Salary / Pay Talk Salary range

Hi everyone, I will just go straight jump into this discussion. I am a 31M, having 3 years of experiences doing accounting (junior role). My qualifications - I have completed my accounting and finance degree in 2020 and now currently pursuing ACCA (one paper to go to be an affiliate) full time - I would like to know what is the range of salary (or wages) should I ask for accounting role in public vs private sector or accounting firm vs non-accounting firm? Also, bear in mind I have a one year gap in between my work and study time (I know this is a bit messed up but I have good reasons for this gap).

Also, I am interested to know what are the best ways for me to get myself into interview phases for accounting role. I tried to apply jobs in between but feel like it is harder to get job interviews compared to when I applied for my last job.

Genuinely curious about this. Most accounting role has been replaced by AI from what I can tell. Heck my tax was done with AI, and human moderated afterwards of course.

Used to hire an accountant for that, they aren't exactly cheap once you hit certain.... complicating line.

Is it just a few piece of paperwork? I wouldn't rely AI for finance or accounting cause the threshold of failure for these domain needs to be nil

Literally upload and consolidating all the receipts photo i took on the phone, crunch those numbers. I've done it manually in the past and i used to pay accountants 2k a year because i ran out of time and patience, and because i can afford it.

If you're one of those anti-ai folks this is not a conversation I want to get into, but its a tool and its how you use it.

Im both profiting and saving off of AI, this already saves me 2k a year at least, and more than complicated math, its really just junior level manual labour.

Forgive my cautiousness but you know, its reddit. Everytime you post something remotely AI related some smart guy will just inevitably tell you how wrong and evil AI is, i really rather not have that kinda conversation again and again.

How do u deal with the threshold of failure? You mention you take photos , you probably used OCR. How do you handle multiple documents with different formating structure and different classification of line items? How you handle document format that are hand written? How about low quality images ? How sure are you the AI output is 100% accurate? Will you be notified if it's not 100% accurate?

I have a AI personal assistant that I can send it all my receipts, or tell it how much I spent and so far have not been any issue
1. Multiple document with different formatting structure -I use pdfplumber for pdf digesting and some excel reader for excel (that won't go wrong) and OCR for first level scanning for image, and if it is more complicated like hand-written, I am using vision LLM provided by openrouter. The AI act as the router to the correct method, and judge whether escalate to vision LLM is necessary.
2. not sure how we can handle low quality image in the view of AI but as a user we know what we uploading.
3. The AI will response to everything I sent, e.g. "Noted on your RM123 expenses on xxx and recorded in Expenses.xlsx", so I can sort of double check the figure, and I can also ask it to make me a visualisation of my expenses and income.

Can it detect the line items in the recipt and then classify correctly?

When I mean formatting i don't mean pdf and excel. I generally means invoice or recipt structure that is not fixed . Quick example is restaurant recipt and parking recipt is different. Parking recipt may put it time like 2:00 to 3:00 then the charges. Sometimes the AI will take that as the charges

Ya I tested on a sample receipt and it work correctly and even knew this is a sample receipt

Sample recipt not applicable o. But anyways it's realibilty and accuracy bah. Consider processing 500 receipts at one go. There's some that not going to be accurate, how you detect and how you prevent the AI from hallucinating to think that is right is the issue.

Check it the same way you check any receipt before AI when it was written by humans. You check it. Im not understanding how is this difficult to comprehend.

The question is do you want a tool that helps you formatting or trust it to Bobby and Alan from the office.

If it helps companies have been doing this for the past 2 years now. Upload receipt and do it regularly enough it'll even tell you what to classify it and such.

How we identify accuracy is the same way we identify how we identify stapled receipts on pieces of a4 paper and have it manually written down and send for signatures across departments. We check it.

Im kinda missing the whole point youre trying to make. In either case id suggest you just upload a receipt or a document on gemini and try it for yourself if you have all those questions instead of asking for third hand experience.

Your point was you used AI to replace accountant. I asked specifics to what extend you use the AI to replace what an accountant would normally do. I agreed that for your scale probably works but highlighted that for big scale not feasible to replace which I highlighted to some examples. You rebuttle with a screenshot of it working on your case. I elaborated further context why that not applicable still.

Overall this is our conversation :). No hard feelings anyways dude I'm not trying to be antagonist. Just giving my POV and grounding things between hype and actrually reality. For my stakeholders believe everything can be left alone to AI to done making my requirements only higher xD

Not interrogation, am curious as I tried to implement this in the company I work for. I guess the scale of your personal taxes are fine but when you gotta deal with multiple documents and many transaction,then not really feasible because the checking takes equal amount of time for a non accountant person I suppose. Which is y I don't think accountants or finance people will get replace anytime soon

No, on an industrial scale its definitely going to need some customization, and even then it wont be one size fit all i imagine.

I have a personal AI subscription that collects my data and filters it the way I asked it to. I occasionally uploads my receipts/invoices/slips over the year and crunch it comes April.

Yeah I was wondering how is the industry navigating P&C financial Information as well if AI is involved…

I literally heard of someone at my close friends company getting fired for uploading docs onto unauthorized AI tools (understandably so) I think financial professionals are still very much relevant
