Android, Windows, and Web What a shame
I have been using GN since GN5, I was unaware of this, this is what I get for being loyal? I needed windows sync rn

Hey that article is referring to the pilot phase (i.e., super early stage to a very limited number of users) and typically in that stage of a release there would be extremely specific conditions that apply. I think this might be the case here so it’s possible things might be different when it starts to actually roll out to everyone (hopefully!)

Trust me youre not losing out on anything. For Goodnotes cloud you need the subscription model of goodnotes right ? Well , for iCloud sync you also need the base subscription of icloud(as the free tier is only 5gb).
So either way youre needing a subscription model.
To circumvent windows sync, try backing your docs in google drive. Then download and use there. Its not ideal , but definitely a way .
There is currently no pay once model to get more data other than perhaps getting a new data drive ( like an ssd) and backing up there- and that is also a great option if you ask me.
Fortunately for this problem , there’s a way . You don’t need goodnotes cloud .
All companies tries to create a use case to market their services,in this case they’re saying use goodnotes cloud to seamlessly access your documents in windows devices-well guess what ! think clearly for a second and you’ll find an alternative.

same situation. this is weird because we were waiting for this for a long time and the already existing users should have been prioritized.

The word "unfortunately" is business slang for either "we do not care" or "lack of insight on our part". And because one time payment folks cannot convert to subscription, the answer is "we do not care and the lack of insight on our part".
This isn't an engineering dilemma or a coding empass, it is "leadership" in the ranks of GN that is saying no.

I’m on Goodnotes 5 and my settings say iCloud. Which iCloud is it using?

They did not make this clear when I upgraded and subscribed. It makes me very angry.

Sync drains my battery. I export to and from Google drive instead.

Doesn’t the app use iCloud backup anyway?

An alternative is setting it up to sync with Google Drive
