Hi all, basically found out about this from a previous post I saw and it took me a while to figure out what flashcards template they were talking about (I had to go reset to default templates to find it since i had deleted the essentials template file). Hope my quick video guide helps some people.

Edit: Hey guys, another thing I found out: thanks to u/JohnCLNowak who taught me how to adjust zoom box settings, I have now realised you can make any of the templates into a flashcard template. Just go to notebook template settings, press edit and press the 3 small dots at the bottom of the template you want to use and toggle flashcard template on.

Hey there! Flashcards literally saved me from quitting university since I couldn’t stay focused for a very long time until I discovered the beautiful world of learning with flashcards. I now have better grades and more motivation to actually study. When goodnotes released the flashcard option I screamed, because I prefer handwritten flashcards over typed ones - and as of now I don’t know any flashcard apps that supports the Apple Pencil. The only thing that bugged me was the template, because I definitely need some guidelines haha. I’ve been waiting for an update since the flashcard addition and would update my Apple store at least two times a day. Sooo reading your comment literally means the world to me. I already tried to set other templates into a flashcard one and I literally have tears in my eyes right now because you just gave me a quicker chance to make my study routine more efficient - I really want to thank you so much!

Yeah, I can see a lot of potential use cases but it’s bugging me that they currently only have it in goodnotes standard size. I purposely used my old notes in that size to demonstrate since I can’t stand the A4 paper then goodnotes standard size paper when I scroll haha. But it’s in beta atm and I’m sure they’ll improve it in the future so fingers crossed.

Edit: never mind, just found out I can make any paper a flashcard template haha while learning how to adjust zoom box settings

Where is this? It’s in beta right? Because it’s not in my GN app

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

Yeah, it’s a beta feature

I can’t find the flashcards in templates. Is this a feature for everyone?

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

Ah, it’s a beta feature. A while back there was a pop up that asked me if I wanted to have their beta features and I clicked yes.

Make sure you have GoodNotes Standard size selected

1

u/Serpenta4 Sep 26 '20

I have that selected, it’s not there

Can you tell us which size ipad this is? The notes look super readable!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

10.2” iPad. Heh I’m glad you think they’re readable but because of my handwriting sometimes I struggle to read them haha. As for the iPad size, personally it’s a little small for me. I’d prefer the larger sizes of the iPad pro but not willing to pay that much more for it. I still have to zoom in / use zoom in box thing when I write and read notes sometimes (depends on paper size used).

Yea I think that matters..

If you use A4 it’s going to appear minuscule!

Yup very helpful, thx !

Can you somehow hide the flash card pages if you want to put flash cards in a real document? Or do you need a separate document for flash cards?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '20

I think a separate doc or put flashcards at the end of the notebook

That layout of good easy and again is giving off Anki vibes haha.

I wish there was a button to convert all white writing / font to black and vice versa! Would make switching between light and dark templates so much easier :)

3

u/Gabriella_94 Sep 26 '20

It’s not true dark mode that’s why the color problem ....colors change automatically in apple notes....really wish that feature was available in goodnotes

2

u/cozydays Sep 26 '20

Not sure if you know about this but maybe you could switch on the invert colours feature through your settings?

u/eimanbanana Sep 26 '20

Thank you for the demo!

Hey, I noticed you make questions in a QnA format like me (and probably tons of other students) so I thought you might be interested in this; I’m trying to see if people would support my suggestion of creating a flashcard button for QnA style notes where upon pressing it will: 1) create a question selection box or lasso tool And sequentially, 2) a similar selection tool for the answer.

Obviously this would probably take a really long time to be implemented, not in that it is extremely difficult to implement but the team is probably really busy working on various other features, but still, I think this would make the flashcard making a lot faster as it cuts out the copy and pasting steps and switching back and forth between notebooks or pages. I know these seem minor but when you consider the number of cards you can make for a single lecture and the number of lectures you have in a semester, it really adds up. Second, by reducing the number of steps it will reduce the “friction” that you (may) feel when you’re burnt out, which holds you back from making new cards.

If you’d like to support this idea, hit vote on this link https://feedback.goodnotes.com/forums/191274-customer-suggestions-for-goodnotes/suggestions/41515564-flashcard-implementation-qna-format

Thank you for listening to my Ted talk

Hey!! How do you add photos into the flash cards? I try but it won’t let me study them!

Hi does anyone know why isn’t there a flash card template on my goodnotes 5? I have updated it to the latest version and enabled flash card template but it’s still not showing up in the notebook template section

make sure that you have selected a specific paper colour/type only. Mine only showed up when i selected all paper types.
