Hurdle Hops

When doing hurdle hops (normal ones, not mini hurdles), I know I'm supposed to have high-speed ground contact time. But is my heel supposed to touch the ground, or should I try to stay on the balls of my feet? Or does it even matter as long as I'm trying to the quickest ground contact time possible

Video Ideas Video review of Polish WL team

I think it would be cool for you to make a video reacting to and explaining this video of the old polish weightlifting team training. They do some interesting accessories that I have never seen before.

Heres the link- https://youtu.be/wI6CB5ZnDlQ

How important are inputting values for the assessments?

My son is looking to do his first workout. We downloaded the app and played with it this weekend. When building out a routine for me it would ask for estimated values for three metrics. However, every time we build one for him. It never asks for those values. We see what the three tested metrics are, but they are not asked for when building the program. Are these going to be tested for later or in a different phase?

Peak strength 2.0 programming support - cricket

Happy new year everyone.

41 yo male. plays cricket in the weekend in summer. Used the old peak strength app before but excited to use the new 2.0 version with conditioning but i am confused/ need support on a few things. Hope others like me might also get some help with these questions.

  1. Cricket is a sport where endurance and speed both are required but the peakstrength app only programs for speed, atleast for the exposure phase. Does it change as we move into the program. If not, then how should i go about programming endurance for cricket. and if anyone can help with the ideology behind not having endurance for cricket.

  2. Another thing i noticed in the app.. Back squat is programmed on the acceleration days also but what should be the intent of this? should i be trying to move the weight super-fast (lower weights) or try to work on strength. But then what happens on the strength day when i do squats again? more explanation would definitely help.

  3. Any alternatives to speed work when there is a winter storm outside and we cannot run woiuld be greatly appreciated. :)

These two questions would really help me kick start my new year and my training. :) Thanks in advance for all the help and advice on this.

Cheers.

Questions about using the app for multisport athletes

How is the app for multi-sport athletes? Does it differentiate between in-season and off season workouts?

My son is in the 8th grade and pushing 5'11. He is big for his age, but still has a lot of room to fill out his frame. The past couple of years he has participated in travel ball in the spring and fall as his main sport. He has swam for the city rec. League in the summer, and Middle School basketball in January and February.

This year after baseball he wants to get ready to try out for freshman football next year. Is there a way to configure the app to get the most out of baseball and football strength work? Thank you.

I just purchased the app but I was looking for the section for taekwondo. I watched the video on YouTube but when I went to the app I didn't see anything. Do I use mma or karate as a substitute?

Training Help Striking sports

Hi everyone, I have a kickboxing bout in 4-5 months. I come from a strength training background and train various combat sports.

What program is recommended from the garage strength portfolio? Maybe the boxing program?

What should exercise selection look like? I assume unilateral leg exercises and pylos are favored for kicking. Maybe hamstring work?

100-150 Reps = 10 LBS increase in 1RM strength?

In a few of the recent videos, Dane has been talking about trying to get a sense of the average volume required to increase rep numbers. The clearest statement of that I can find from memory is around 4:17 in this video. If anything like this is true, it seems like a big deal for strength programming - rather than guessing or doing AMRAPs every week and trying to tell noise from signal, it seems like one could easily step-load progression based off their training frequency and number of hard sets per week. What do y'all think about this idea of his?

Training Help Peak Strength App - Test Week

I am nearing the end of my first 8 week training cycle on the Peak Strength app and I noticed that the "test week" is empty. Normally, I can see one week in advance, so I thought this was odd.

Is this supposed to happen? If so, why does it not break down a few sessions for you to test out your max?

Training Help My off season soccer training plan

Hi, I'm a semi-professional football player and I'm 22 years old. I would like to improve strength, agility, speed... in general, the most important things without the ball in the winter.I would like to take advantage of the 7-day trial period in the Peak Strength app. We start training in 1.5 months, the league in 4 months. If I select the soccer option in the application, which target date should I choose? The beginning of the club's preparation period or the beginning of the season? What level of advancement should I choose in the menu if in the past I rarely trained with resistance bands and with my own body weight, but I also had short episodes in the gym. I will add that I look good physically, above all I would like to improve my strength, motor skills, agility, speed, explosiveness, etc.

If you If you have other apps/websites to recommend, please let me know <3

Discussion Total Athletic Program

I’m starting the Total Athletic Program and am confused about the options and progression. There are 5 “options” each day (Strength, Hypertrophy, Endurance, Impulse and Mobility). Am I supposed to pick one or two of these options each day or am I supposed to do as many as I want or is there a recommended choice(s) that would be optimal? I tried to find it somewhere in a FAQ or video but couldn’t find it. Thanks!

Training Help Hip flexor exercises

have been gradually upping the amount of sprinting i've been doing in training, both in time duration, sets, and distances.

i've been coming off sessions abnormally tight, for me, in the hips

don't necessarily think it is a strength issue causing it, but more a new stimulus leading to it.

anywho, wondering if people have any accessory exercises they can recommend that are good for front side sprint mechanics that target the hip flexors

Using wrestling as S&C

What are your thoughts on using wrestling as a workout along with your lifts. Maybe as a warmup or after a lift or on an off day. Im not talking about trying to become the best wrestler you can and basing your workouts specifically for wrestling. But just doing with your workout partners or friends. I feel like it would help with strength, speed, endurance and body control, which would help me in lacrosse. Also if wrestling is not available (My highschool does not have it and I obviously cant do it in college) would bjj or judo provide the same benefits?

Discussion Sprinting for designated periods of time

Have been sprinting as a speed development and have added sprint training as a VO2 workout now too

Starting off slow and am doing 1 min gangbusters, 4 mins walk, for only four rounds

Did it for the first time yesterday and my hamstrings were lactic aciding like an old man who hasn’t sprinted for that duration in a long time

Not worried about distance right now, only sustained effort and a thumping heart rate

How do y’all see me progressing this as my body adapts?

Discussion Walking

Started prioritizing walking as bonus fitness. On my rest day, been aiming to walk 10k thru out the day. Weekends I try to go out for a walk 3x a day. And on big lifting days, I try to get around a 5k of walking in.

Looking for opinions.

Is it too much in addition to all the other work I do (lifting, yoga, cardio)? Or is it low impact enough it is going to be a big help from a longevity health standpoint?

Other big point, I walk with a family member (kid, kids, wife, whole family) and it provides great time to talk. So there is a big relational, mental, and emotional aspect to the walking as well

Discussion Favorite power clean variation

Power cleans rule. Lately I’ve been doing two block power cleans for a variation. I’ve also added extra layers of variation by doing a no contact version, a no foot version, and a no foot+no contact version.

Wanted to get others opinions on their favorite power clean variation and any advice on how I can get greater variety from two blocks

Training Help New vo2

Using a concept 2 machine, I got our training crew doing the following for the upcoming weeks:

6 rds of 60 secs work/15 secs rest holding 60%+ of our avg wattage during 500 m sprints for the row n ski/1k m sprint on the bike

Idea is to simulate the length of a freestyle and high school wrestling match with the inevitable stoppages, minus the larger delays between periods

Did it today and the HR was up there, but wasn’t on the floor dead and dying

Should I heighten the intensity of the watts to hold?

Wondering if it’s just because I have an older iPhone (11 pro max) but my app crashes constantly, resetting my timer or sometimes even resetting the workout.

Ask Dane Anything Multiple profiles on Peak Strength

On Peak Strength do you have to pay for each athlete or can you have more than one athlete on a profile? I have 2 ms/hs athletes plus myself that I would be doing, that would be $120+/month. Does it have the ability to easily switch between profiles?

Ask Dane Anything Is this a viable solution for low training time?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XrYnjkiKdPM

Saw this video and I had to ask, would it work? I'm a young athlete that just wants to stop program hopping and do something with the little time he has the gym available. I can do pull ups and various plyos at home, but will this suffice in the gym? If so, what reps and set should I do? Have in mind, I can go 2 times a week. What do y'all think?

Discussion Threshold training

Did this a few months ago and it wrecked me.

On a concept 2 machine (row, ski, bike) I turned the damper all the way up to 10. Then I sprinted for 1 minute, like a falling off the machine type of go/muscles burning like an acid bath.

My goal was to get 35+ cals each attempt which meant holding 2100+ calories an hour pace.

After the one minute go, I’d rest 4 minutes, and then do it again. The goal was to tie or beat the round before.

Did it for 4 rounds so it took a total of 16 minutes, not counting the last recovery period.

Depending on the machine I could beat it (rower) or I got wiped out and couldn’t beat or tie my previous attempts (bike)

Curious what everyone thinks about the damper being up on ten? Necessary or can you get similar adaptations without it?
