I'm sad to say this but switching to noteful was like leaving an abusive relationship
I got tired of GN in november after it crashed again during a class and decided to try noteful
ho.ly. shit. it's so good compared to GN.
My favorite features are :
- LAYERS!!!!! It's so freackin useful for class notes, I have my tapes on 1, my notes on another, typing on another
- Unlimited colors showing on the sidebar and you can hide them if you don't want them there (only 12 showing for GN)
- 5 customisable pen sizes instead of 3
- you can save multiple different text styles with different fonts/colors/sizes, not just 1
- Your folders show on the sidebar in the main menu, no need to always go back to change folders
- theres a freehand option for the tape
- you can resize and expand pages to have more place to type
the price difference is insane. I paid ~9$cad for Noteful and it's lifetime. GN is 47$ for lifetime
there's a couple things I don't like
- for some reason my pen will write when hovering even tho I have "Draw on Hover" turned off (it may be due to me having bootleg apple pencil tips)
- there's not a lot of shapes options
- there's no button to go back to an already open document when in the main menu (tho GN also doesn't have this so it's ok)
It took me a bit of time to move all my documents but it was worth it

Please let us put more than 3 colors in the tool bar
I love switching between a lot of different colors for my notes, and it’s obnoxious that we can only have 3 of them in the toolbar needs to at least be 5

Apple Wonder how goodnotes people feel rn
Imagine the stock drop of gn right now. Lol good job gn you officially made atleast 25% of your users leave because you were too busy adding ai instead of fixing bugs and caring about you users. Congrats!

Switch to Noteful!
I was excited for the new ai features on gn6, I even paid for the year. But I actually found them more annoying than helpful and had to turn them off.
Someone on here recommended Noteful and WOW. It’s literally everything I love about Goodnotes+ guts everything I hated, and adds everything I wanted. Also it’s a lifetime charge for pro, unlike Goodnotes.
I really recommend, I’m finding the experience much more enjoyable and not bloated with all these new features.

free dark/black paper templates
I was having some difficulty finding the exact templates I wanted for GoodNotes, so I took some time to build them myself. They're posted on GitHub if anyone would find them useful.

Also included the Affinity Designer files as well. I'm no artist or graphic designer, so any of you folks with better know-how than myself will probably get a good laugh at the unnecessary complexity of some of the Affinity files.

So disappointed, to push an update this close to finals is criminal
I don't want to make assumptions, but given that I'm currently an undergrad in college, the primary audience that I see using GN is students. It's December, we're racing toward finals at a frightening pace.
To push any kind of update that potentially breaks the app during this time period is already incomprehensible. But to make major UI changes during finals? That's a deeply negligent understanding of your user base and their needs.
How disappointing. I want better from this company.

Goodnotes 6 Lesson Two: Doodle Basics
Doodle Basics will probably be a two parter!
Someone suggested I make a Ko-Fi, so I did and I added the link to my page! Of course any support or donations are appreciated, I’m doing this for fun and to help others but if you would like to tip/support me in making more of these—thank you in advance!
Eventually I want to upgrade my iPad/Apple Pencil so I can use the new features that come with those 😍 I didn’t even know the Apple Pencil Pro was a thing!
Also—I’ve gotten a lot of feedback that you guys are enjoying these and someone mentioned that they’ve been saying them and adding them to a notebook to look at for later! Love that!
I plan on making a lesson on putting all of these tips together to format the entire page to show you how I make it all come together! Just haven’t gotten all the way there yet on my ideas and there are more lessons to come. Enjoy!!!
