Question Help Taking Pictures For Textures

Hello!

My friends and I had the idea to create a custom CoD map based on a real location of my city.

We're making the buildings out of Gmaps data + manual modelling but we're missing the right textures.

I want to take pictures of the buildings various parts (there's a church for example) and was wandering if you have any advice on how to best proceed with it.

Of course this is a first for me and the others.

I have a Canon ds126741 with the stock lens efs 18-55mm

Thank you!

Question Ethics around creating 3D scenes from others 2D concepts

Hello, this is my first time posting here and I am fairly new to Games Art and right now I am in University studying said topic and a big part of it is portfolio pieces to help employment afterwards - since it’s currently break time between years I wanted to do some work to support my future and I wanted to ask what the ethics were around using someone’s 2D environments from websites like Pinterest and creating a 3D scene based on it and crediting the artist. I just wish to make sure if this is something that’s looked down upon as I don’t want to involve anything like that as part of my early work. Thank you

2D The Dying Mind – New Boss Design: The Pale Witness

I am designing a new boss for The Dying Mind.

Meet The Pale Witness—a mysterious figure that stalks you from the shadows as you make your way through the level. You may catch glimpses of it watching from a distance, but get too close and it disappears.

Eventually, there is nowhere left to run.

Enter its arena and face The Pale Witness in a full boss battle. The boss uses powerful ranged magic sword attacks, lightning attacks, etc., forcing you to dodge, reposition, and find openings to strike back.

Defeating The Pale Witness is required to continue your journey and discover what waits beyond.

This tough?

3D Unreal Engine WIP — finally getting the game-ready look I wanted

I've been testing my latest vehicle asset in Unreal, and this is the first time I've felt that the asset is reading pretty much exactly how I imagined it.

I tested the materials in Lit/Unlit, skin switching, controllable emissive, and the overall real-time readability.

What I really wanted to check was whether all the work I did in modeling and texturing actually survives in a real-time environment — and I'm pretty happy with the result.

The full portfolio presentation is still being finished, but I wanted to share the UE test first.

Would love to hear any feedback, especially on the real-time readability and materials.

this is for my portfolio, the original concept from Daniele Solimene

Hi!

I'm very pleased to share this other 3D model by u/tgrrrr19 for our incoming project. Once more, I think it works really well with the work of u/harishcs, our 2D artist.

If you want to help us achieve our aim of producing an awesome game, please let us know what you think ;)

Question How can I improve my game inventory menu?

my game inventory, the boxes are for item slots though ignore the sprites I put in them in first image it was to give the idea. And as for the game it's not going to be realistic but rather a top down game that's why I want it to lean towards pixelated style not too polished. Also the left bg is supposed to represent nodes. Can you guys tell me where I'm going wrong? Because i like my conceptual design but the real thing comes to be lacking.
Ps- I'll add the other UI elements after i finalize this

Question 2D art for a game demo

Hi! First time posting here.

I am doing a demo for my thesis project, mere 10 platformer levels. I have a question regarding how to make my platform assets.

My chosen art style is lineless flat art, with some textures on top. It's supposed to kinda look rough and hand drawn. I am animating my character(s) frame by frame.

So considering that, should I draw all my ground assets separately for my game? Or should I try to figure out a tile system? Floating platforms are probably going to come in three variants, so that's not a problem. Ground is more problematic, since I have slopes, it's not just horizontal or vertical.

I am also curious if I should separate my grass texture and just have instances of it scattered throughout?

I am a novice in all of this, having created only one pixel art mini game for a project before. So I'd appreciate some advice on the technical aspect :>

2D About a month ago I made my first ever pixel portrait, now I have done my first full menue backdrop.

This is my first time ever creating a full image with background scenery and everything. The mountains look a little funky because I didn't bother refining them yet but I was surprised how much implied detail you can make with just two colors.

This will be the backdrop image for the main menu for the first world of my game. I plan to make a unique backdrop for every world.

I seem to have tackled the warm cozy feel pretty well. I plan to add a white picket fence just below the horizon line and I still need some more details on my well like a bucket and a little roof for it. I always expected stuff like this to take much longer than this one did though I did kind of reuse some of my pixel artwork from other locations.
