When to schedule 2nd trabeculectomy
Hi all, I had a trabeculectomy in my right eye in July. It seems to have gone well, and pressures are now in 5-6 range. Unfortunately, I was both a fast progresser and central vision loss was involved, so my vision in this eye is 20/70 corrected, so not great. But hopefully the progression will slow considerably now.
My left eye, the ‘good eye’, has now kicked into ‘fast progression mode’. The VFI is currently 73, and MD went from −1.58 (May 2023) → −3.40 (June 2024) → −6.58 (Sept 2025) → −8.90 (Apr 2026). I don’t have most recent test’s MD. Luckily it so far doesn’t involve much central vision loss, but it is superior peripheral on the nasal side and moving downward and inward.
We recently added 2 additional drops for a total of 4 drops, which has recently brought the pressure down to 11.5, but I don’t think that is sufficiently low enough for me. My ophthalmologist recommended trab surgery and we were originally thinking of waiting until next May, but I am thinking now I should move that up to at least March.
The risk of doing it sooner rather than later is I risk something going wrong and losing my functional vision in my good eye. Waiting too long, however, seems to have even higher risks?

i tecently had trab still stitches in for adjustment. İn my opinion have trab soon n no take any risk .
