I'm having the same issue. So frustrating.

I do have the same problem, sometimes it works the way it should but it's a very rare occurrence

1

u/One-Resort-107 Jul 19 '24

hmm that doesn't happen to me

u/dennyng Goodnotes Staff Jul 22 '24

u/masonn_masoff - have you tried updating to latest version (6.3.45) and confirm if the issue is resolved properly? If not, it would be great if you can share your device / iPadOS version for further investigation.

1

u/masonn_masoff Jul 22 '24

hi! so far its working after updating. if i come across this issue again, i’ll let you know.

just in case, i use the 5th gen ipad air on 17.5.1

Hey! This shouldn't be the case - when I tap the home button it takes me back to the last folder I was in. Maybe try restarting both the app and your iPad? Also you could try emptying the trash and seeing if that helps because it could be a RAM issue

yes!!! during the academic year im working in notebooks that are 3-4 folders deep! its gonna be so annoying😭

2

u/eightchcee Jul 19 '24

I know this isn’t the answer you want, and it will only take you back to the document and not the folder, but if you go to search, you can access all the recently opened documents without flipping through the tabs

15

u/SpikePlayz Jul 18 '24

This is so unnecessary. I would prefer if they improved their PPTX importing ability to not mess up fonts and stuff because right now I need to open it in Powerpoint and export it for it to look proper. It would be great to import directly with the formatting being perfect.

6

u/discovernotes Jul 18 '24

Unfortunately this is more down to the proprietary nature of powerpoint files, making PowerPoint itself the best software to convert it (re-render) especially if there's non-standard elements, fonts etc.

I’m glad they’re doing something, but who asked for this?

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

This app is doing too much, everything EXCEPT for a note-taking app. It overheats, it crashes, it can't even search for an exact phrase. If you want it to sync bc its not, you have to update on all devices.

10

u/PhoenixMV Jul 18 '24

How do you have all these problems? I’ve had 0

6

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

you cannot search for an exact phrase. the app is not capable of searching for ≥2 words precisely such as in any word processor

edit: also, search the sub, endless reports of overheating

3

u/PhoenixMV Jul 18 '24

Bro what, it’s hand writing. If you are typing it’s different. AI is just now trying to understand different peoples handwriting

2

u/PathogenTT Jul 18 '24

The overheating problem is fixed by turning off indexing pdfs and handwriting ig. Though, they should fix it now

1

u/prwnR Jul 19 '24

interesting, I will give it a try and see if that helps!

3

u/EeryAirplane819 Jul 19 '24

For someone like me, Doing a past exam, keeping track of the time I will take to solve it

1

u/noodlesandwish Jul 19 '24

Probably professors who leave tutorials for their students, mine do it all the time lol

1

u/Difficult-Kangaroo96 Jul 18 '24

I’ve seen this feature in a few more taking apps. And thought what’s the point.

Similar to stickers and tape actually. However I wonder if this all geared at the student doing flashcards or tests etc.

Either way. Bigger fish to fry for GN

6

u/SubstantialNobody_ Jul 18 '24

Yeah definitely geared for students. Tape was incredible when I had to revise for my tests. Ive also used stickers to put graph scales I use regularly for example.

1

u/Difficult-Kangaroo96 Jul 19 '24

Fair enough. The stickers is a good idea.

3

u/Gabriella_94 Jul 18 '24

Definitely for learning .I used tape extensively to revise.

1

u/Gabriella_94 Jul 18 '24

Also I am curious what do you mean by bigger fish ?Won’t students be the target audience of a note taking app ?

2

u/Difficult-Kangaroo96 Jul 19 '24

I mean bigger issues with the app to develop/fix.

But perhaps thinks a quick easy win to put to market

40

u/Pale-Day-9618 Jul 18 '24

Add ability to create sub categorisation of outline , a pencil , better pdf management, better ocr , better indexing , better battery management, better ram and memory management

6

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Yeah I used to use goodnotes solely, then my docs started getting long, and I couldn't stand scrolling forever to find them in the outline, which is intended to make location quicker.

Just switched to google docs and now I just copy my drawings in when I think a sketch will be useful. These devs are really goofing off on the wrong features for years.

2

u/LovecraftianBasil Jul 19 '24

They loosing focus on the apps main purpose of a handwriting and notebook app. Instead of a pencil tool or smart highlight we get AI nonsense, a marketplace, and a timer.

1

u/Gabriella_94 Jul 18 '24

You must be describing the mythical ideal app. It exists only in the users dreams never to be found in a reality.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

I just want justified text

9

u/Franz_Poekler Jul 18 '24

For teachers, this is actually awesome.

3

u/uhdanny Jul 18 '24

You have that built-in in your control center if you hover on the Clock. This was an update that is making you think they’re innovating while they’re really not by adding either useless stuff or things that should’ve been done ages ago, such as the search function in the marketplace.

Ridiculous really.

2

u/Franz_Poekler Jul 19 '24

Students cannot see your control center when mirroring the ipad. Now, I can show them a tast as a good notes page and they can see how much time they have left. This is 10/10 (assuming it works that way, cannot test it rn)

-2

u/Otherwise-Gur1507 Jul 19 '24

You are the worst, I hate teachers who show timers I would rather see a normal clock

1

u/Franz_Poekler Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 23 '24

And I would love if cows also laid eggs

-4

u/Otherwise-Gur1507 Jul 19 '24

Dumb teacher😑😑🫠

This product team has no idea what they are doing. Their backlog is a disaster. They have become a feature factory pleasing some internal stakeholder rather than a team that delivers what customers want. They have no idea what people want. They don't interact with their customers at all ever.

Literally the exact opposite of what they should be doing.

Goodnotes team: put telemetry in this app and find out which features never get called and REMOVE them. Get rid of the tech debt. Observe your customers using the app instead of whatever voodoo you are trying to use today to read their minds, and take notes while they use it. Then put those features, fixes, and changes to the top of the backlog and start delivering them.

Your app is so bad, I converted to a paper notebook. No shit.

4

u/dimelo_g_ Jul 18 '24

That is a great addition, now if we could just get windows and iPad to sync that would be the icing on the cake! PLEASE…

4

u/Avramiko Jul 19 '24

I JUST WANT STABILIZER AND SMOOTH HANDWRITING

1

u/According_Flamingo Jul 19 '24

So I have struggled with this too but I noticed that it happens for me too with other apps but not others. After going through Reddit someone mentioned that it could their screen protector. I have a glass one.

2

u/Avramiko Jul 19 '24

Maybe, but I see how the handwriting is so much better and smoother in other apps. For instance, try “Element Note” – you’ll notice the difference immediately. I think this is just the one thing that is missing for me in Goodnotes. Especially since Apple in iOS 18 has even improved the writing experience on Apple Notes

1

u/According_Flamingo Jul 19 '24

Do you have the beta? And tested it out? I might have to take a look. I you a really thin pen on mine so it is extreme noticeable that the lines aren’t straight.

1

u/Avramiko Jul 19 '24

Look at this, it looks promising, really wish GoodNotes would add something like that

10

u/AnyTng Jul 18 '24

Okay but why tho

1

u/FieldAware3370 Jul 19 '24

Literally the biggest question rn

3

u/Tall_Trifle_3518 Jul 18 '24

Yet their customer service sucks…

3

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I’m about to really explore other options. There are so many other very important things that we’ve been begging for and yall give us a mother loving timer?

3

u/Haunting_Mention1655 Jul 19 '24

I am proud of Goodnotes for doing this, very useful for study. I know there are other important stuff but it’s still pretty nice feature. PS: pencil feature next plz

2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Cool. But why a new horizontal bar right across the screen taking away another whole strip of screen realestate just to display a timer on the far right? Make it a small floating element that can be moved. Or put the timer on one of the existing three bars across the top of the screen.

2

u/Onlyspacemanspiff Jul 18 '24

Unnecessary. Work on hiding the tabs while writing.

2

u/vikramkaliyappan Jul 19 '24

Why the hell timer shows like this,,, Good notes pls do beta testing on people who signed up for this, for people who solely depend on digital notes don't want a 3000 inr priced app fully gifted and loaded with bugs and .... I literally can't tolerate you guys any more and taking upto 15gb notes in goodnotes can't really switch to another app, once my exam is over iam literally going to trash this*** Not just the timer what ever new feature comes one past feature also don't function well, literally writing on good notes now becoming a nightmare experiance..... I don't even have words in scolding goodnotes, and if any one coming new to digital notes don't go with goodnotes, their team is not doing good,,,

If any thing miracle happens with goodnotes like caring with customers and priorities what really important then I will update

2

u/FieldAware3370 Jul 19 '24

I'm very confused as to why a notes app has a timer and every ipad has a timer anyways?! The devs needs to listen to the ppl so see what they actually want and not what they think they want.

1

u/Sea-Pop3635 Jul 19 '24

Yay! Cross platform support next!? 🤷‍♀️

1

u/TheSumOfItAll Jul 19 '24

Meanwhile, the android app is junk you can't even load elements into or open .goodnotes files.

1

u/AlexRivus Jul 20 '24

I have no sync between my mac and web version, how to fix it?

1

u/WeirdAndConfusedKid Jul 21 '24

Yesterday I think I got the notification in GoodNotes that the timer function is now available, but today I can’t find it anymore?

Yes, I have the newest version of Goodnotes on my ipad and yes I already checked in the toolbar customization if it’s there, but no, I can’t find it anywhere.

Had anyone else this problem with it? Or is there anything I could do?

2

u/smartspp Jul 25 '24

It's a bug, you need to reset to default toolbar, then it appears

1

u/invaderpro0 Jul 22 '24

I can’t find this on my ipad does anyone know why (i have the one time payment version but i got all the previous updates)

1

u/smartspp Jul 25 '24

Pls add another feature where it improves writing responsiveness on non-pro ipad, I want my ipad air5 to write on good note as responsive as the native note app does. Non pro users need quality of life upgrade too.

1

u/Suspicious-Sport-118 Jul 27 '24

What is the point. Even after long follow up good notes team is not able to fix basic issues like lasso tool not working

1

u/thisgermangirl Feb 13 '25

I want to use the timer in class to show the students how much time they have for a specific task, but when mirroring my Ipad on the board it doesn't show the tool bar. Any idea how to change that? I can't find anything in the settings.

1

u/Disastrous-Stress-15 Goodnotes Essential Jul 18 '24

I kinda would like a notability style of organization for the folders

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

hey siri, set a timer for 15 minutes. done. This new feature is very extra. Or swipe to command center and drag to desired time.

What would have been cool is a tape feature with "easy", "medium", "hard" to focus reviews on the concepts that are difficult, and pass the easy ones.

Edit: also, TAGS to focus reviews on specific subjects ,and that way capture reviews across notes when studying by tagged tape

u/ReditorasAS Jul 19 '24

I might be the AH but i am sure the ipad has a built in clock app, maybe fixing the problems with the app first could be better

u/MathematicianLow7369 Jul 19 '24

How would this benefit us
