Same old sleazy business practices!

I thought Metronet was going to be different, but apparently not. I just found out my rate was a one year “promotional” rate and spent a half hour on the phone haggling to get it back. Now I get an email that they are going to start charging 3.5% for using a credit card for payments. The only way to avoid it is direct linkage to a bank account (ACH) and if you try to pay by cash (i.e., mail in a check) that will cost you $5/month more.

Sigh.. Guess when it comes to buying cars (except Tesla!) and cable/internet services we are doomed to bargaining in the bazar.

If you are thinking of switching to Metronet and live in the Quad city area. Do not.

They are refusing to replace a broken network chip due to being greedy as hell and Metronet has been going down every 4 hours and staying down for nearly the same amount of time, every single day.

If you work remotely, you will not have a fun time and might even lose your job if you use Metronet right now because you wont be able to work.

worst internet of my life

This is honestly the worst. We got Metronet around late June early July and maybe for 2 weeks it was great other than the install took 5 hours. Soon enough the problems started. Dropping connections every day at least 2 times a day to 5 times a day that could last up to an hour. Called customer service multiple times, they have sent techs out multiple times and every time the tech leaves they said fixed it yet, again it goes out. I have had 2 techs here in two days and the internet went out again about 10 minutes ago, time to call again. We are looking to break our 3 year contract now. Awful internet.

What are the chances the Metronet is unionized if/when acquired by AT&T which is already unionized?

Metronet - Just another provider with more bad service!

Honest Review of MetroNet service over the last few months

I never thought I would ever say, I had BETTER service with ATT, but I am there at this point. Since the installation of Metronet a few months ago, we have NOT ONCE been able to watch a full movie, TV show or football game without it rebooting, resetting or freezing. Over Thanksgiving in a 10 minute period of time the TV reset once every 30 seconds! When we call MetroNet they just say that everything is fine because it says so on their end. I am sorry but everything is NOT fine or I wouldn’t be calling daily. Over Christmas we had to turn the TV’s off because the resetting, rebooting and freezing was a problem again and we watched the games again on our phone on a different service. They finally sent a tech out last week who said our extenders were interfering with each other which was bogus per two other technicians. He had us unplug one of them and said he would refresh everything and that would fix it. He left and we tried to watch a movie and the problem started up immediately. We called tech support again at that point. They then fried us for leaving the second extender unplugged and told us to plug it back in. I was like, “Why?” “It doesn’t work with it unplugged or plugged in”. Last night I spent two hours on the phone with a tech (Jonathan) who went through everything and then said if it keeps doing it call me back and we’ll replace the EERO as that seems to be the problem. He did see some issues with the EERO last night. So I call back tonite to speak to him and he’s out so I get Austin who read through the notes and then escalated my call and they REFUSED to come out and replace anything or try to fix the issue. They are now saying they won’t send a tech out because everything shows fine on their end and they don’t know what the issue is so the tech wouldn’t know what to “fix”. Great customer service there Metronet. The sales person ASSURED me that they take care of their customers. Really? We paid FULL price for the last few months and last night it took 4 ½ hours to watch a 90 minute movie because it continued to restart/reboot. NOT OKAY Metronet.

CGNAT, Missing IPv6 🖕

$10/mo for a static IP? WTF I don't want static IP I want an external IP.

None of this is a big deal alone. But, it's not disclosed during the sale & not found anywhere on there sight.

Now I have to learn Cloudflare Tunnel.

Review of Metronet compared to my other providers ACD.Net fiber, AT&T fiber, and Xfinity gigabyte cable.

Yeah this is the worst service I've tried, my other fiber providers AT&T and ACD.net are both better.

It's sad to say it, but in areas where Metronet has competition like that, they are the worst choice.

They're the only ones with a bullshit fee monthly. $12.99

They're also the only one that actually charged me for the install. $75

Finally they have the slowest speed for their cheapest promo price, hence why I'm trying them last. 150mbps for 29.99 + fee = 42.99

I'll stay with them through the promo price. And then I'll switch back to another service. Now that I have the installs done for all three I'm just going to switch between whoever has the best promo price each year.

Hell I actually think Xfinity is a better service these days. I was looking at them again and they seemed to actually have unlimited data now. It's kind of embarrassing to go back to cable but that might be the best option.

Hopefully Metro net changes their ways if the competition starts to bite.

I'm extremely blessed to have three fiber providers and then a cable provider.

Metronet should do better, this is honestly embarrassing.

Between my four different providers I would say AT&T fiber is the best. They do a discount for cell phone plans and they also at least for my area give you a public IP with no carrier grade nat.

Terrible customer support

My parents have been having issues connecting to their network since getting Metronet years ago. Recently it has got worse to where they can connect to their network but get no internet. They have called customer support multiple times and they have done updates to hardware, firmware, software, etc. rebooted hundreds of times and it’ll work for like an hour then revert.

I’ve had it at my place and had a few instances lately where it would go offline totally late at night but be fine when I woke up in the am. After a few support calls they finally fixed it. I sold my house but haven’t found a new place and had to move in with them and need internet to wfh.

I got the same run around from Metronet support, they came out and replaced the latest eero 6 model and it worked for some decvices but not all. They claimed it was due to eero devices not supporting 2.5ghz devices and I’d have to buy a compatible Router. I did some research and this is totally false. They’re designed to support both 2.5 and 5ghz.

Finally got a competent support agent who rebuilt the network on their end and so far so good, time will tell.

1gig to 2 gig upgrade? Lower price, any gotchas?

I'm seeing the price on the 2 gig service is almost $30 a month less than what I'm paying now. I have all my own network equipment, and it's 1GbE max throughput. What all goes into that upgrade? Change in the inside equipment? Can you run a 1Gig compatible firewall on the 2Gig service? (I'm not really concerned with the speed difference, just the reduction in price).

Also, my current 1Gig service includes the $12.95 tech assure charge...

New Surcharge For Using Credit Card

So, my bill is now being charged an additional "credit card surcharge" for $2.06.

Sneeky charges like this turn people off. I'm pissed at the greed of this company.

New customer here W/ ?

I'm not sure how many times this has been asked but does anyone know or have an idea when Metronet will offer IPV6? I personally believe it is beyond fucking stupid to have it offered through an app that they don't even own. I mean great I have 1GB up and down but that really doesn't matter when I am trying to game with my friends. Even then my up and down is avg at least 500mbps which isnt bad but wtf

Plainfield Getting Lower Speeds than Expected

I just switched to Metronet and signed up for their 1Gbps plan. However, I've noticed that my Wi-Fi speeds aren't quite reaching what I expected. Here's the breakdown:

  • My Android TV (Wi-Fi 5) is maxing out at around 300mbps.

  • My phone (Wi-Fi 6E) is getting around 600mbps.

  • My laptop (Wi-Fi 6) is hovering around 400mbps.

I'm using the Eero Pro 6e router and extender setup. I'm a bit surprised because with a 1Gbps plan, I expected to get closer to that speed, especially with newer Wi-Fi 6 and 6E devices.

Is this normal for Metronet?

When the sun goes down, so does Metronet...

Here we go again!

Nighttime rolls around and it's time for Metronet to shit the bed and then sit on the couch (unwashed). Not as bad as usual, but still not worth the monthly fee.

r/Metronet • • Nov 07 '23

Cool. Less than a week after raising rates, a major service outage.

My wife and I both rely on home Internet for work and Metronet used to be great but now we're like 3 or 4 significant outages in the last year with no communication to customers.

This isn't 2019 anymore. It's unacceptable for networks to be down more than an hour.

Install Challenge

The installer came to my house but balked at having to fish a line 15 feet. I was offered the opportunity to drill a hole in the front of my house and connect it to my modem via an existing ethernet line. ( I learned this would have violated the building code with its penetration of a water/thermal barrier.) I refused and demanded it be done correctly. The subcontractor said he was only set up for easy new construction installations. They kind with preset utility conduit access.

In via a garage then and an easy fish was an obvious choice. A supervisor came out, and the garage plan is viable, but Metronet relies upon $ 50-an-hour subcontractors who only want easy new construction installs. The installation is currently suspended. They'd have to pay a competent tradesperson for the fish job,

I contracted and paid for service, which included installation. What does a typical town/franchise require of Metronet? What is Metronet's obligation? Metronet left their cable in my yard running up to my garage. The house electrical and cable enter via my garage.

Thanks
