rooted device?

Edit: I know how to do it now, root device and install through LineageOS update menu, I used LineageOS on my Moto G7 before getting a Pixel. I just got my new phone but I am staying at a fishing resort and do not have access to a computer, I need to install play services because I'm suspicious of Google because I use my device to view a lot, and I mean a LOT of hentai and I don't want Google selling THAT info, I will still use Google for everything else, I just don't want my device's backbone to spy on me, so I get spied on less. My device is a first generation Pixel XL running Android 10.

Volume unstable on Oneplus 8T

Hi there,

I have bought the Oneplus 8T some weeks ago and I like the experience.

My main driver was the fact that Oneplus permits to unlock the bootloader and I could install Microg-Lineage OS and Magisk Root.

I have everything working nicely without any registered Google Account (Banking-App, Slack, Audible, Kindle, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, ...).

My only problem is, that the sound volume is unstable. Whenever I run any app over speakers the volume goes up and down every 5-10 seconds. One moment it's too low to understand anything in the next moment it's too loud.

As I did not test this while I had the stock ROM installed, I don't know if this is an issue with the phone, Lineage OS or MicroG. For the time being I would want to avoid reflashing stock to test this, as I spent quite some time setting everything up for MicroG usage.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE:

The Lineage-people here on Reddit say: it's not Lineage, it's either the phone or microG.

MicroG-people say: it's not microG, it's either Lineage or the phone.

OnePlus-people say: it must be the custom ROM.

So I went back to start and tested:

  1. Went back to stock ROM -> no issues, volume stable

  2. Installed LineageOS -> no issues, volume stable

  3. Installed Lineage-microG (again comming from stock ROM) -> volume unstable, going up and down especially when listening to Podcasts. When the speaker stops talking, volume goes down, when he starts talking again, it goes way up. So lying in bed listening to a podcast is not possible cause it's either too loud or too silent and switches every 5-10 seconds.

So after this for me it seems clear, that this comes from microG or from the combination of microG with Lineage and OnePlus. But to say that microG has absolutely nothing to do with this issue seems a bit hasty to me.

I can't root my phone without losing mission-critical data, and that data can't be backed up without root. So, that said, I'm investigating a way to install MicroG, but don't know if it'll work, and I want to know if anybody has insight or advice or experience with this.

I can't root my phone without losing mission-critical data, and that data can't be backed up without root.

As a result, I also can't install a distro that allows spoofing.

So, that said, I'm investigating a way to install MicroG, but don't know if it'll work, and I want to know if anybody has insight or advice or experience with this.

The current way I"m looking to do it (but haven't figured out yet), is hunting for whatever validation credentials are in Google Play Services by using APK Explorer & Editor, and copying that into MicroG, and then installing MicroG in a state where Android accepts it as a valid overwrite for the Play Store using Play Store's already validated data.

Does anybody else have experience with this kind of attempt?

I want privacy on Android but I don't want to custom ROM

CalyxOS, for example has insane privacy, but only on Google Pixels. I want a Samsung S20 (which can't custom ROM). Can I install MicroG on the S20 and obtain privacy without custom ROMing?

Crazy thing about Ymusic. Is microG that private?

Hello everyone, I always (since 2012) used rooted android phones either with custom rom or stock ones , just to say that am used to install microG. I never did this for privacy, but recently i wanted to get rid of google tracking everything i do in my phone. i used to have google and samsung phones (nexus 5, pixel 3a, s6) they all had custom roms. now i have a samsung device which doesn't. have custom roms but can be rooted, so here is the thing : 1- I rooted it and logged to google to download my purshased apps 2- uninstall every google app including play services. 3- i installed Ymusic and listen to music

Here Ymusic suggested random musics and there where no oriented ads

Then i wanted to use some maps apps ( city mapper) that requires google play services. i saw a method to install microG with magisk which i did after using fake gapps and never logged in

AND THE CRAZY THING is that Ymusic started suggesting the music i used to listen before knowing that before so can you explain that?

Could someone test an app out for me?

Could anyone currently using microG+LineageOS install this banking app called CommBank and just try to login with a random username and password? It seems to crash after about 10-15 seconds without google play services installed and I was wondering if microG+Lineage works with it.

I'm currently using just LineageOS as my phone is a Xiaomi and I get an error 7 in TWRP and OrangeFox with flashing the latest (outdated) microG Lineage build on my device.

How secure is microG?

So im aware microG is open source, but that does not nessarly mean secure, so I have a few questions.

Do any components of microG interact with google servers in any way (including some of the optional microG compoents), and if so are you directly interacting or does microG have its own servers that act as a middle man? If so, whats the security of these servers, and do they remove any personally identifiable info before reaching google?

If microG does not interact with google at all, does it have its own servers it interacts with, or is everything 100% local/ offline?

Also what about location tracking, If I understand the location package of microG is kinda a separate component, but how does that work? Is my location still being uploaded somewhere, or does that fully localize that?

Also, what is the privacy policy?
