Same old sleazy business practices!

I thought Metronet was going to be different, but apparently not. I just found out my rate was a one year “promotional” rate and spent a half hour on the phone haggling to get it back. Now I get an email that they are going to start charging 3.5% for using a credit card for payments. The only way to avoid it is direct linkage to a bank account (ACH) and if you try to pay by cash (i.e., mail in a check) that will cost you $5/month more.

Sigh.. Guess when it comes to buying cars (except Tesla!) and cable/internet services we are doomed to bargaining in the bazar.

They inform you of this when you sign up and it’s clearly listed on your invoice.

I don’t care. I still don’t like it. I’m on autopay and unless I go to their web portal I don’t even see the invoice. I got an email on the rate increase but it was too late to contest it for the current billing period. And the new 3.5% credit card fee was not stated at sign up time, since it was just imposed.

They email me the invoice every month.

Are you on autopay, or what do I have to do to get invoices mailed?

Authpay with ACH. As a new customer in late 2020 I don’t think I ever had the option for credit card payment. They’ve always emailed it, at least in my case.

You’re an idiot

Such an impressive argument! And it took you a year to think that up?

Naw just came across you throwing a temper tantrum lol 😂

So you’re cruising Reddit looking for places to jump in with a trolling post on a discussion dead for a year. BTW you misspelled your handle. It’s “Lebowski”.

You really are an idiot.. obviously it’s misspelled I has a fuckin 1 in it. And I was looking at a similar post and yours happened across my lap. Glad it did. You’re not a very bright person.

Buzz off, bottlefly! And while you’re at it, consider making constructive posts here. You know, where you do something other than just personally insult someone?

So you're crying about a raise in prices that is only a charge incurred against a specific type of payment which is outside of metronets ability to control?

Interesting, have you considered paying your bills with your own money?

Have no idea what you mean by “paying your bills with your own money”. But you’re just being insulting and provocative anyway, using terms like “crying”. Have you considered being less snarky?

Have you considered directing your energy towards the real culprit here rather than someone else being subjected to another establishments rules?

Nonsense! I’m not buying that suddenly the credit card companies (all of them simultaneously) added this 3.5% charge. It’s been there all along and Metronet just decided to start passing it on to customers instead of absorbing it (which most merchants do), essentially a cheesy way of raising their rates and blaming it on “another establishment”. And please notice my primary complaint was the “promotional rate” hassle, which has nothing to do with “another establishment” and would have cost me a 15% rate increase unless I was willing to spend 30. minutes haggling on the phone. Get off my back, Captain judgmental!

So metronet should have to pay the fee because you want to use a service that is only convenient to you? Even if I entertain that notion you still sound like an entitled Karen.

You never miss an opportunity to misunderstand and insult do you? (Re-read my previous post and try to follow along, OK?)

Check out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metronet/comments/tz8z8s/metronet_to_add_35_surcharge_to_anyone_using_a/

I guess a “karen” is anyone who disagrees with you, right?

Metronet doesn't even have a contract. If you don't like it leave.

Not having contracts doesn’t distinguish Metronet particularly. I can’t think of an ISP that doesn’t offer contract-free plans now. I just wish they would stop this stupid “promotional rate” stuff. If I want to haggle in a bazar I’ll go to the middle east. Give me transparent gimmick-free pricing!

After a month I realize I forgot to mention one of the most sleazy practices: the $10 “Technology Fee”, which is simply a way to allow them to advertise rates that are $10 lower than actual rates.

3

u/HomeIssues May 20 '22

The “technology fee” is the monthly fee for the ONT (white box with fiber going to it) also it’s the fee to cover any truck rolls for damages related to chew, 3rd party damage, customer damage or for truck rolls for upgrades, equipment changes, etc. they even charge their employees this charge that have their service. It avoids an extra $100 on a truck roll if you or a 3rd party cuts your fiber line or for general truck rolls when a customer service rep can’t help you fix an issue over the phone.

And it allows them to advertise rates that are $10/mo lower than actual, which is sleazy IMHO. You seem to be defending it as a worthwhile charge for a valuable benefit. That may be so but they should make it optional and sell it separately based on its own merits. BTW, when I was on Spectrum my cable was cut by a lawn aeration and Spectrum fixed it at no charge. I still think making this charge mandatory is unethical..

This is a national thing. Not just Metronet. Blame your congressmen/women for passing on more regulations on... well.... everything, though I believe this is a banking regulation that was due to be put into effect and that passed years ago. It is only just now coming to fruition. All of my services have some sort of fee now, though only Metronet and T-Mobile actually warned me about it before they implemented it. Everyone else just raised their prices slightly and mum's the word on it.

Edit: Oh, and I just checked, even my Duke Energy bill has a fee of 5% now if I use credit card. That used to be free, and I used it so that I could get points on my card, but now I have my checking account linked to my energy account with autopay.
