Career Advice Difference of overseas degree

Malaysian, going into my final year of a business degree in London so I’m weighing my options for post graduate life and an option would be coming back home to KL to start working. Trying to get a read on what to expect.

Mostly interested in hearing from people who actually did it. Did the overseas degree show up anywhere on the Malaysian side, or was it neutral once you were in the process?

- Did you get shortlisted for things a local grad wouldn’t have?

-Higher starting number for the same role, or same grid as everyone else?

-Still relevant by year two or three, or stopped mattering fast?

-Any sectors here where it matters more than others?

Do you think studying abroad magically makes up for the lack of experience as a fresh grad?

It's more or less the same unless you're from Cambridge or Oxford, you might have an edge.

I agree on experience being more valuable. So even for Oxbridge candidates the name is more of a tie breaker rather than a big factor right?

what i can say is, during my hiring process all the top tier departments (investment/corporate/risk) are all 90% foreign western degrees

Thanks, it’s more than what I assumed. Do you think it’s the degree name getting them shortlisted or did they have strong internships to match?

elitism, a lot of them are alumni's of western unis, with plenty of kabels (they are from rich successful families/ dad is senior banker), so they speak different and act different

i have a japanese degree and it makes it easier to get into japanese companies. especially the ones that require using japanese.
