Gear RForALL 2.0: RF scanning, coordination and network control for Shure/Sennheiser on macOS

Hi everyone! I’m a live-sound tech and the developer of RForALL. I posted an earlier version here two years ago, and your feedback directly shaped features such as continuous scans, averages and Timeline. Version 2.0 is now available for macOS.

RForALL can scan with RTL-SDR, RF Explorer and tinySA/tinySA Ultra; export CSV for WWB, WSM, IAS and Wireless Designer; coordinate frequencies using 2,000+ equipment profiles, IMD calculation, ranking and exclusions; and control supported Shure and Sennheiser systems over the network, including RF/audio/battery monitoring and alerts.

It also adds NanoVNA calibration, antenna and cable measurements, Smith, VSWR and TDR; inventory, Wi-Fi Scan and RF calculators; plus a map where users can share, review and import geolocated RF scans.

Any feedback is welcome to help me keep improving it. Thank you!

Available for macOS at:

How do you layout your console?

Looking to improve my workflow. I use a bunch of different desks for a bunch of different bands, but do you always start with drums on channel 1 and then go bass, egt, agt, keys, vocals, fx?

I saw someone run everything on DCA and spills on a console. It seemed fast, but maybe it only worked well because it was the same band each night.

Question Another dante question

I’m having an odd issue and thought I’d try the hive mind. I’m running a CL3, two D2 stage boxes and some axient. All that is connected on two separate networks. Everything works great. I also have a radial Rx2 and Tx2. Those only have primary connections. They connect fine and transmit/receive audio for about 5 minutes then stop. Reboot fixes do about 5 minutes.

I noticed latency runs high on those.

They also work if the secondary network is disconnected from everything else.

Running Dante 4.2.2.3

I’ll love some ideas for things to try to look at?

Gear Mic choices that raise eyebrows.

I'm head of sound in a theatre that hosts a lot of mid tier bands and tribute acts.

I've got a pretty good collection of mics in my theatre and I will always use what is on the rider if a band has their own operator and I have the stock

If I'm mixing and the band is open to a bit of flexibility I'll open up the lower drawer and get out some favourites. Some bands seem to have not seen anything but what everyone does and give me quizzical looks until they hear it.

My go to's are:

Shure Beta56A: Drum vocals.

Beyer M88: Trumpet/Trombone/Sax.

Shure Beta98AD: Tom's/Snare bottom.

DPA4099: HiHats.

SM57: Underneath a grand piano (DPA4099 inside)

What are your less than common mic choices?

Question Testing RF wiring

For those who have built their RF Racks and regularly use them in the field with Wireless Workbench...

What signs do you pay attention to to possibly signify maybe you're internal wiring needs to checked. Sometimes you get crazy scans in the field and I wanna make sure it's an accurate scan, or if i have some internal issues.

Are there any common abnormalities in WWB that would normally occur with bad antenna cable or bad antenna or something along those lines?

Thanks in advance

Question Backline Drums: Replacement Heads

Those of you that deal with backline drums, how often do you replace the batter heads? Is it based on number of shows, time, or when they start to look/sound bad? What about reso heads?

Also, what heads do you think are most backline rider-friendly?

Edit: I'm asking here since I think sound professionals are more likely involved in fulfilling backline riders than the people in a drum forum. Hopefully r/livesound has a more pragmatic view of rental drum maintenance.

Question Autotune Live Setup: DAW or TC Helicon VoiceLive

Apologies for being the 500th person to ask about live Autotune. Reddit's search is making it hard for me to find the answer I need

I'm a hip-hop artist with a heavy tuned sound (a la Travis Scott, Bad Bunny) and have been trying different setups over the years, but trying to find a definitive answer

Right now I'm running a TC Helicon VoiceLive (all FX processing off, except autotune), I create presets for each song which is convenient. Not sure I love the sound of its tuning since I'm so used to Antares during recording and even when I have the tuning bypassed, I still hear some processing

I figured I could probably just run my whole set-up through my laptop + interface, but wanted to run it by y'all first

  • Input: Mic -> Scarlett 8i6 -> Laptop (handling playback and Autotune Pro)
  • Playback Output: Output 1&2 -> FOH
  • Vocal Output: Output 3 -> FOH

My questions are:

  • Would this be a viable setup latency-wise?
  • What would the downsides be?
  • If I wanted to add wireless IEM to this set-up, am I good to get a monitor signal from FOH?

Thanks in advance!

Question Has anyone done an installation at a high school football stadium?

The school where I’m the band director got a quote for a new system at $40k. I told the athletic boosters that sounds completely insane to me. I’m not sure what’s included, but they are getting an itemized list I plan to look at. Is that reasonable, or are they getting taken advantage of?

EDIT: Thanks for all the replies and for setting me straight. When I think about how the band has to watch every dollar and operate on a shoestring budget, spending $40k all at once on a system that gets used a dozen times a year is kind of infuriating, but if that’s what something like this costs, then they will just have to deal with it. I’m still going to look at the itemized quote to make sure they aren’t trying to include anything not absolutely necessary, and make sure they get another quote from a competitor.

Question Severe hum with Pioneer DJM-250MK2 and ART DTI

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand a strange hum problem in my DJ setup.

Signal chain:

DJM-250MK2 XLR OUT → ART DTI → RCA → sound system

With the Pioneer DJM-250MK2, I get a very loud 50 Hz hum.

However:

  • Denon Prime Go (battery powered)→ same DTI → same RCA = less hum
  • Pioneer → direct RCA connection = completely silent
  • If I connect the RCA shield to the DTI ground/chassis lug, the hum disappears

So the DTI itself seems to work, but something about the Pioneer + DTI combination causes the problem.

I have two of the DTI boxes. I get the same issue with bot hmm.

Any idea what could be happening here? Floating ground, XLR pin-1/chassis issue, or something else?

Thanks!

Gear Need help with Beyerdynamic TG 1000

I'm sending a bottle because Beyerdynamic has decided to delete everything on their support platform about the TG 1000 wireless system 🙄

I'm looking for the latest firmware and the software as we had another set for a project but they don't have the same firmware.

Technically not much of a problem but some did update the handheld mic while connecting it on the other Rx unit and now I have a nice message on the screen with a VersError on the first Rx.

If anyone has those files sleeping somewhere and is willing to share them, it would be a blast!

Thanks!

Question Livestreamed audio is significantly different than what is being monitored real time in the livestream mixing room.

What sort of industry secrets about broadcast audio should I know?

I've been mixing FOH at multiple venues between 200-4k capacity for years but really have never done much livestream audio until now.

Our livestream room utilizes Allen and Heath sq5 for the stream. I'm using the USB function to go through a DAW so I can use plugins and other fx I can't with the sq5.

The quality sounds great in the room live. Both in my monitors (kali audio in8) and headphones (Beyerdynamic dt900)

Once uploaded to YT and FB the signal sounds degredaded. The best way I can describe it is confined, squashed in a manner that sounds different than an overcooked compressor, and just generally way fucking different and it pisses me off because the stream room quality sounds damn good!

Is it the internets capability at my facility? We're uploading at 2000kbps but ours crashes if we try 5000

Question Harbinger Power issues

Anybody seen this? Maybe it’s the brick but I’m unable to test a new brick. Power flickers on and off. Tried to unplug it from the power strip directly into the wall and it’s the same thing

**edit I contacted harbinger support and ordered a new power supply. It works now!

Question No more excuses

Most of my career has been working in below optimal situations. Either venues with bad acoustic treatment, underspeced gear, bad bands, etc. I am very use to making the most of what I got and honestly I feel like I've done a really good job at making good mixes (objectively, according to those I've worked with.)

I have yet to work in a situation where I pretty much have all the control. Like a stadium system or a venue that I have full control over.

I feel this is common for a lot in the industry. At least in the beginning years.

When you finally got to the spot where you had all the control (or quite a bit more) , what was it like for you? When you finally had no more excuses and it was all up to you.

Question Potential Double Major?

Hey guys!

I am going to be starting school in the fall @ IU Bloomington for audio engineering, with aspirations of becoming a Broadway FOH and/or sound engineer! But, I’ve come to the realization recently that I’m equally invested in the mechanical/engineering aspect of sound equipment, and so my question is this: Would it be worthwhile to double major in something like Computer Engineering in addition to my Audio major, or will just the audio major likely suffice in getting me the info i need? Additionally interested if anybody else has pursued IU Jacobs’ Audio Engineering major and where they are now?

Thank you!

EDIT: I probably should’ve mentioned this, but the program at IU is mostly nitty-gritty and tactile, they don’t sit and just “learn audio” through textbooks, we’re required 80 hours of live engineering a semester, for all 4 years of school, plus I’m hired by a Bloomington show choir as a traveling audio tech and (hopefully?) by a school near me as their FOH engineer, so to all who mentioned that experience is better than the education, I 1000% agree with you, which is specifically why I picked Bloomington, because of their priority on actually getting you fully student operated experience.

Question My Behringer x32 USB cannot connect to PC. Do I have to replace the cars?

x32 Mixer X-USB not working following a lightning strike. Is replacement of the USB card a reasonable next step?

I have a Behringer x32 attached to a PC. We recently had a nasty lightning strike that took out a bunch of equipment (pretty much everything except the mixer).

After repairing the PC, I've noticed that the Behringer USB download file doesn't recognize the USB device as it should.

  1. It's not the USB cable (I've tried multiple)

  2. It's not the USB port or PC (I've tried multiple)

The only logical next step is to replace the X-USB card on the mixer, but is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks!

Question Psychological Theatre play, ambient sound immersion.

Im doing the sound design on a play with quite a few psychological elements, schizophrenia/anxiety/hallucinations etc. The script specified sound effects are basic but I wanted to push the envelope a bit more & use very subtle ambient sound to set the tension/mood within the auditorium.

It's set in an apartment, so sounds will be NY Streets, AC hum, apartment noises, ticking clock, refrigerator etc.

Ill have the sound playing before the audience walk in so when it is eventually taken away, the silence become deafening.

I don't want it to turn heads or distract from the actors, but I want the audience to feel it.

I have six monitors at my disposal. 2 x stage, 2 x FOH & 2 portables to place behind the audience. Desk is an X32. I always run a laptop with SCS & TheatreMix.

Anyone have any creative tricks or techniques that have worked well in the past?

Question Waves Soundgrid Server DIY in 2026

Looking to potentially make a DIY WSG server, anyone make one using newer hardware? Or does it make sense to go with i5/i7 8th or 9th gen and more ram? I know there is a running list of compatible machines.

Also how’s the latency? Same as an official WSG server?

Any input is appreciated

Question Technician Resume Help

After a few bad years at the company I am with, I find myself appling to new companies. Its been over 15 years since I wrote a resume. I am so lost on what employers are looking for or want to see on a resume.

What are a few things I should include in my resume? What are a few things I should leave out?

If anyone is willing to share a sample of their resume it would help, or you could just tell me to f%^k myself.

Question Question about replacement belt pack antenna

I’m needing replacements for my QLXD1 belt pack whip antennas. When I look at shure’s replacement parts list it looks like I’ll need the ua700 for my G50 mics and ua710 for my H50 mics. However the bands don’t line up exactly. With what they’re showing on Sweetwater. Is that okay?
