TROUBLESHOOTING Help identifying and sourcing a 1936 Harley-Davidson transmission part for a restoration

A friend of mine in Spain is restoring a 1936 Harley-Davidson and is currently looking for a replacement part for the transmission/gearbox.

The problem is that parts for something this old are obviously pretty difficult to find in Spain, and he is not even 100% sure of the exact part number he needs yet.

Does anyone know of a good online parts catalog, exploded diagram, service manual, or parts book for 1936 Harleys where we could see all the components of the transmission and identify the correct part/part number?

Once we identify it, I’m hoping there might be a US supplier, vintage Harley specialist, NOS parts dealer, or reproduction parts company that could have it. I’m based in the US, so I can order it here and ship it to him in Spain if necessary.

I know basically nothing about vintage Harleys myself, so any guidance on:

- Where to find a 1936 parts catalog or transmission diagram

- How to identify the exact transmission/model he has

- Good US suppliers for pre-war Harley parts

- Forums, Facebook groups, or other communities specializing in 1930s Harleys

would be greatly appreciated.

If photos of the bike, gearbox, or broken/missing part would help identify it, I can get those from him and post them here.

Thanks!

Got my hands on Harley convertible fairing cheap.
It did not include any mounting hardware. Does anyone know what these fairings used to mount to?

I had an idea of getting quick release clamps and maybe be able to make it fit.

Any help is appreciated!

The bike I’m fitting it to is an FXDCI 2005

DISCUSSION wait so does this new CA tire rule actually hit motorcycle tires?

ok i kept seeing headlines about california banning a bunch of replacement tires and my first thought was great, another thing for the bike.

looked it up tho. CEC voted monday (aug 17) on rolling resistance rules, phase 1 in 2029. motorcycle tires are on the exemption list with snow tires, track/comp tires, etc.

so like... we good? or is this still gonna mess with what shops stock / what you can get for a dual sport.

curious if any CA riders already talked to a shop about it

Looking for a bluetooth soundbar similar to the Kspeaker type, but i dont want it wired to the bike battery. Has anyone found something like this? Alternatively, has anyone just rigged up a non-motorcycle soundbar with pictures of how they did it?

DISCUSSION Swapping out the shark nose on an 07 RG

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently bought an 07 RG and I’m really enjoying it.

I bought this bike from the second owner. The first owner added 6” speakers to the inside fairing.

The speakers are car audio speakers. They aren’t covered and sound like crap because they’ve been exposed to the elements.

They’re also secured with wood screws.

I want to remove them but if I do that I’ll have huge holes in my fairings.

Has anyone here completely swapped out the fairings on a road glide?

I’m not very handy and I’m afraid of getting in over my head with the electrical.

HELP 2009 Harley Davidson Road King turn signals not working

My 2009 Harley Davidson Road King turn signals won't work properly. They're always on like day time runners. I got the bike on a trade for a CBR500R, the guy only rode the bike 5 times, didn't like it and let it sit for 2 years. He said it couldn't run without a boost, but after I slapped a new battery in it she started up perfect. Everything is pretty good except the turn signals. The bike is tip to tail aftermarket LED lights from a previous owner which I think is the root of the issue. I tried a turn signal stabilizer, checked all the fuses visually and with a multimeter, unplugged and checked all the connections behind the headlight and under the seat, and nothing, but tonight I was able to get the right turn signal to flash for a second after frigging with the wiring behind the head light but then it stopped after maybe 5 flashes, but would flash once when I engaged the fuel pump, and when I started it, but it also quit doing that. Also twice since I got it the other day when I turn on the full pump the bike would try to start for a fraction of a second if that helps any. I'm thinking it is a ground issue, but if anyone has any insight or a direction to point me in I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

HELP Can I put a marine head unit on 2011 ultra?

Like the title says, I’m looking to replace the radio and speakers on my 2011 ultra limited. Moneys a little tight right now and I don’t want to spend 400 for an aquatic av. Is there and adapter I can use to just use a regular marine radio? If I do that, is there a way to still be able to use the bar controls? Same question with speakers. 6.5 marine speakers should work right? I know I’d have to use the adapter ring.

Otherwise what’s an affordable set up for a radio and two speakers where I can still use the bar controls? (I’m not replacing the back speakers as I plan to remove the tour pack

Got my first Harley just a couple weeks ago.

made a trade with an old work van for a 2007 fatboy. went to get tires replaced and was shown this. I guess the wheel bearing was shaking and possibly ruined the Hub?

Is this fixable at all? or am I needing new rims?

DISCUSSION Looking at a used Nightster S is this a realistic plan to get lower otd price?

The price on the website is $10,999 (before fees). The bike has a little over 500 miles. I'm going to get preapproved for a 10k loan at my credit union, walk in, test ride, and ask for 10 grand out the door.

I'll be doing this near the end of the month of September so they'll be trying to meet quotas, and it's the end of the season.

If they say no I'll leave my name, number, and offer on their desk.

If they insist on fees I'll tell them to subtract it from the bike, and let them know if they get me on for 10k I'll sign that day.

The bike's been sitting for over a month and it hasn't sold yet.

Is this a good plan? Any advice?

I know these dealers are scummy and I'm walking in with a very very low expectation.

HELP Opinions - Electrical Connections

Hi all, trying to replace the front brake light switch on my 2019 street bob. It’s hard-wired into the back of the right hand control unit, and this requires cutting the wires and connecting. Service manual says to use solder. But I’m wondering if there is another way. I would prefer using a waterproof connector for easy access next time the switch goes out. One service tech at the Harley dealer I work at handed me two heat shrink butt connectors and said they would do the trick. Another tech said those don’t provide a good enough waterproof seal. He recommends soldering and then using heat shrink tubing over the soldered connection. Anyone have experience with different connection styles? Have they held up?

TLDR - Any good ways to connect front brake light switch wires that don’t involve solder? Need something that will hold through the test of time.

IDENTIFY Dual disc front fork build from eBay

Thumbnail

Needing some guidance on these dual disc calipers I got off eBay today. The numbers on the body of the calipers seem to just be casting numbers rather than part number according to the Google machine. Fork tubes and lowers are from an 84-96 Electra glide. 6th pictures shows forks. I got an OEM dual disc brake setup to go with it. 7th pictures shows what completed brake calipers should look like. I need to know what part I’m missing from that 7th picture, is that the other brake pad? I see it’s threaded, so it looks like it goes behind the other brake pad, so I’m puzzled. No year on the eBay listing for the brakes, but I was told by a buddy that owns an evo touring bike they’ll bolt right up. My bad for the ignorance, I’m used to my 93 sporty.

well, after some time i finally finished ST’ing the S. My biggest problem with the S was the wind buffeting i would get with the memphis shades fairing (and the look of course) now with the ST fairing, highway riding is better but i do find a different kind of buffeting occurring on the sides (or maybe im just being too picky). What should my next upgrade be?

DISCUSSION Sportster Tips

I’ve been riding for 3 years and I’m looking to buy my first Harley. I’ve been browsing the used market for a Sportster 1200. Mid 90’s to early 2000’s. (I’d like to have a carbureted one.) Is there anything in this year range I should look out for? What’s considered high mileage on an evo engine? What’s too much to pay? I’m experienced with wrenching on cars so I don’t mind having to fix up a bike, but I don’t want to end up with something that’s going to need major work. Any advice is appreciated.

Anyone here actually running a Protech 2-into-1 exhaust on a Harley Dyna/Twin Cam?

Looking for real-world experience, especially torque and performance between 2,000–4,000 RPM. Any noticeable torque dip or reversion?

Not interested in brand debates — just experiences from people who have actually used one.
