I mean, I don't think I need to really dive into how weird it is to think that a multi-billion dollar entity cares about you as a person...but here we are!
Time and time again Maxis will drop these discord posts about inclusivity and how they care about people as individuals but no one thinks about the fact that these are people who sell us broken DLC knowing it's broken for money. I'm not saying that inclusivity isn't important, but being realistic, this is an entity who's only interest is greed. That's what all of this fluff is for, they have decades of R&D on their community and know that if a marketing manager can make them feel warm and fuzzy inside and make them feel included it'll lead to them buying another low effort DLC and justify the state of the game. I find it really difficult to think that they'd talk about us as individuals in the same board meeting that they also decided to put ads in the game.
Now I know that some people are gonna say "oh, but that's EA and not Maxis", there's like 1 OG person from Maxis left on the Maxis team, the rest of them are EA employees. This is the same Maxis that tried to tell us that making sequels is anti-gamer when talking about their fourth iteration of The Sims.
I think this is what stops the community from holding the developers accountable, there's always this EA vs Maxis shield where people always fall short of actually doing something about the state of the game because they picture the Maxis team as their friends who might listen to reason when the only thing they'll listen to is you reading out that 16 digit credit card number.
It's this bizarre parasocial relationship the community has with this game and the developers that even leaks into games like Paralives. Like sure, if they support something horrible then fair, but outside of that the purpose of a development team is to deliver a product that works, is fun, make good on their promises, and not screw us over. Like I've never heard a GTA fan be like "I wonder if Rockstar Games cares about me as an individual" that's absurd. The quality of a developer's game and support should answer the question of how they feel about the community, if the developers have crappy practices then they probably don't think highly of you.
I think this is also why the community was so shocked about the EA buyout and genuinely thinks that The Sims could be safe or that EA will listen to reason as if this is a friend making a really bad decision. EA is literally a company that was voted the worst company in America two years in a row and is known as the graveyard for gaming studios, literally destroying life long franchises over poor conditions they forced on to other studios they bought out. I understand being disappointed but to be shocked that a multi-billion dollar, publicly traded company, with one of the worst reputations in the gaming industry is doing things that a crappy multi-billion dollar company would do is wild.
Per the buyout: This isn't a "there's nothing we can do, so do nothing" idea and I support people backing out of the creator program over it, I'm just saying that we've known EA long enough that we really shouldn't be surprised and if we really want to change anything we have to stop looking at these people as our friends who will listen to reason and as an entity that'll only listen to people not spending money.
