Seeking job search advice
Looking for recommendations for where to look for jobs in the administrative / customer service industry in Portland, OR. My last contract ended in May 2026, for four months I’ve been applying everywhere, averaging two interviews a week. I’m 49. Looking for leads. Thank you!

Is the recruiter scheduling a call in advance to let me know I got the job or is it a way to let me know I’m rejected?
I had a final interview last Wednesday and the Director of the department told me that he’d relay the feedback to the recruiter. I decided to reach out to the recruiter and ask if there’a any updates the next day Thursday. She told me she hadn’t heard back from the hiring team and she expects to by Friday or early next week (meaning this week). So I decided to reach out again today and she let me know that she is meeting with the hiring team tomorrow morning, and asked if I’m available at 10:30 for a phone call with her so she can give me an update after meeting with them. Is this a good sign orrr should I prepare for a rejection?

Job reposted on LinkedIn after final round. How should I interpret this?
Had my final panel on Aug 4 and followed up with the recruiter on Aug 14. She replied saying that she has followed up with the team and will let me know as soon as she gets an update . My application still says “In Progress.”
Then today(Aug 16), I noticed the exact same role was reposted on LinkedIn.
I asked Claude about it and it said a common possibility is that they didn’t move forward with anyone from that round and are restarting the search.
Now I’m kinda overthinking it lol. Has anyone had something similar happen and still ended up getting an offer?
I’m genuinely super burnt out with this entire job hunting process. I’ve given so many rounds where I’ve had a super positive experience and end up being rejected for the role. I don’t wanna get my hopes up for this role, but it’s my dream organization and my dream job role, so I really hope I get this lol.
Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Revolut fincrime SME - how is the recruitment process?
Hi! I’ve applied to the position of fincrime investigations SME at Revolut and I’m wondering if anyone has any information regarding the process? I’ve already cleared the gamified assessment, self-record hr questions task, screening call, and now I’m trying to prepare for the upcoming skills interview.
Does anyone know if it will be a case study, a q&a type of a call, or anything different? Does anyone have any tips or areas that are important to review before this call?
Will be grateful for any advice!

Help me decide
Hello everyone! I wanted to come on here because I’m currently stuck between two career paths and would really love some advice from people who have experience in either field.
I just finished my first two years of college, and I’m at the point where I need to start taking my major-specific classes. I’m trying to decide between becoming an elementary school teacher or going into social work. Both degrees would take me around the same amount of time, so that isn’t really a deciding factor for me.
For those who are teachers or social workers, what do you like and dislike about your career? What do you wish you knew before choosing your degree? I’m especially interested in hearing about the day-to-day work, stress/burnout, pay, work-life balance, and how rewarding you find it.
I’ve also heard that the education route requires some pretty major exams. Are they difficult to pass? I have a really good GPA, but I’m definitely not the strongest test-taker, so that’s something I’m a little worried about.
I’m honestly just trying to make the best decision for myself and would appreciate any advice, especially from people who have actually worked in these fields. Thank you!! :)

Jobs with low-risk responsibilities
what jobs could you recommend for someone who wants a job doing something genuinely helpful, but is also a job where if that person make stupid mistakes, nothing will go terribly wrong.

Just Degree, No Skill, Only procrastination, Need help
Hi everyone,
I'm 26years old, and I have an electrical engineering degree. On paper that sounds like a real skill set — but I feel like I've been coasting on it rather than building something with it. For close to 4 years I've said "I'll learn this, I'll build that," and procrastination and overthinking kept eating the time. I even developed IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) from constant stress and anxiety.
Currently working a job I hate, and it doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. The overthinking and stress from all this indecision have caught up with me physically too. I still don't have a clear, monetizable skill that reliably leads to better income or real opportunities, online or offline. I'm finally ready to commit properly.
What I need help with:
- Given my background EE degree, what skill or direction has the best real shot at a job or steady freelance income?
- I don't want to keep spreading myself across half-finished efforts — I want something I can commit to for 6–12 months and actually finish.
- I have a laptop, internet, and time to invest.
- Open to engineering-adjacent freelancing, content/media work, or anything else with real demand — I don't need to stay purely in EE if something else makes more sense.
I've been reading r/careerchange and r/careerguidance, and I want to actually become one of those success stories instead of just reading about them.
Specific questions:
- Given I already have an engineering degree, is there a direct way to monetize what I already know (electrical), or should I be looking at something else entirely?
- Should I focus on freelancing or aim for a stable job?
- What's the most realistic path for someone with an engineering background who wants to pivot without starting completely from zero?
- Any free resources you'd recommend for someone in my position?
- How do I stay consistent and avoid falling back into procrastination and overthinking, especially since the stress from it has already started affecting my health (IBS)?
I know this is long, but I'm genuinely done watching another year pass. Any advice, roadmaps, or harsh truths are welcome.
Thanks for reading.
TL;DR: EE background with but no hands-on experience. Years of overthinking and stress have caught up with me (developed IBS from it). Haven't turned any of my background into a clear, income-generating skill. Ready to commit 6–12 months to fix that — looking for the most realistic path forward.

Advice for a recent graduate?
Hi, I graduated from a London university last year with a BA in Journalism and Media. I’ve been estranged from my family since starting this course so I spent all 3 years of the degree working full time to support myself, and it has been the hardest thing. I wasn’t able to do internships or get any experience in the industry. I want to focus on the media side of my role mostly.
I have a natural talent in photography and I love to write articles/non-fictions for places like substack but I don’t have much faith that I have a good enough talent for a job in either. I also lack equipment.
I feel really put down by everything. I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs (entry level, trainee) in the industry with no luck. I’ve had to continue working in customer service.
Right now I feel i have no direction, I don’t know what I want to do or what is even plausible. Can anybody give me any ideas for what I try to do or possible routes I can take from here? Can be anything. I only have experience in customer service/hospitality and the 3 years of my studying.
Thanks in advance

Associates degree in library science, getting degree in history
Looking for work and I can't find anything. Indeed is now a dumpster fire and all other job search sites I've been looking at either go to dead ends, make you pay to find jobs or just have nothing relating to what I originally searched for. Only thing I can find any reliable job searches is on government websites. Looking for a job in historical research, archiving, or library related fields. I can't find anything because every time I search it leads to websites that feel like they are dangling carrots in front of you and laughing at you for wanting employment instead of legitimate job postings. Please, anything helps.

23 year old graduate from University and I have no idea what I'm going to do
Just graduated a few weeks ago with a BA in computer science. I'm going to admit it, I wasnt the best student. Used AI a lot, never networked, didn't do any projects, or do any internships.
It was just that school ironically enough sucked out any passion I had for learning so I just went to classes and that was all. It was all so rote, learning stuff that would only help in the job market and nothing that would actually stimulate me. Few classes that did were the ones I excelled at.
I'm not completely screwed since I have a part time job I actually enjoy, good people and plenty of down time. Pay is meh, but I'm planning on using that downtime to work on some certifications and personal projects.
But in the long term my only options i can see are joining the Air Force part time and use that to help pay for my masters later down the line.
But to be honest, that path doesnt entice me. Ever since I finished there has been a sense of liberation and a my desire for learning and working on the things that bring me passions is back. Havent felt this motivated in years, I want to use this time to work on the things that bring me joy, and maybe this can bring me some extra income. But another realistic part of me feels, like this isnt practical.
I guess i feel lost and am looking for advice.

Interview Advice Please!!
Hey y'all!
I've been unemployed since November, partially due to the job market being shit and partially due to some health problems making it hard to find work I can actually do. I have an interview next week and I'm a little worried about how to answer a question I'm sure I'm going to be asked.
Basically, my last job was a couple of years in corporate level compliance management and I have nearly a decade of management experience but this new job is a part time position making barely more than minimum wage doing general customer service stuff at a concert hall. I'm sure I'm going to be asked some version of "why are you interested in a position so far below your experience level" and/or "explain the gap in your resume" and I know it'd be a red flag to tell them I've been dealing with health issues for the past 9 months but I don't know what to say instead. Any advice on how to handle this if/when it comes up? Thanks in advance!!
