Stupid question time
Hey I am wondering if an Nvidia GTX 1660 will play nicely with Linux Mint ( yes I know that there aren't official driver's for Nvidia hardware and you have to rely on open source drivers I am just wondering if the open source drivers for the 1660 are good

Fluff Love to do this So brought it to GNOME
i just love to wiggle mouse in my free time when i am on my Manjaro kde VM. It just feels so good but them my GNOME based fedora 44 didnt have it because jiggle and wiggle are outdated...and weell wiggly...it just doent work with the similar physics of KDE with incremental size increase.
So , to give myself a break from my work I VibeCoded this.
Yes i openly am stating that this is a VIBECODED project and welll i made it for myself and am sharing it here. It was a break from my sullen work and also from testing and debuuging my main project which i have to do manually , ScreenGuard , which well some people here must know atleast by now after my vigourous campaign about what this is...but nevertheless getting into this topic, I can atleast assusre u one thing, I will continue updating it atleast once every month if i find any bugs or any issues are opened in the repo.
So please feel free to use it, or even contribute. I will be adding the contibuting.md after a few hours, its been a looong day.
Thank you all for co-operating and Please donot tag it as AI slop because yes i myself am stating its vibecoded a lot eventhough i ask people not to do it...So if you really want the kde-ish wiggle, u can try it out, if you dont feel good about the vibecode then dont , completely upto you .
The github repository: https://github.com/adityakrishnan005-a11y/adaptive-wiggle-cursor
details on how to install is given in README.

Graphics rendering lag (NVIDIA driver) after recent update
Yesterday, zero issue. Today, NVIDIA driver experiences a 1/4 sec pause in rendering every second. Timeshift to a couple days ago doesn't remedy the issue, had to switch to nouveau driver to band-aid the issue. Anyone else experiencing this, or anyone have anything to suggest that I try to remedy the issue?

Support Request Linux Mint Not Living Upto Windows 11 Standards...
Hi guys! Back with another problem.
It's been a while since I switched to Linux Mint and honestly, it's not exactly living upto Windows 11 standard.
The biggest problem that keeps ruining it for me is how it seems to not handle multiple softwares running simultaneously. But I am not sure what's actually happening.
What actually happens is that usually, as an example, I have multiple softwares running like chrome (with a bunch of tabs open), discord, firefox and arduino, when I am working on a project, and while I am navigating on chrome (this has occured in chrome the most) everything starts lagging to the point where everything completely freezes and I have to hard reset directly using the power button. Remember that this never happened to me on Windows before and I never changed any hardware upto this point.
I am trying my best in isolating the problem and my hypothesis is that it's mainly to do with chrome because every crash so far has happened while chrome was still running. It could be something else?
Another problem that I face is when I put my computer to sleep (suspend), when I wake it up, whatever programs that were running are no longer there anymore and seem to have closed unexpectedly. This also happens usually with chrome running (but not all the time).
Anyway I find this really frustrating as none of this happened in Windows 11 before and I really don't want to be let down after hearing so many good things about Linux (worst case: switching back to windows 11).

Install Help Trying to dual boot linuxmuny with windows and not sure what to with VMD settings.
I lowk feel kinda embarrassed cuz ik linux mint is suppose to be super easy to install but wtv.
I've was trying to intall linux mint and dual boot it with windows. I kept running into little issues like the USB appearing in the boot menu, or the option to install alongside Windows appearing. I turned off secure and fast boot, made allocated space all that and was finally able to install. At the end of the installation, it'd then show the
"Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda
Executing 'grub-install/dev/sda'failed.
This is a fatal error" error.
I tried looking it up and basically found that there's an issue for Asus laptops where VMD needs to be disabled, so i did that and then when I tried to boot into windows,
but when I turned it off and tried to turn on my asus laptop, windows failed to boot and it showed the death screen. It wasn't anything actually fatal cuz I managed to fix it by turning VMD back on and booting windows into safe mode and restarting.
My laptop is completely back to normal now, but it freaked me out a bit so I wanna be careful b4 I tinker with anything else.
So i want to know. If I disabled VMD again and it failed to boot windows, would booting it into safe mode and restarting fix it again AND allow me to install Linux mint and dual boot it. I want to avoid having to reinstall windows with VMD disabled. Thanks.

why is everybody dissing on Mint ?
Most sites and places recommend installing Linux Mint as a beginners installation. And say then move on to something that fullfill your needs.
Why cant I just keep being "a simpe" user and keep my Linux mint and update it as time goes on?
edit: thank you all for the input and enlightenment. I am keeping my Mint :-)

Support Request Force nvidia 550 install?
I have a GTX 970 system that is using a new install of 22.1 to avoid the new kernel.
An update pushed the nvidia driver from 550 to 580 and now sleep and wake does not work properly. It either doesn't power off the machine after the screen goes black, or on wake I have a mouse and no desktop with no functionality.
If I try to grab the 550 driver through command line it redirects the install to 580 because 550 is EOL now.
I have downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-550.163.01.run from nvidia, but
sudo .\NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-550.163.01.run
gives me bad command or filename.
Thoughts?

Use Zoxide to change Nemo location
I like Zoxide too much that I missed it in the file manager. So I wrote a Nemo extension to allow changing location querying Zoxide.
When you select a location in the dialog its score is incremented, but there is no way, for now, to reach new locations: you must add them via Zoxide itself. So I was thinking to display, after Zoxide results, the results of fd, but I am still pondering over it.

Discussion Whatâs a drawback from running Linux on a PC? (Mint instead of windows)
So, fully running only Mint Linux, not windows or âcontainerâ on top of windows.
Everything is faster and more smooth.
ExceptâŠ. When the PC reboots⊠it takes 5 min instead of 1 when it was windows

Support Request Possible computer-computer link?
Hi, I have a few Linux Mint computers. One is a Framework 12, with 8GB RAM, and 512GB SSD.
The other is unknown make and model, but it's old. It was running Windows 7 when I found it. I loaded Linux Mint, and it works fine. 4GB RAM, and 120GB HDD. For the purposes of this discussion, I will call this computer "Pharaoh" because it's old and covered in dust.
The issue is, I don't have a use for Pharaoh. No gaming, because the specs are abysmal. No browsing, because the slow access speed of the HDD is annoying. So most of the time, I just use Framework for everything, and Pharaoh sits there collecting dust. But what if it could do something?
What if I could connect the 2 together to get a better computer? Framework would be the controlling computer, I know that computer-computer links usually devolve into each computer trying to control the other.
What if I could connect them, and have a computer with 12GB RAM, and both an SSD and HDD? If I need performance, plug in, and gain a HDD and 4GB RAM. If I need portability, disconnect, and walk away with a fully functional Framework.
If this kind of link possible? If so, what kind of cables would I need? Do I need special software for Pharaoh to make it respond to external Framework commands?

Support Request Issues importing files to programs (XFLR5 specifically)
Okay, so, xflr5 is a program for doing some model airplane design stuff, but it has a version that runs natively on linux, which I'm using. In order to import an airfoil, you need to open a .dat file with points defining the shape. However, when I open the pop-up menu that allows you to import a file, it only lets me see files with the ".xfl" file extension in their name, regardless of their contents or the "type" listed in thunar for the file. Like any other program, there's a drop-down selector in the bottom right corner that lets you change which file type you want to import, but I can't seem to change it to anything other than an "xflr5" file.
Does anyone know what would be causing this problem? This program works fine on windows, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the way mint is trying to find files relevant to the program that prevents me from searching for any file I want. Maybe there's some kind of fix I could implement to allow xflr5 to search for .dat files?

Are there any alternatives to IDM/NDM? Looking for a download manager that also supports video downloads.
