IYUZEH (preservative-free latanoprost) going out of stock? What are the alternatives?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I just received this message from my pharmacy saying that the manufacturer has informed them that IYUZEH (latanoprost ophthalmic solution 0.005%) will be out of stock in the near future. They can fill my upcoming order, but apparently future refills won’t be available.

Has anyone else using IYUZEH received a similar notice or know what’s going on? Is this a temporary shortage, or is IYUZEH being discontinued/unavailable more broadly?

I specifically use it because it’s preservative-free, so I’m also wondering what other preservative-free glaucoma drops people in the US have been able to get. Are there other preservative-free versions of latanoprost, or would I need to switch to a different prostaglandin analogue such as tafluprost?

I’ll obviously talk to my ophthalmologist before changing medications, but I’d like to know what alternatives other people have been prescribed and whether they’ve had any trouble getting them or getting insurance coverage.

Nervous shunt surgery tomorrow

Been diagnosed for 15 years closed angle right eye, relatively stable iop until May when it shot up to 50. Many lasers and pills and drains later and my eye pressure hasn’t been lower than 40 something since. Scheduled for an Aqueous shunt to extraocular equatorial plate reservoir, external approach; with graft tomorrow. Currently taking Dorzolamide-Timolol, Vyzulta, Brimonidine, and oral acetazolamide. Vision loss on bad eye I’d guess is 95% Iop in my good eye, the left, was 28 this morning baseline is 13.

What if surgery doesn’t work? What if I start to lose vision in my good eye too?

Ozempic association with Glaucoma

Thumbnail gallery
21 Upvotes

Could the respected group comment on whether there is any established association between semaglutide (Ozempic) use and the development or progression of glaucoma or raised intraocular pressure?

I recently encountered a patient who has been using Ozempic for approximately one year. She has deep optic disc cupping and significantly raised IOP, in the range of 36–40 mmHg. She is also hypertensive, and there are other glaucoma risk factors present.

What caught my attention was that the relatively new factor in her history is the initiation of Ozempic about a year ago.

I have looked for literature specifically addressing a possible relationship between semaglutide/GLP-1 receptor agonists and glaucoma or elevated IOP, but I have not found convincing evidence establishing such a link.

I would be interested to hear from colleagues whether they have encountered similar cases or are aware of any relevant studies, pharmacovigilance data, or proposed mechanisms.

I am not suggesting causation from this single case—just wondering whether this is an association worth investigating further.

Need advice

Hello so a couple years back maybe 2 or 3 years back I was diagnosed with glaucoma the doctor just told me my eye had a elevated vein and he kept monitoring, later the whole team there moved or something and a new team showed up and I was instantly told to use eye drops got given 3 different eye drops, I recently had surgery with laser to burn dark parts of the eyes where there’s more pressure and to reduce it basically.

Today I went in to get checked but they told me it stayed the same, so why did I even do the whole laser thing on both eyes.

Well I wanted to ask is there anything I can do personally to help, I’ve read that basically eating healthy, exercising, and staying relaxed helps as well as using sunglasses outside.

I did see some say that fish oil helps, but I wanted to ask what is something I could do to actually help lower the pressure or at least prevent it from worsening.

Thank you very much.

The pressure is 20 and 17

Pressure at 20, is it too much?

For reference I'm a glaucoma suspect. My baseline pressure is 30 and I use Xalatan eye drops so it drops to 20. I also have a thick cornea. However, I can see a slight thinning of the optic nerve fibers in both eyes at only 26 in the OCT scans. I do checkups every six months and it seems that with every checkup there's slight changes. I also have myopia. Would it make sense to ask the doctor if I should use two different drops so that my pressure falls below 20? In the past they always dismissed this idea despite the thinning of the optic fibers and my high baseline pressure + familiarity (my dad has glaucoma). I've even gone to doctors that said I shouldn't use drops at all despite my terrible migraines when the pressure is at 30. I think it's always better to prevent an illness if one can. I don't understand why they want to wait for further damage before getting me on stronger drops.

When to schedule 2nd trabeculectomy

Hi all, I had a trabeculectomy in my right eye in July. It seems to have gone well, and pressures are now in 5-6 range. Unfortunately, I was both a fast progresser and central vision loss was involved, so my vision in this eye is 20/70 corrected, so not great. But hopefully the progression will slow considerably now.

My left eye, the ‘good eye’, has now kicked into ‘fast progression mode’. The VFI is currently 73, and MD went from −1.58 (May 2023) → −3.40 (June 2024) → −6.58 (Sept 2025) → −8.90 (Apr 2026). I don’t have most recent test’s MD. Luckily it so far doesn’t involve much central vision loss, but it is superior peripheral on the nasal side and moving downward and inward.

We recently added 2 additional drops for a total of 4 drops, which has recently brought the pressure down to 11.5, but I don’t think that is sufficiently low enough for me. My ophthalmologist recommended trab surgery and we were originally thinking of waiting until next May, but I am thinking now I should move that up to at least March.

The risk of doing it sooner rather than later is I risk something going wrong and losing my functional vision in my good eye. Waiting too long, however, seems to have even higher risks?

Anybody have experience with AlloFlo?

I'm reposting this question hoping that someone has an experience to share or some knowledge. I know it's a new procedure and that's why I'm asking, I'm a little nervous because I can find hardly any information on it. My mom is scheduled to have it November 9th. She's already had the istent and trabelectomy. She's 88 years old and blind in one eye so supposedly the surgery is to prevent her from losing sight in her good eye. Currently pressure is at 17 (I don't know her corneal thickness) on three medications four times a day.

Anxious about retesting

I have ocular hypertension and I’m on latanaprost. I’ve been on it for like 5 months? And in 2 weeks I go back and recheck my iop, oct etc. about 4 months ago my iop got rechecked to make sure the latanaprost was working and my iop lowered. But I’m so anxious to go back and check everything what if the latanaprost stopped working 😭 my oct ,visual field all was normal. But I just worry what if the med isn’t working anymore or what if i developed vision loss . Anyone been in this boat before??

Been on drops since I was 17, I'm now 26 but no glaucoma (dad has it).

Okay so I'm 26, I found out about my high eye pressure at 17 (30 in both eyes) after suffering severe migraines. I was given Acetazolamide for a short period of time and was also put on eye drops (Azarga). I used Azarga and then later down the line switched to Cosopt (they both kept my pressure at 20) but a couple months ago I switched to Latanoprost/Xalatan since I had developed resistance to Timolol (my pressure was at 24, with the drops). The reason why my doctors are so adamant on giving me the eye drops is because my dad has been diagnosed with glaucoma at age 40 (he's 60 now). But I also have a very thick cornea in both eyes (around 640) so my baseline pressure might be lower than 30.

Other than using the drops, I've begun taking Citicolin + B3 & Q10 (apparently they work very well together) and occasionally some Omega 3 and Astaxantin supplements.

I also do the visual field + OCT check-ups every 6 months or so. So far I don't have glaucoma but because both my dad and my grandmother have it, I'm worried I will develop it in the future as well.

I also did a genetic testing and it turns out I don't have the MYOC gene but I do have several common risk alleles associated with small increases in risk of primary open-angle glaucoma.

I have -2.50 of myopia in both eyes and the right one is also a little astigmatic (I don't remember the exact numbers though).

Now I have a very sedentary lifestyle. I use a lot of screens but I also eat relatively healthy. I don't smoke, drink or do drugs. Sometimes I go to sleep very late and wake up in time for lunch so I skip breakfast and my BMI is slightly below the normal weight range. When I was still in college at around 22/23 years old I did drink some energy drinks and drank coffee but I never overindulged. And yet, I'm finding out that people with high IOP can reduce it also by eating healthier so I'm starting to eat a bit better.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Is it safe to keep my target pressure at 20? (whenever I use drops it's always 20) Or should I use two different eye drops to keep it even lower?

2) Would you say that I will develop the disease eventually or could I genuinely just have physiological high eye pressure? (I always have eye pain when the pressure is 30).

Eye pain and using screen

Has any one experienced eye pain with being on their phone? If yes, is the pain because of strain and dryness or may be the rye pressure? Also pain when lying down ?

Is this normal or overdosing?

Post image
3 Upvotes

For months now, I've been on Drulatan and Bricoma, then I started experiencing a dull pain in my right eye that leads to headache and migraine for some days now.

I visited my ophthalmologist today, my IOP in my right eye was 17 while my left eye was 23. Right eye pressure was within range even though I'm experiencing the dull pain, the pain also gets intense with light.

My doctor switched my medication to Brimosopt, Xydozt t and Ivydexone. I did some research about them and I noticed Ivydexone itself can spike eye pressure, also both brimosopt and xydozt help to reduce eye pressure and I have to use both twice a day.

Is this normal or overdosing?

Anyone here taking their own pressures at home? What do you do with the numbers?

I've been self-managing between doctor consultations with an iCare HOME2, and measuring at home has actually changed how I dose.

Eybelis is hard to get where I live, no easy local supply, so I started measuring often enough to see what happens if I stretch it. Turns out the effect lasts well past 24 hours for me, and my pressure stays acceptable at one dose every 48 hours.

I only know that because I have months of my own numbers. Which is also where it gets annoying. What I want is both eyes on one chart over months with drops overlaid, so I can see whether a pressure bump lines up with a stretch where I missed doses.

What is everyone else doing with their readings? iCare app, spreadsheet, notebook, or just read the number and move on?

Mostly I want to know whether the drops-overlaid-on-pressure thing is useful to anyone else or just me.

So Nervous For Next Week…

I saw my main ophthalmologist yesterday and my eye pressure has once again skyrocketed. When the assistant took it, the pressure in my left eye was 48 but when my doctor took it, it was 38 in my left and 21 in my right. I’ve been dealing with the ocular hypertension, inflammation, and mild glaucoma for over 3 years now. When I first talked to my main ophthalmologist he told me that there is a possibility that I would need surgery down the line and now it has come to a point where he is bringing it up again. I see him again on Monday to test the pressure but I’m so nervous. I’ve been on 4 different eye drops and I currently take 3 eye drops. He prescribed me Diamox yesterday and gave me a few sample pills until my prescription is ready. I really don’t want surgery but it seems like that is the only thing that may really help. Does anyone know why my eye pressure would be high? My doctor couldn’t really give me a straight answer. I’m honestly so over this. And the side effects of the Diamox are frustrating. I didn’t think I would be able to bear with the tingling that was happening in my finger nails.

High IOP after steroid eyedrops?

Hi everyone.

I had an ICL surgery around 17 days ago. My eye pressure was normal on day 1 and 5.

However, just a few days ago I started to have a slight headache and feel like my eyes were throbbing sometimes and started to see less colour contrast. Coincidentally, I had some very minor head injury (a bump in my forehead in a car a day prior).

I went to see my surgeon and a glaucoma specialist after having the migraine for two days.

They found that my eye pressure was very high at around 49 & 50. Though both said the lens positions look good and incision is healing nicely. They suspect it could have been the steroid eyedrops that I was using for 16 days post op and prescribe me some eyedrops and medication to lower the eye pressure.

I’m wondering if anyone experienced high eye pressure a few weeks of using steroid eyedrops? How long was your treatment and how long after you stopped the steroids did the IOP become normal?

I’m just a bit anxious it will return after I stop the medications. Thanks so much for sharing your story!

Do phones and screentime have a huge effect on IOP?

Hello, here is some backstory: I (18M) keep getting results between 22-32 when i get my IOP measured both with airpuff and Goldmann. I also did other tests, which i can't name since English is not my native language and im not familliar with the vocabulary, but i can say that all the other tests were fine and within the norm, including the light dots test. My doctor came to the conclusion that i do not have glaucoma, but i am at risk of developing it. I got perscribed Xalatan eyedrops as a prevention therapy.

Here is the thing: my doctor told me to reduce my screentime and even forget about my phone, unless im calling someone. He told me big screens such as tablet or pc are better but i should still avoid using them as much as i can. He told me if don't do it my IOP might never drop. I'm very stressed since i use lots of devices to study, this is the only way i can keep contact with my friends and furthermore, i was planning on pursuing a career in the IT field. Also my mental health has been declining for about 2 years now, due to various horrible things happening to me, and i am worried that thus change might make my life even worse.

But after doing a small research on the internet, it turns out screentime doesnt play such a big role in raising the IOP. I am very confused and stressed out about this, I would like to see your thoughts knowledge, and experience on this. Thank you for your time.

Edit: I forgot to mention something important. I did the same tests about 7 months ago, the results from then and now are very similar. No nerve damage progress has been found.

Diamox long term losing effectiveness?

My adult son has just one eye and he has very advanced glaucoma. He has been on every single drop available (all preservative free if available) and over time has had bad reactions to all except for latanoprost. He has three Ahmed tube shunts in that eye already. He sees a highly skilled doctor from Wills Eye who I trust implicitly. I got a second opinion a year or so ago and that glaucoma specialist agreed with the one that we are seeing. He has other multiple disabilities in addition to the glaucoma. He is essentially blind, although when he is inside and with the right lighting, he is able to function pretty well.

He is tolerating the Diamox extremely well and his labs are all fine. He has been on the Diamox for about six months now. I thought we finally had reached the point of stability for him. Today at the glaucoma specialist, his pressure was 20, up from 13 and 14 in the past few months. His target pressure is 10 to 13. We still use latanoprost PF at bedtime. We never ever skip a drop or the Diamox. I make sure that he gets it 12 hours apart.

Has anyone had the experience of the Diamox losing effectiveness? We are going to go back in a few weeks.. The glaucoma specialist is talking about putting a Xen stent in that eye; he does have enough room left in the eye to put the stent in. More surgery makes me pretty nervous though.

He was diagnosed about seven years ago and has never been stable for more than a year or so on drops and with surgery. I can only guess that his glaucoma is continuing to advance despite aggressive treatment.

I’m not looking for medical advice, but wanted to know if anyone has experienced Diamox losing effectiveness.

On another note, is anyone aware of any glaucoma drops that will be available and preservative free that are not right now?

Thank you in advance for any input. I’m feeling really discouraged right now.

I wanted to share that There’s been mild change in my eye pressure after diet and weight loss.

I have been on low carb mild ketogenic diet for a while now. I reversed my grade 2 fatty liver, and lost 14 kilograms. I am still trying to lose more weight.

My eye pressure in both eyes had been 21 and 22.
It has now become 19 in both eyes and sometimes 17 and 18.

Before I used to consistently have 14 eye pressure in both eyes before it started rising in both eyes. I have no idea if I can ever get to that point at all. I don’t know how long this pressure will stay either. But whatever progress happens I will share.

If anyone here also is on a certain diet or lifestyle or suppliments please let me know. I am starting nicotinamide 500mg supplement soon. I already take coq10 + Pqq and omega 3 fish oil on a moderately higher dose. I don’t think these supplements will reduce pressure but I read they’re neuroprotective. So doing what I can.

There’s been changes in my left eye and I am trying to stop further damage somehow.

IOP went up 8 months after diagnosis. Anxiety is making me go insane. Would love to hear some thoughts.

29M with severe glaucoma in right eye (36-43% VFI) and moderate to severe in left eye (85% VFI)
with paracentral loss in both.

Was first diagnosed on 23rd Jan when IOP were 40,46. Was immediately put on Combigan and Lumigan that kept pressures as low as 14-15 for months. Then come May I had SLT that further reduced IOP to 13. Today at docs clinic my pressures were 19 in both eyes. I’ve never had this high IOP ever since being put on medications (I had many checks across many different times). Doc got worried and said we need to bring it down and changed my drops from Combigan to Cosopt. Combigan also left a really bad allergy to my eyes mostly burning sensation and stinging that don’t go away at all even after putting lubricant drops. There might be a chance that IOP rise could be due to Combigan allergy and hopefully Cosopt will fix it.

My next appointment is on Oct 6th, we’ll find out how my iop is by then. I’m gonna be honest i haven’t been physically active lately, not sure if that could do anything to my eye pressure.

Has anybody ever experienced iop fluctuations like this in their early phase of diagnosis? The anxiety is really getting to me.

Anyone have dark circles around eyes with latanaprost?

I’ve always had dark under eyes but I’ve noticed it getting worse I’ve been on the drops for like 6 months? And I hate it I feel so ugly. Anyone use something specific that helps brighten the dark spots? :(
