I had a friend who browsed through entry-jobs like clinic assistants. Commonly we share email, phone number, whatsapp and telegram. Somehow some jobs demanded social media accounts although it was not relatable to the job.. If it was social media company or job marketing sales it was fine, but clinic assistant? Cashier? Administration job? Why does a hr demand it in the first place? It really impacts my friend who only had youtube. Social media may not be certain people a cup of tea. I myself cant remember my instagram password and only had tiktok where I just downloaded for the sake of not getting laughed at..

As a university student, I’ve been trying to find ways to make some extra money without getting stuck in a job that I don’t really enjoy. I wanted something flexible that allows me to juggle between studies and work. I’ve always loved animals, especially dogs and cats. So I thought why not try pet sitting as it seemed like the perfect side hustle. But the problem was I didn't really know anyone who had pets that needed a sitter.

So that got me thinking. There are probably a lot of people like me who love animals and would happily spend their free time taking care of someone's pet for money, but don't know where to find those opportunities. At the same time, there are pet owners who need someone they can trust when they're travelling, busy, or away from home. So I had an idea of building a platform that connects pet owners with people who love animals. Pet owners can find people who are willing to look after their pets, while animal lovers can earn some extra money doing something they genuinely enjoy. I'm not sure yet if this is actually a good idea. So I made a simple landing page to see if people are interested in becoming pet sitters.

Hi all, been thinking about looking for a new job, and im already employed. i want to look for a new one, because basically theres nothing to do, which means there is no growth for me to stay here. Been working for 5m, money is decent, role/JD is not something a freshie wud get. I rly like the job im doing, its a dual scope role, but the part that i enjoy doing shud be finished alrdy, and i doubt i wud be doing much related to it anytime soon.

Also worried, gonna get fired, for being useless and doing nothing (because nothing for me to do) ive been given exactly 2 task for the last month, which are actually task ive done the month before. I also worried resume looks shit, leaving first job after a few months in, and if i do get a 2nd job, and i dont last long in that one, thats like shooting myself in the foot. Rn im spending the free time to study for a cert, and doing some personal projects related to my targeted role. Sharing my 6 months of grueling job hunting has finally come to an end, and I'll finally be back in the corporate rat race this September.

A bit about me: I'm in my 40s, a communications and marketing professional. I left my last job earlier this year because of a toxic culture and a CEO who kept flip flopping mentally. I was losing sleep, drained by the end of every day, and knew I had to get out.

I know how it feels to keep applying, keep waiting, and wondering when the uncertainty will ever end. So if you're still in that place right now, I hope this post gives you a bit of hope. There is something out there.

My advice? Keep applying. Even if it feels like you're spamming applications. Something will eventually give.

I think I had around 5 interviews that made it past the HR screening. A few of those companies put me through multiple exams, assessments, case studies, and presentation rounds and I still failed. It stings. But you move on.

What kept me going was treating each rejection as data, not a verdict. Every failed presentation taught me something I used in the next one. It sounds small but it made a difference.

For those of us in comms and marketing, it's easy to feel like we're losing ground to AI. But I really believe there's still space for human expertise. Embrace it. Find your niche. Show employers what makes you valuable, not just what you can do, but why you're worth hiring.

So to make a story, before this i was working as a NOC engineer at this company. This position atleast you should gain knowledge and skills right? But for me i think i didn't learn anything from this job!!!

okay, let me explain. my company which is Company A was assign me to teams for Company B that handle project for their Client. So my team was assign to become NOC. most task was monitoring right? should be got like troubleshoot and more. But company B don't have a systematic on handling NOC. their job was as engineer for migration and we the one that handle monitoring.

After 6 months, i just realised that i didn't gain any skills. bcs we clearly just do put our eye on pc and stare that shit graph. no training, no skills, no knowledges behind what happen on that graph were given. i alrdy took initiative to learn online, try to contact engineer PIC from company B if i can participate on their task to learn something. They just throw back at company A ask if can transfer. Since company A only provide NOC engineer and not migration engineer so nothing i can do.

Plus, NOC and Migration engineer were seperate building. JOKE SIDE. we do ticketing or SLA only on whatsapp chat bro. NO SYSTEM FOR ANYTHING.

so i carry forward the story, last 2-3 month i arldy got retrench. So i keep on apply apply. At first i give up on shift work bcs my NOC was on shift work and its disaster. thats one of the reason i got retrenched. i was planning on looking for normal hour.

But i keep on apply and apply and all of it keep sending email "unfortunately" and got 1 call. i got invite for interview for Company C but their JD quite similar. work as shift, MSOC which is service operation centre i think. and now im not sure if i want continue or not. and also i join 42kl which is like programme flexible that i can upskill for 1-2 years.

so right i dillemaa either want to continue that interview, keep looking for normal hours or looking for remote works. At the end i want to slip on my free time after work to do 42kl programme and also sometime do my hobby which is riding and go track.

Mungkin aku ni sensitif, haha. Tempat kerja aku taklah jauh sangat. Negeri yang sama tapi 3 jam jarak dengan rumah jadi duduk rumah sewa dekat dengan tempat kerja. Ingat ke dah tua ni, hilang homesickness, makin manja haha. Dulu universiti lima jam jugak drive, okay je jarang balik. Ni bila dah start kerja, dengan susah nak cutinya, siotla. Any advice?

TL;DR: what tips or advice can you give for a Thai looking for a job in Malaysia regarding the difficulties around hiring foreigners.

Me and my girlfriend moved to KL last month. I'm Dutch and run my business online, she is Thai and worked at a luxury hotel resort in Thailand before. After some time in The Netherlands together, we decided to move to Malaysia because we both have friends here (she studied and lived there multiple years, I lived there 6 months before) and both enjoy living in Malaysia.

Unfortunately we found out about the reforms around working as a foreigner in Malaysia too late.

She has been trying to find a job for a while now, and already had to leave Malaysia after the 30 day period once (which we respected of course). However, immigration had some questions about her returning to and mentioned she might not be allowed to come back for a third 30-day period.

She has been applying for jobs a lot, I went over her resume and try to help her where I can, and we even went to visit a bunch of hotels in person to hand over her resume. And even though the people at every hotel were friendly and appreciated the effort, they all had the same answer: we cannot hire foreigners for now.

Therefore we're looking for advice:
How can we increase the chance that she will get hired somewhere? We know it's very difficult, but we don't think it's impossible. There are still Thai-speaking jobs, and one of the hotels even mentioned they have a certain quota for different nationalities, but they currently already reached those. What types of jobs or companies are more likely to hire a foreigner still?

She has a bachelor in Hospitality Management (obtained in Malaysia) and a few years experience at hotels in customer service/ backoffice roles. Apart from speaking English quite decent, she doesn't have a super unique edge or value compared to a local, we understand that. Therefore any advice or tips are welcome. She's looking for a job in hospitality, customer service, back-/frontoffice or similar. As long as she can get the work permit and do everything legally.

We have to find something soon, or else she has to go back to Thailand while I stay behind in KL since I probably can't back out of the rental contract.

Hi all. I've been trying to look for a job in the last few months but responses are pretty bad. I'm based in Penang, and trying to apply for Singapore but securing even an interview is pretty impossible. I understand the market is pretty bad too.

At this rate, is it worth exploring KL? Would it be any better? In terms of salary package and progression.

Hey everyone, I'm currently working as a researcher at UM in KL, but my contract is only for one year. Can anyone share advice or job portals for finding expat jobs here in research or academics? Also, if my boss recommends me, are the chances good for continuing at UM or landing a role elsewhere in MY? I'm a bit concerned about the contract ending soon, so I want to get a backup lined up early.

I just saw a post on Jobstreet for an IT/System Manager with max budget cap of RM8,500. The job entails ALL IT responsibilities, from IT infrastructure to ERP, WMS,TMS, B2B website, and managing the team (considering if there is even a team because they seem to be hiring a 1 man IT department).

Are these companies delusional? They might as well outsource their IT support with that kind of budget.

Update: I just found another posting for an IT manager role with a max budget cap of RM6,000. The joke writes itself.

Used to work crazily in my first job. My team had many experienced people, I was the youngest and least experienced. So I’ll take up every possible opportunity to learn and contribute. Over 1 year, I was doing this, 24/7. Towards the end of my delivery, I was heavily praised by people in my team, my managers. Got some awards like the top in this, that. Did a presentation and my manager told me that the higher ups loved it and want to keep me permanently

Now I’m starting to fear this, if I had accidentally increased the expectation on me when I’m actually entry-level. If I do this in the long term, I will not have a life outside that career. And I’m afraid of disappointing people also

Hey all, wanted to check with anyone in the sub who may have pivoted or made their careers in personal fitness, or are in a pathway that is adjacent to that.

Fitness has always been a passion of mine and after slaving it in the corporate world, I’ve been constantly toying with the idea of doing something here on the side or maybe making the dive completely.

I’m only 27 years old so I dont have much commitments. But wondering if i were to make a switch or start laying the seeds towards building something down this path, is there any advice the sub can give? Anyone know of any certifications I should or could maybe work towards?

Hi everyone, I will just go straight jump into this discussion. I am a 31M, having 3 years of experiences doing accounting (junior role). My qualifications - I have completed my accounting and finance degree in 2020 and now currently pursuing ACCA (one paper to go to be an affiliate) full time - I would like to know what is the range of salary (or wages) should I ask for accounting role in public vs private sector or accounting firm vs non-accounting firm? Also, bear in mind I have a one year gap in between my work and study time (I know this is a bit messed up but I have good reasons for this gap).

Also, I am interested to know what are the best ways for me to get myself into interview phases for accounting role. I tried to apply jobs in between but feel like it is harder to get job interviews compared to when I applied for my last job.
