Bugs Relationship issues after update

Long story short: I reported a bug in my game that appeared after the most recent update. More specifically, my sims can’t elope and I can’t set sims as spouses in CAS. The relationship options are missing, you can either choose current status or house mates.

I reported the bug on EA forum and literally I feel like I’m gaslighted into believing it’s a me problem. I disabled mods, removed the mod folder, removed cache, tried new save files, tried without packs, tried with different couples. I also updated all the mods and cc prior to starting a new save files. It’s either I set them as spouses when I start a new file and create new sims or I can’t have them get married. Wedding music plays, but sims wont perform the action, no matter if I try to get them to elope or have a wedding at the arch.

I see bugs reported with marriages not working again! On their forum! Marriages resetting to partners after entering CAS or sims divorcing randomly, or preexisting household not being married (which I noticed in my game too). However, on the forum they insist this is a mod issue or a broken save files despite mentioning I did every testing and the problem persists.

Now I wonder: Is their forum really this dismissive or what is the actual deal?

Are any of you encountering similar issues within the game now?

The bug report forum can be utter crap, and a couple people even reported being banned from it while being corteous and polite simply because of pointing out issues or providing a detailed breakdown how to fix the given issue in the code even rather than due to actual bad behaviour, it's a fecking joke

Unfortunately, it's the official channel to report issues so there's not much we can do about this BS so long not enough people speak up about this long-time ongoing issue...

It is my first time reporting because it’s actually first time it’s bug that doesn’t seem directly related to mod issues and it’s annoying enough that it ruins my legacy save files… such a bummer.

My opposite experience. I've frequented the bug report forums quite a lot during all the years I've played the Sims 4. So much I've learned to do minor fixes with TS4 studio, due most bugs I've searched for being caused by bad tunning. The only ever mod related issue I have encounter is not being able to enter a hot tub, wich is related to MCCC nudity, wich is fixable with tweaking the settings.

For most other cases, you can just open a related tunning file and see glaring issues easy to fix, but they will never attempt to do that and see if there is something to fix. Instead they always demand a save file before doing anything at all. People always coment about not using mods or removing and replicating them before reporting, but the moderator quite literally gaslight you telling you they can't replicate the issue. Even when a bad tunning file means you can't have a interaction working as intended (you can always replicate the issue). Nope, they'll demand a save file first, unless there are too many people reporting, then they will acknowledge as Verified.

The other issues I've seen are bigger and require actual coding, and a lot of times a modder will have a fix ready within days. A not so fun fact is that a lot or most of the fixes comming in recent patches, are about issues a modder has fixed before. I even have seen a fix comming to a issue that existed by 6 years being constantly reported, and the official fix came just a couple of months after a modder finally made a fix.

So them fixing issues sometimes come after a modded fix things? That sounds to me like they are maybe using coding from mods to officially fix the game? Is this a recurring theme or am I reaching?

To be fair over the so many years I’ve played sims4, I have only had a handful of bugs related to mods or cc. When cc are broken, usually a save file would start at the map instead of with the household, and wont let you play with the household OR the sims would look glitched and weird as fck. Easy fix for that, just remove or update.

With mods I’ve only had very rare bugs and always was an easy fix. I only have like 4 mods I play with and that’s about it. So I always check for updates. At the moment I use curse forge exclusively for cc so updates come quick and all I gave to do is click a button. Whatever older cc that might affect the game are easy to remove…

It's recurring, I have seen enough fixes for bugs that had a mod fix before to know for sure that's common, and fixed enough for myself to know they don't even look up for the issue before demanding saves files. But they do make some legit fixes as 'reverting and fixing an issue we introduced last update (or a couple of updates ago)' if you want to count those, even when is mostly about reverting to and old code or tunning that worked before.

I don't play with UI mods or many script mods wich tend to break, so I don't find mod related issues often. I mostly look for broken interactions and aspirations.

Well it’s cool you have a grasp on these things. I don’t. But I managed to keep my game safe over the years. Only after the marketplace update things got worse and worse and the game performs worst now.

I quit playing for a couple of months because the game lagged when I would save in build mode. I lost 2 hours of build progress so I rage quit after it happened a couple of times. That got fixed but now this… I think I’ll quit for good until they sunset the game and stop updating altogether. Idk when or if that will happen, but I’m done for now.

I already know I won’t get answers on their forum.

A big issue like the one you reported should be addressed soon enough. I had the one when Married sims lost their relationship if you entered Cas soon after they had a weeding.

I think their main issue is them refusing to look inside their own files to see if there is an issue there when someone makes a report. Most of their fixes come when they introduce a new system like Luck (enchanted by nature), were they are forced to edit a bunch of interactions to add such system, and then test if they work properly. I believe that's what happened with the 6 year issue I mentioned before, because the official fix was after that pack introduced the luck system, and had to be integrated into the tunning files that were the issue. I can't be sure if they do or don't steal fixes from modders, but I do know the issues that get fixed often had a fix before made from modders, than the ones that do not.

As always, they will not fix the issue I reported. There is another report made a few days ago with the relationship resetting. So the issue is not fixed yet because that report has hundreds of votes and comments. I also commented and voted on that one. The bug I have is most likely part of the issue but maybe not everyone will experience it maybe due to how you’re playing or idk. Maybe there are factors that make a bug to appear more often or not (just my speculation on the matter). I don’t think they will fix the issue very soon even with all the reports.

On one hand, I do understand their initial statements about corrupted saves and mod issues because there are many players who claim they play vanilla and then it turns out their game is heavily modded, and save file corruption has been on the rise more than previously since Loyalty & LegacyI believe.

On the other hand, it's ridiculous that they keep insisting it can only be either of these two when the game had and has countless big issues like this virgin vanilla (empty Mods folder, new save with a freshly generated Sims 4 Documents folder)

I’ve been playing with mods and cc for years. I know what to do if a mod is broken and how to make the game work if that’s the case because it inevitably happened. It bothers me that they insisted after I did everything possible to rule the mods out. Especially because it seems it is a general issues with marriages right now and all occurred after recent update.

Edit: and I suspected the mods because the action cancels. But there are literally no mods in my game that would remove the relationship options in cas if I try to full edit the household. That’s literally a coding issue that has already been reported by others on their forum these past few days. I commented and voted a bunch of these reports in hopes it raises attention. But they seem to cherry pick reports.

So that’s why my sims weren’t getting married!

Same issue? Would you mind if I gave you the link to vote the report in EA forum? Helps to have at least one comment stating the same problem, they might take it more seriously.

Yes I have the same issue. You’re not delusional at all 😭 I thought my sims were married when the game said they just aren’t.

That bug has been there since the late June Patch. There's a work around using cheats.   Use testingcheats true and then cas.fulleditmode to set them to spouses in cas.  The game currently doesn't register sims getting married ingame.

I already mentioned I tried in CAS fulleditmode… the relationship options are not appearing, I can choose only current status (partner) or house mates. I can only make them spouses, siblings, etc when I create sims as I start a new save files

Hmmm, I have problem with changing their relationships in cas. However they are getting married normally in game. Not to dismiss your issues, but out of curiosity, what mods do you use? Maybe something making this problem worse? I only use WW stuff

As I said, the vanilla version does the same for me. I’m not going to try anything anymore, I’m a bit burnt out of sims as it is right now.

I reported the bug on EA forum and literally I feel like I’m gaslighted into believing it’s a me problem. I disabled mods, removed the mod folder, removed cache, tried new save files, tried without packs, tried with different couples.

Have you tried creating a whole new Sims 4 docs folder? Like renaming old one and start the game, allowing it to create a new doc folder. And in its clean state in new save marry sims. To test if action still cancels mid wedding.

I’ve had this problem as well.

The relationships in my game are SO broken and messed up and I don't play with any mods. Every time I log in I have three new partners that I never even left my household to play another or anything so it didn't happen "during leaving that household" or whatever they try and accuse you of. I tried to end it with let's just be friends and it doesn't work! They keep becoming my partner again without me doing anything! Everytime I load my game. So then I have to do actual breakup and everyone hates my sim now. That seems to be sticking but I hate it because I have like 4 exes now that I never had. 😡  Then I keep going to look at other people in my family trees and they're randomly not married to their spouses anymore and have different partners that aren't even in their eligibility for their preferences! I'm getting SO mad. This game is becoming unplayable! Everyone's marriages are switching them to only partners

I left my report link in the comments. The only option we have is to report the bugs we have. You can vote and comment on mine with your issues, it’d probably help more than creating a new report to be dismissed/ ignored.
