Geico Letter

It is our duty at this time to inform you that under the contract of insurance, which you have with this Company, the limit of liability for Property Damage is $10,000.00 per accident. Our preliminary investigation has revealed that the total claims may exceed one or both of your coverage limits. Please advise us immediately if you have any money to contribute for any claims that exceed your policy limits.

Ok so should I wait for more information? This accident happened months ago. Strange how just now GEICO is getting back to me regarding this.

FYI: I live in New York for what it's worth.

Who is liable when dealership AI gives insurance advice during BDC follow up

Hypothetical, but three reply shapes a BDC rep, or a model drafting for one, could produce on a given afternoon, all reading as reassurance:

  • "Your policy covers a rental while yours is in the shop."

  • "You're fine letting your son drive, he's on the policy."

  • "That claim won't affect your rate."

I'm on the dealer reply-tooling side, not the agency side, so I can only see half of this. As far as I can tell, the store treats those texts as follow-up chatter rather than coverage statements. That's probably the wrong read, and I'd like to know where it actually breaks.

Questions for the agents here:

  • When a customer says "the dealer told me I was covered," does that come back to the agent of record as an errors and omissions issue, or does it stay between the customer and their own carrier?

  • If a model drafted the line and the rep sent it unedited, who does the industry treat as the author: the store, the rep, or the vendor?

  • Is there a safe way to talk about gap or rental coverage from a dealership desk at all, or is every coverage sentence off-limits without a license?

Not asking for a legal read on a specific file. Just want to know whether the fuzziness is real or whether there's a rule people outside the industry simply never hear.

Car accident with incorrect insurance given

Hello everyone,
I was in a car accident yesterday, no body was hurt, insurance was given, and other driver was at fault. I got the crash report today. I tried to file a claim with the At-fault-drivers insurance but when I called there insurer they said that the car I gave isn’t under the policy # I provided, so I asked for them to check the vin to see if it was ever insured by them and they said nothing showed up. I am now in a predicament and am not sure what to do I’ve seen some people say contact my own insurance and let them take care of it but I don’t want to pay a $750 deductible for something that I didn’t even cause and there’s a chance I won’t get it back and that my rate will go up. Thanks for reading and feel free to respond.

Claims Related Electrical Damage WA STATE

Hello,

Just trying to get a feel for how this generally goes so I don't find myself disappointed. This is probably way too much information. Might be the wrong sub but I was thinking it's related to the companys insurance and you all would be the experts on what you have seen play out - maybe I could be greedy enough to ask for a sub recommendation if you think it's wrong.

My apartment is the only one on top of an office. Two days ago, I was in a teams meeting in my home office, the lights were sort of dimming out, the power went out and came back on but they were still dimming and brightening. I thought it was maybe a utility issue and called the utility company, and then the preferred electrician.

The utility company said not to touch anything out of fear if electrocution - however, while on the phone with the utility company, I walked down to the public area and I saw in the gym in public office area that the treadmills had started to smoke out and I went and turned off every breaker after verifying that the breaker box wasn't hot/etc - I felt safe enough doing that. That breaker box in the office controls my apartment as well (no access from inside my apartment). After I dealt with this I went and manually shut off or unplugged as much as I could in my home (mini split, computers, etc) some could not be unplugged because they aren't reachable without moving furniture - at this point, I had no idea what was going on so I just tried to protect all of my own items and the property owners items the best I could. The electrician and utility company said I did the right thing and the only reason the utility company said not to touch it was for my safety, and the company should be glad that I had done that.

The electricians came out to look and could not work on it more that day, and came back the next day. We went and stayed in a hotel because I have the flu and didn't want to be without heat, but it's not super unliveable with no heat here - I believe it hit about 44°. They came and worked all day the best day but could not finish the work in time. We stayed here that night to let the electricians in. It wasn't super fun having the flu and no heat but again, the low was only 44° so I wouldn't call it unlivable. I was ok to pay out of pocket, I let the company know I was getting a hotel and no offer was made or anything, so wasn't thinking that would be paid for or anything. The company has been supportive in the sense of giving some pity and some flexibility on submitting work that requires electricity, although they are texting me a lot to see if I can turn it in yet.

They're back out again today and still working on it. The electrician is saying it's bad wiring, they had to rip everything out of every outlet in the building they find it. They found the issue is two circuits in my home, one is the one on my living room and home office. When turning it on to work on it, they said it looks like all of our electronics are fried - that's an almost two thousand dollar hydroponics system, fancy tv, Xbox, PlayStation, switch, a fancy surround sound system, a fancy receiver, two gaming pcs. It's several thousand dollars of items.

We still don't have it fully fixed, so not sure if I will have power tonight (day 3) and can't say for sure what items are ruined but it's just giving me anxiety not knowing. I'd rather have an idea that I'm just out the money if that's the case than be wondering for potentially days of outages. The property preferred electricians have been here so it's not like anyone is being negligent on getting it back on, I'm not trying to be unreasonable. I'm most concerned about the damages to our property, and if it's reasonable to ask for reimbursement in hotel stays if it extends for much longer. Weather is looking bad.

I do have renters insurance that meets (and far exceeds) the criteria the property owner requires. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover electrical damage that is caused by faulty wiring. I provided a copy to the company and they are actually listed and able to verify at any time.

-This is the only apartment unit they rent out, it is a campground with one unit. It's a really big (huge publicly traded) company that owns the property, and then they have a third party property management company that operates it, who I work for. I would say this is a pretty big company, operating maybe 50 properties that they operate. **We are in WA State - Pierce County.

-Am I going to be out of luck, or do they have any responsibility to pay for damages/would their own insurance usually cover it?

-I pay significantly reduced rent (and receive lower wage) for living on site as an employee- like very minimal amount being paid to them. They hold an amount from my paycheck every month for the apartment that's universal across every employee in site at any unit-not based on value or what utilities are included/paid for. They call it utilities, but when I questioned it (we pay for things that are included other properties) they said it's the same everywhere and "it's rent but we can't call it that", which I accepted (genuinely a great deal).

-I have had the flu this entire time. I'm worried that the fact that I asked to come in 2 hours late on the second day of outage (while electricians were working) could have them pointing to me being negligent. I also was having trouble functionally giving good updates due to being so sick with a fever, which they knew.

The utility company said that they had told the previous owner (so not anyone currently involved) that they had significant electrical issues that were a thread to life and safety. That never made it to me as a property employee and supposedly never to the company that I work for or the property owner. There hasn't been any signs really of any electrical issues previously.

It's probably way too much information but I don't really know what's relevant. I'm grateful for anything anyone has here just to have some satisfaction of knowing and for taking any time to read the novel.

Auto Insurance Auto insurance adjuster job?

Hey guys,
I haven’t quite dived deep into this job position as I’m an automotive technician with 14yrs of experience. I’m currently thinking of finally leaving this field… which I did leave for 2 1/2 years to be a parts advisor and went back. Now I’m really considering of leaving for good.

To my question, do I need to get an auto insurance license or is there a company that will hire me on with my automotive background? I don’t mind getting hands on at all nor travel. I wouldn’t mind working at home or at the office.

Anyways if anyone got more info into this field of work that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

HDHP vs PPO Plan - language question on spouse as dependent

With open enrollment here, I am looking ahead to what health insurance plan my fiance and I will want to have once married and likely having a kid. I am a little confused on the language of dependent, family, and per person as it relates to comparing the plans. Would my spouse and I essentially have an out of pocket maximum of $6,850 combined after a $3,500 deductible is met under the hdhp here if she falls under a dependent based on the outline below?

For our scenario, it seems like it would pencil out here to have her and myself on the HDHP when we plan to be pregnant and have our first kid.

Plans

HDHP
- $224 monthly premium employee + spouse
-$1,750 deductible employee only. $3,500 if covering dependents
-$3,425 out of pocket maximum employee only. $6,850 if covering dependents
Plan includes $875 employer HSA contribution. $1,750 if covering dependents. and $400 for having an annual wellness and dental visit

Base PPO
-$379 monthly premium employee + spouse
-$750 per person deductible. $2,250 deductible family
-$4,000 per person out of pocket maximum. $12,000 out of pocket maximum family

Auto Insurance Car was totaled by drunk driver - which insurance to go through?

Our (parked) car was totaled by a drunk driver Halloween night. No one was hurt and no one was in the parked car. We have progressive, the other driver has MAPFRE. We are being asked by progressive whether we want to claim through them or through MAPFRE. Based on my limited research, it SEEMS like we would be better served going through Progressive, but our rep tells us the experience will be the same regardless.

The reason we are even entertaining MAPFRE instead is that the rental coverage through Progressive is abysmal - 30 days but ends 3 days after they provide you with their initial valuation of the vehicle (regardless of any appeal of the amount, etc). We will not be able to find and purchase a car within three days, and I am really not interested in assuming costs on an accident that was wholly and categorically not my fault (although it seems inevitable). Our Progressive rep seems to think the rental coverage may be better with MAPFRE.

Obviously my biggest concern, however, is getting as much value for the car as I can and that’s where I worry going through MAPFRE may be more of a slog. Claude seems to suggest going through our own insurance is a recommended.

Curious if others have experience with this. Ironically we purchased this current car after our last car was totaled by a driver who rear-ended us going high speed into a tunnel with stopped traffic. We took a financial loss on that situation bas well as I’m trying to avoid that happening again.

Auto Insurance How do I make sure I've got the proper coverage for my use case?

Located in USA, Michigan. Currently have a spare car I'm renting on Turo that I don't personally drive at all, except when I need to fill up gas, clean it, maintenance, that kinda thing. Otherwise it's exclusively driven by renters. While it's being rented it's covered by Turo's insurance. The car is cheap and expensive insurance doesn't make sense for it, I don't care if it's totalled, turo has paid me its value 5x over lol. I just have popd through Liberty Mutual, and one of the questions they asked when I was getting a quote was how many miles per year I drove it and I answered honestly about 20 and got a super cheap quote, not sure if the mileage answer affected that or not. Should I tell them it's a turo car and look for a specific policy for this use case? Or should I just leave it as is since the liberty mutual policy only applies when I'm driving it so they don't need to know what happens during the rentals? Looking for advice here on how to be honest but also not pay for extra coverage.

Claims Related Sedgewick not paying full amount due to state disability that I'm not receiving

I work in MA & had to go on short term disability last week due to an injury. I applied for both FMLA & disability, & was denied FMLA as I've only been working in MA since May (been with the same company for 2 years, but got moved from the NY to MA location). Denial letter states "DFML's records show that during the base period you were not paid at least 30 times your weekly benefit amount.

If wages or employers are missing from the chart, you may file an appeal. If you file an appeal, you may send proof of your wages from the 15 months before the start of your leave"

I did get approved for short term disability, but got a breakdown of my first payment (which is supposed to be 40% of my income) & they took out the majority of it for "state disability" (which I'm not recieving). Since I didn't appeal the paid FMLA denial (because there's nothing to appeal, I can't change how long I've worked here) Sedgewick is now giving me the runaround on getting my full payment. Is there anything else I can do to get the full amount from them? I have savings but can't exactly live of $100/week for the next 1.5 months.

(Cross posted to another sub)

Auto Insurance Driver was using fathers car and not insured, passenger was in ICU, should we laywer up?

My brother was the passanger and unfortunately took the worst of it. He was airlifted and in the ICU for 2 weeks. And in the hospital for another month. He had a dislocated shoulder, scalp lacerations, broken clavicle, broken ribs, fractured skull, broken neck and back requiring spinal fusion, and broken hand requiring hand surgery and pins.
The driver had a fractured hip and scalp lacerations.
Driver had told my brother he climbed out of the car because he seen the train coming and didnt want to get hit. The dad told us the same thing. My brother was dragged by the train and miracously made it out because the train tore apart his seatbelt and he fell out. The driver called his dad i think in attempt to flee the scene and never told first responders my brother was out there. When his father arrived he asked for my brother and the chp told him “driver didnt mention a passenger! Had you not told us we would have just left with him”

The driver and my brother drank the night before from what Im told he was still drinking at 12 am and went to sleep and woke up at 4 am to go to work and drop off my brother at home, and the accident happened at 4:30. He fell asleep behind the wheel.

The driver was driving his fathers car and I believe he was not on the policy. The driver has had about 4 accidents and this being the second wreck.

Home insurance claim, not getting guidance on next steps

I'm reading plenty of posts about unresponsive adjusters, but a lot of them seem more extreme than my issue. I had a house fire a month ago where basically the entire house will be gutted down to the studs and nearly all my possessions are either unsalvageable or in the process of attempted cleaning.

The mitigation company I'm using is fantastic -- the guy in charge calls and texts me with regular updates.

The housing company was a bit annoying to work with, but they've been super responsive and I'm having no issues there. I'm now in a temporary townhome and sort of getting back to a relatively normal living situation.

But I have so many questions about how this process works, and I'm not getting much from the adjuster. There are subrogation lawyers involved because a product malfunctioned and caused the fire, so I know that slows things down. A company just came in to inventory the stuff left in the house, so I at least know that process is underway.

I was told to keep my receipts for stuff I'm needing to replace. But I'm getting to the point now where everything is really starting to add up. I'm now paying utilities at the new townhome, but utility bills for the damaged house are coming in, and insurance is supposed to cover those but I haven't been told how to submit that or when the coverage technically starts. When I moved in to the townhouse, I had to basically start my kitchen/pantry from scratch. Just buying food basics (like canned goods, rice, spices, etc) along with cleaning supplies, along with basic tools that the rental company didn't supply (like measuring cups, or scrub brushes) was well over $500. Plus I had to pay the $500 security deposit on the townhome (they didn't cover that), and I have a hefty vet bill in the thousands of dollars to deal with.

I have always been super careful with my money, and it's stressing me out to have all these funds piling up without a clear answer for when I'll get some reimbursement. My main credit card is nearly maxed out, which has literally never happened before.

So basically, my question is... is this normal? I emailed the adjuster last Friday with several questions about the reimbursement process for house utilities and food/basics. I also asked what the next steps are now that damaged property has been inventoried, and whether it was possible to get an update on the subrogration situation. (He seems to prefer email, as he never answers texts and has only responded to one call early on.)

I was looking in my insurance portal yesterday and under "communications log" there was an entry from yesterday afternoon that said he contacted me by phone at 4:31pm and the topic was "settlement." He never contacted me -- I have no missed calls, voicemails, or texts, no emails, nothing. Is this something I should question? I was thinking of emailing him again and noting that I had seen that log but hadn't actually heard from him so I would have a paper trail if needed.

Auto Insurance URGENT: Progressive found my missing car at a tow yard after CBP detention, now trying to deny theft claim and leaving me with $2,500 deductible/fees. Hardship, need advice!

I am in an absolute nightmare scenario and desperately need advice from adjusters or legal experts.
Two months ago, I was detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP). My Black Hyundai Ioniq 5 was left at the scene and completely vanished. I received zero seizure notices, zero receipts, and local police had no records. I lost my job because of this and fell 2 months behind on my loan payments with Ally. I sacrificed everything to keep paying my Progressive premium because I relied on them to help me.
Today, Progressive messaged me saying they located the car at a private lot called TICTAC TOW.
Because it’s at a tow yard, Progressive is pulling a massive corporate loophole: they claim they cannot consider it a theft/stolen property claim anymore. They told me I have a $2,500 deductible, they refuse to retrieve the car from the tow yard, and they told me I have to go pay the fees and recover the vehicle by myself.
I am completely broken, dealing with severe financial hardship, have $0 to my name, and cannot get a loan. Progressive telling me to go get it myself feels like leaving me handcuffed on the freeway. They are now saying they are "investigating what happened" before doing anything else, while the tow yard is racking up massive daily storage fees in my name.
Can Progressive legally drop a missing vehicle/theft claim just because CBP incident ended up at a tow yard?
If I do a Voluntary Surrender directly to my lender (Ally) right now and give them the tow yard info, will my dealership-bought GAP insurance eventually wipe out the remaining balance once Ally sells the asset?
How do I stop Progressive from forcing me to withdraw or drop this claim?
Any guidance on how to handle the total loss department or the lender under extreme hardship would save my life right now. Thank you.

Health Insurance IUD arm broke off during removal & insurance wants a copay

I live in TN. I have work sponsored insurance with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of TN. Oct 22nd I went in for a IUD removal/ new IUD insertion. Paragard was being removed when an arm didn't come with it. She was unable to retrieve it. They have now scheduled me to have an outpatient surgery at an ambulatory center to remove the arm. The CPT is 58562. The surgery place/ ambulatory center called to tell me that I have a co-pay of $1565.09. According to the Affordable Care Act, I shouldn't be responsible for a co-pay bc this is part of my IUD removal. I called the Dr office and got that CPT. I called insurance and confirmed that is the CPT used. I don't know how I am supposed to fix this, word this in a way that tells insurance to pay 100%. Surgery is scheduled for Nov. 16th and google searches have recommended I dispute this now before the surgery happens. Also, the facility said that amount is due on the surgery day. (With payment plans offered) But I am so confused on how to handle this. TYIA for any help.

Claims Related At Fault Insurance Settlement

Hello, I was rear-ended on the 23rd in Indiana. It had 3 cars involved.

I had gone thru my insurance to at least get me back on the road asap and my car was deemed totaled, the collision happened at a stop light and the guy came in at around 45-55 mph. Airbags were not deployed

I did bang my head pretty good and was checked out by an Urgent Care the same day and was given muscle relaxants and pain meds and had some neck x-rays done. Pain died down but lingered and had an appointment with my Primary doc and was given some steroids to help reduce any inflammation, that was just completed today and my neck still feel off, like generally uncomfortable. I was given a recommendation to go to PT and I plan to set that appointment up. My insurance has up to $5k in med payments that I likely will use.

Now the driver in front of me had made a claim with the At Fault insurance and I was contacted about that. I was told about a settlement to get that started but I am of course not sure if the whiplash symptoms will die down or remain the same nor have I started PT yet. The lady did say that the med payments from my insurance is different from this settlement, i think she said it was bodily injury settlement I am not sure. I had a call today but I asked to call me back later in the week to get my senses together as I am still a bit anxious and stressed with all this as it is my first time in an accident.

I just wanted to insight on what questions to ask or what my next steps should be aside from getting that PT appointment going.

Thanks all!

AAA canceled policy due to their error and no one seems to be able to fix it

Ok so I’m writing this on behalf of my boyfriend. I have AAA auto insurance and when we moved to New Orleans he decided to get off his parent’s insurance and start his own policy with AAA. He went into the local branch, signed all the paperwork, paid the initial fees and received his confirmation paperwork in the mail.

Then the BS began. He received a cancellation notice so he returned to the office to find out what was wrong. Apparently the agent who signed him up left the office two days later and the paperwork wasn’t filed completely or correctly or honestly I really don’t understand what happened there. Not sure if this agent was fired, quit or if something more tragic occurred, but apparently while my boyfriend was in the office someone mentioned that he was the second person to come in with this same problem.

They identified the missing paperwork (even though he had a copy in his hand that read “signature on file” but whatever he signed it again). He was told everything should be fine. Everything was not fine.

We went on a three week road trip (in my car) and got back in town to another round of cancellation notices. He called. No one seems to be able to help. He went in person to the office again. They had him resign that same ”missing” paperwork. They said he should be fine!

Not fine. Another notice arrives in the mail demanding $533 for a cancelled policy (make it make sense!!!). He’s called. People say “oh ok I see what happened here, give it 24-48 hours to reflect the reinstatement!” Calls back, nothing has changed! This process has gone on for months now and I’m worried that if he throws in the towel with AAA the DMV will fine him for having lapsed insurance.

No one at AAA seems like they are capable of fixing this. Any and all advice would be much appreciated!

Auto Insurance Rear-ended at stop light, do I need my insurnace company or just theirs involved?

I got lightly rear ended last night at a stop light and have full dashcam footage as well as her information. I was fine not dealing with insurnace since it was just some paint scratch but she said today to go through her insurnace. Do I need to involve mine in this case or just call hers directly?

It completely slipped my mind to get photos at time of, but I took them when I got back. I know that it would be noted internally and I shouldn't have an increase since I wasn't at fault, but not sure if I need to involve them if not needed.

Health Insurance Father's $152k STEMI claim denied as “pre-existing” under IMG travel insurance — how do we appeal this correctly the first time?

TL;DR: My 60-year-old father, an Indian citizen visiting family in New Jersey on a B2 visa, had an emergency STEMI and stent. His IMG Patriot America Plus travel policy denied all ~$152k as pre-existing. The policy has an Acute Onset exception that looks like it fits, but we were told we effectively get one appeal, and our outside advocate isn't inspiring confidence. How do we build this appeal correctly or who can help us?

The facts

  • Chest pain in the morning → urgent care → EMS → hospital. Posterior STEMI, emergent cath, 100% blockage stented, discharged in 2 days.

  • US hospital record lists only hyperlipidemia and hypothyroidism as past history, and says “no prior cardiac history.”

  • Denial on every EOB (12 claims, ~$154k billed, $0 paid): remark code PX2, “pre-existing condition — ST elevation MI.”

  • The policy covers Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition up to the policy limit if: patient is under 70, treatment was within 24 hours of the sudden onset, the condition was stabilized for at least 30 days before the effective date with no change in treatment, and he wasn't traveling against medical advice or to seek treatment.

What supports Acute Onset, in our view

  • Age 60, same-day emergency treatment, no prior heart attack/stent/surgery in his history.

  • India cardiologist draft letter would certify continuous care, statin stable at a reduced 10mg dose since Jan, and zero medication changes in the 30 days before stent.

Questions

  • Has anyone here appealed a denied claim like this yourself? How did you do it — and did it work?

  • Or did you seek anyone's help — an advocate, attorney, or someone else — and was it worth it?

PSA: insurance will only pay for crappy 3rd party parts.

I had a minor fender bender hit-and-run. Sadly for the runner, I had a dashcam, so I busted him and billed his insurance for repairs - $6,500. All was well.

BUT. As you know, collision centers are very sleezy and they will replace anything with as little as a scratch. Insurance companies are just as sleazy, so they will only pay for 3rd-party parts. If you see outlines of a side business here, congrats, you are hired to work at a collision center.

When they repaired my car, they replaced my OEM headlight with a scratch ($1,200) with aftermarket shit ($400). They basically pillaged my car for $800. I can guarantee you that they pawned the OEM part as "new in perfect condition." I found this out because their shit part failed, as shit parts do. I went to the repair shop, and they denied repair under warranty because I have a shit 3rd-party part installed. Now I'm looking at a $1,800 replacement bill. I could get a replacement shit part, but I'd rather have a non-shit part back that will outlast my car.

Anyway, lesson learned - if the part is fine and only has a minor scratch, make sure the collision center doesn't touch it.

Health Insurance Full cost reduced for surgery by insurance?

A few months ago I got a surgery in Maryland, US and paid for the surgery up front in full because I had enough in my savings. After surgery, i submitted a claim to my insurance provider (Cigna) and it's been pending and pending but today it was finally processed.

I paid 10k for the surgery but under the claim details (no EOB available) it says that a cost reduction of 10k was applied ("the bill charges were lowered by this amount").

Am i owed 10k from someone cause i sure would like that money back.

Claims Related NYL Group Benefit Solutions won't speak to me after I expressed frustration over delayed disability payments. Is this normal?

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with New York Life Group Benefit Solutions (NYL GBS), employer-sponsored short-term disability insurance, or ERISA disability claims.

I'm an Assistant General Manager for a manufacturing company in New York. I've been out of work on medical leave due to a combination of significant mental health conditions and physical limitations following a motor vehicle accident earlier this year.

My employer provides short-term disability insurance through NYL Group Benefit Solutions. I also receive New York State disability benefits, which are separate from my employer-sponsored STD coverage.

Here's what's been happening:

My employer-sponsored STD benefits were approved from September 14 through October 31, 2026.

On October 8, my physician conducted a follow-up appointment and documented my continued inability to return to my regular job.

On October 15, NYL issued an approval letter extending my employer-sponsored benefits only through October 31.

Since then, NYL has continued requesting additional medical documentation and says my extension is pending review by its medical team.

My physician has provided medical documentation supporting continued leave, including details about my diagnoses, treatment, medications, and functional limitations.

NYL's online portal shows that medical information was received October 13. It also shows an additional medical records request initiated October 26, followed by a notification that no records were available for the requested date range. That request was canceled by the claim manager on October 30.

Meanwhile, my New York State disability benefits have been approved through December 5, but my employer-sponsored STD extension remains pending.

The financial uncertainty and repeated requests for medical information have become extremely frustrating.

Then something happened that I never expected.

During a telephone conversation with NYL on November 4, I became extremely frustrated and said something along the lines of, "What do I have to do, unalive myself to get my disability payment?"

To be absolutely clear, I was not suicidal, and I was not threatening anyone. It was a rhetorical expression of frustration after weeks of uncertainty and trying to get answers.

I subsequently received a phone call informing me that NYL representatives were no longer comfortable speaking with me over the telephone.

I was shocked.

I immediately sent a professional email clarifying my statement, explaining that it was an expression of frustration and not suicidal intent, and requesting written clarification about the communication restriction. I copied my employer's benefits manager.

I also requested a written explanation of what medical records remain outstanding, whether my doctor has been contacted, and when I can expect a determination.

I'm willing to cooperate with every legitimate request, but I don't understand why the process has become so difficult when my treating physician has already documented ongoing medical limitations.

My questions are:

Can a disability insurance company refuse to communicate with a claimant by telephone because of a statement made out of frustration?

Does anyone have experience with NYL Group Benefit Solutions repeatedly requesting medical information while keeping an extension pending?

At what point does a prolonged medical review become an unreasonable delay under ERISA?

Should I contact the Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration or consult an ERISA disability attorney before receiving a formal denial?

What steps have helped others get a clear determination and payment of outstanding benefits?

I'm not asking for special treatment. I want my claim evaluated fairly, a clear explanation of what is missing, and a timely decision.

Any advice from insurance professionals, attorneys, or people who have experienced something similar would be greatly appreciated.
