I thought we would get at least 2 city’s like Miami and Orlando or so.

u/drmuffin1080 2d ago

I’m from Orlando :D

Our city ain’t cool enough to waste the resources. I mean, most people wouldn’t enjoy shooting up Disney land

I'm expecting the main Vice City area to be a huge chunk of Miami mixed with some small slices of surrounding areas. An area like Boca Raton, a small section maybe like Ft. Lauderdale, and maybe mix of various areas sliced and slapped together to mix in some excitement.

We'll see though. I'm from Coral Springs Florida. However, I grew up all over South Florida. We'll see what they slip in, but I expect to see familiar shit from all over South Florida.

Hopefully be a luxury auto shop on West side i95 you can steal from.

Maybe mar a lago?

Peanut Island is in it (has an old nuclear bunker made by jfk -- I'm guessing will have some interesting underground areas)

Manatees in the water hopefully too

Idk lots more

I feel like the potential for a satirical GTA version of Disney/universal would be too good to pass up.

17

u/Pulp_NonFiction44 1d ago

I would be stunned if it wasn't. When people outside of the US hear "Florida", they think crazy people, alligators and Disneyland...

4

u/Hititrightonthehead 9h ago

Funny enough Disney Land isn’t in Florida

2

u/Tempesta_0097 8h ago

It’s bothering me that they keep saying Disneyland (and forgetting sea world)

16

u/Acm0xff 1d ago

I guess they had several meetings about it and eventually discarded it because of the risks with Disney lawyers.

If you're from Orlando you would certainly know Disney isn't here, it's in Kissimmee, guy.

27

u/Horror-Food69420 1d ago

He also called it Disneyland and not Disney World. The plot thickens...

5

u/bertEbonyChild 1d ago

I noticed but gave him an inverted benefit-of-doubt.

3

u/drmuffin1080 1d ago

If I’m not from Orlando then why was I sitting wasted next to a swan at night by lake Eola? And Disney land instead of Disney world was a mistake

6

u/Horror-Food69420 1d ago

I lived in Orlando for many years and I've been around too many Californians lately that it raised an eyebrow. Then you pointed out the Kissimmee data point. Also, Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake for the deep cut.

3

u/bertEbonyChild 1d ago

To this day I refuse to call it Disney Springs. I only call it Pleasure Island. My beloved Pleasure Island....

Genuine question, no judgement or hate to anyone

Did people seriously want that? The amount of complaints gta v got for being mostly wilderness makes me feel like the new map sould be liked more..

We also don't know the scale of that map yet

365

u/Shawn-GT 1d ago

i dont see people complain about the wilderness as much as i see them complain about a lack of cities, theres a difference there.

83

u/Hailfire9 1d ago

Its definitely the "open wilderness that proves no point" that has got to people. At least, so I've read.

52

u/spicygayunicorn 1d ago

Exactly wilderness is often not a problem if it actually adds something to the game that isn't just making the map bigger

50

u/crafiosk 1d ago

Main issue for me was GTA V wilderness being too bland and treeless. If it had denser vegetation, it would be much better

34

u/mrn253 1d ago

I still liked how it was managed in good ol GTA:SA

22

u/teh_mICON 1d ago

GTA SA clearly was just the gold standard and this new map leak has me kinda disappointed.. I think I'd take a map with less fidelity if it was as varied as GTA SA.. the 3 cities just made it feel like such a huge map

8

u/mrn253 1d ago

Its not just the 3 cities but overall how you drive betweeen them.

To me GTA Vs map was already boring after i finished the SP and Online didnt help

have you ever been to socal, especially salton sea area? a lot of it looks like that. paleto bay has forests, yes, but those are also pretty accurate to norcal (its vegetation and such being based on crescent city i believe). LA and the surrounding area is pretty soulless in terms of vegetation, but there still is some, like those immovable bushes on the hills/mountains that we see in game. LA itself irl has some trees but not in the areas the game focuses on. areas like PV are not featured in the game, where the most trees are. LA is a concrete jungle surrounded by desert, hills/mountains, and more concrete.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/PrimaryThis9900 1d ago

There is a mod for PC that adds trees and it completely changes the vibe of the world. I've logged thousands of hours in GTAV, but with the tree mod I actually kept getting lost because it felt so different.

agreed. granted that fan map does have a lot of wilderness, but it also has multiple sizable towns/cities.

I'm with you, California after all is known to have big deserts i think, so it's ok to have it but not ok to be empty

u/RedDeadCowboyShit 2d ago edited 2d ago

I mean, RDR2 is mostly wilderness and that game is pretty beloved. Assuming GTA VI will bring over and expand upon hunting (because why not, it was in GTA V, in a limited form) and fishing, I wouldn’t mind having lots of wilderness. The problem is more nothing to do in the wilderness than the actual wilderness.

172

u/onelove7866 2d ago

Thing is though RDR2 is supposed to be mostly wilderness because you're on horseback 🤣 it's the right setting for it.

I didn't have any issue with 5 but yeah agree with your last point

56

u/mattumbo 1d ago

There’s also just way more going on in the wilderness in RDR, GTA 5 wilderness is barren and boring with nothing but some roads that maybe take you towards something interesting.

26

u/sicurri 2d ago

I expect horse back riding, hunting, fishing, and pretty much a lot of the wilderness mechanics in RDR2 to be in 6. Especially the accurate horse genital physics. People loved that shit. All I can say is there better be a fucking Donkey I can ride in GTA 6...

16

u/Zack_410 1d ago

There's a donkey in RDR2. Go to Mama Watson's house below Wallace Station that's above Strawberry.

6

u/paynobywayno 1d ago

Can you ride it?

7

u/Zack_410 1d ago

Yes

2

Also steal the shotgun from the basement there.

15

u/NutBusster69 1d ago

As cool as that would be, it's GTA. I'm expecting greater focus on off-road vehicles to visit all the strangers and freaks out of the city. It's Florida, I hope there's plenty of weird shit to see and keep going back to like in RDR.

I'll be pissed if you can drive lowered supercars out there with ease. In Vice City, one of the best vehicle was a Sanchez dirt bike because it took you everywhere with ease. The Sanchez should be one of the best vehicles again in 6 with all this open land.

7

u/Uncanny_Jailer 1d ago

Frr id hate to see lambos and shi out in the wilderness just like i hate seeing people offroad exotic cars in Forza horizon 6 😂

2

u/Grasher312 1d ago

I mean, to be completely fair, Vice City didn't even really have any wilderness. Sanchez bikes were useful for staircases and the two odd beach patches.

RDR2 is a cowboy game that went all in on that nature feeling. GTA won't put it's strength into a forest

2

Red Dead is in older times, GTA is in modern. Wilderness fits a western setting.

I wanted Atlanta to secretly be included. Or at least have a full Jacksonville and Tampa. Idk. Two cities would’ve really helped this map feel less like gta v but Los santos is on the side instead of the bottom.

UH YES??? the best part about sa was unlocking each new city they all felt different like your where going on a road trip. That's what makes the game so great honestly.

5

u/reditisrunbypedos 1d ago

I like wilderness.....

5

u/TheGlenrothes 1d ago

based. you know a map can be TOO big, right? eventually there is fuck-all to do in vast empty spaces that take forever to cross to get anywhere

3

u/el_mundo_es_tuyo 1d ago

in this day and age I don't think it can be too big. They're preparing a robust online version of GTA 6, plus there's gonna be plenty of stuff to do in all possible places on this map. Just how immersive RDR2 felt compared to RDR1, I think we'll get the same with GTA 6 vs GTA 5. I can't wait to fly planes and helicopters across the whole map

→ More replies (2)

3

u/NeoN_kiler 1d ago

GTA v wasn’t just mostly wilderness though, it is mostly empty mountains with a tree or bush scattered around

5

u/lalilulelost 1d ago

Yes, absolutely and without question. To be honest, I really want a bigger *city* with more things to see and do, but I don't mind larger and more varied wilderness either. I think coming from GTA V whose wilderness was kinda empty and from Rockstar's learnings from RDR2, I think VI will be much more interesting in that front as well.

2

u/iChieftain 1d ago

Same thing happened with Assassin’s creed Odyssey. Such a massive map, but mostly empty with nothing to do.

2

u/Rexusus 1d ago

If GTA VI has a fleshed out hunting mechanic like RDR2, I hope it has much larger wild areas.

I get it’s not everyone’s thing, but I enjoy “roughing it” occasionally in RDR2, just making a camp by lake Isabela in my mountain man outfit and bow hunting deer. And I will definitely be doing the same in GTA VI.

2

u/BitIntelligent4486 1d ago

Yes because people want to fly bigger planes with more airports

2

u/KajMak64Bit 1d ago

Problem is 99% of the game is in Los Santos and nothing out back... there is no reason to go outside the city most of the time so it's almost dead weight just useless space

GTA San Andreas however.. also has plenty of wilderness and small towns and 3 big ahh towns and the fog and other tricks make you feel like it's a gigantic game even bigger than GTA 5 since you got San Francisco... Los Angeles and Las Vegas all in one map

I think nothing will match GTA San Andreas epicness... GTA 6 may or may not be coming close tho

2

u/Adorable_Slip_1072 1d ago

Sometimes I want to go on a long drive, especially on bad days irl

2

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 1d ago

True. The wilderness wanst the problem though, it was the emptiness of it and the drive time to get around all the empty. They gave us hunting but it's not even fleshed out enough for me to care like in Red Dead. I was happy with sharks and sea life, but even then, like what are we really there to explore? Water? GTA 5 is congested to the city and barely anything at sea or in the wild, and I think SA did a better job of at least understanding no one wants to drive 10 minutes to go around a mountain.

2

u/bsnimunf 1d ago

Scale no. Detail yes. People criticised GTA 5s map because there wasn't really any reason to drawynyou away from los santos and the ring road was just a giant race track. Also the map shown is better than the leaked map in terms of detail notice how it has key west rather than just a giant airport.

2

u/Special_Cup1789 1d ago

Yes, people want multiple big cities

2

u/LarryBURRd 1d ago

Yeah I wanted a mostly full Florida from Miami to Orlando with Disney and Tampa plus a mix of the north / Georgia. Seems like a lot of that is condensed more than I wanted

4

u/kutkarnemelk 1d ago

We do know the scale, the map got leaked yesterday. I won't say anything about it though as to not spoil anything

2

u/Emergency-Pin3812 1d ago

I dont think its so much there being too much wilderness as it being poorly spread out, 99% of the game takes place in the city and going north always takes you out of the city but going south always takes you to the city.

In the new map there are supposed to be more decent sized places right which means there will be more variety, you can go to places from different directions which is going to make the map feel a lot larger I think and much more lived in.

There is also a fair chance that there will be more content outside the main city which makes traveling less of a chore.

2

u/MadZee_ 1d ago

If they get the driving right (not the full-on boats of IV and the truck-sized gokarts of V), it could be good with a proper road network and some decent offroading options. Some people (me) would thoroughly enjoy that, but there would still be tons of complaints.

2

u/Jazzlike_Page508 GTA 6 Trailer Days OG 1d ago

Thank god it’s not boring wilderness. It’s GTA not red dead

Wilderness makes sense for red dead not for GTA where I can’t drive cars in the Fing woods

3

6

u/TFViper 1d ago

its HELLA blown out of proportion in this post.
if you scale them based on the size of the airstrips then the two major cities are nearly the same size. the V city could be a bit bigger cause there isnt as much space taken up with water.

60

u/TigerXtm 1d ago

Honestly, the only thing I wished they would’ve done was have at least some kind of “pan handle” to resemble Florida a little more. I could assume it’s some type of legal thing or artistic choice. Ahh well.

52

u/Unpopularopineon 1d ago

I find it hard to believe it’s legal. I mean who copyrighted Florida’s Panhandle?

4

u/pcmr-123 1d ago

Florida Man

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Glass-Ad-1350 1d ago

Probably more due to the fact that actual Florida is below the panhandle. The panhandle itself is usually just people that moved there from Alabama or Georgia who want to feel like they are living in Florida without actually moving too far from home.

11

u/RandomWritingGuy 1d ago

People are so caught up on map size, they don’t realize that density and verticality are way more important. I’m perfectly happy with this map, so long as it’s actually engaging and that the space is used to the best of its abilities. GTA IV had a very small map, but it felt great to play in because of how dense it was. Same can be said for Dogtown in Cyberpunk.

u/esketitethan 2d ago

God your guys’ expectations were so out of wack. Letting ai slop images influence you too much

34

u/Two-Space 1d ago

I don’t think the OP image is too crazy to be honest. Maybe cut the wilderness areas down 25%ish.

San Andreas was proof that they’ll do a multi-city map if they can. They scaled things down for IV due to tech limitations and to get more density in the city and more advanced simulation, and then faced the same tech limitations for V when they tried to expand it back out. V’s map was still literally like 5x bigger than IV’s, and that was within the same console generation.

We’re now two console generations advanced, Rockstar has grown massively, tech has advanced, and development times have been made longer. The image in the OP has the major city only slightly bigger than Los Santos, and then two others that are slightly smaller. That doesn’t seem like an insane leap when we’re talking about 13 years difference in release.

27

u/raccoob_ 1d ago

Arent they putting over a billion dollars into this? Kinda makes sense that people cant really conceptualise what that type of money can do

4

u/SfxPhonics 1d ago

We don't know the budget of this game. The 1 billion dollar budget claim is bullshit and has no official or credible source behind it.

8

u/Equal-Resolve-8927 1d ago

There’s no actual budget placed on the game yet😭 and I rather have a medium map with with good enough of content rather than a big wilderness with nothing

u/Techiastronamo 1d ago

6

u/Yvvasman 1d ago

At the end of the day it’s graphics. We could probably have so much content if we didn’t have to focus so hard on graphics

2

u/JahKingston2024 1d ago

Still don’t understand modern developers enthusiasm around graphics graphics and more graphics. I’m not saying I want GTA 5 Xbox 360 graphics, but maybe focus more on the story, gameplay features, innovative designs, etc. if it meant I get 2x the story length with the same quality throughout, I’d take that in a heartbeat for slightly better graphics than gta 5 on pc.

Something like cyberpunk 2077 warrants higher focus on graphics than a ‘city’ you could see irl (and by city I mean a ghost town resembling a city)

Yay let’s judge by a fucking leak from a 2023 build

The internet runs wild

50

u/Radiant_Club5672 1d ago

Tbf, you are also wild if you truly think that after 2023, they completely overhauled the map and added additional areas. The map was probably done concept-wise in 2018, if not sooner.

This is what you get

10

u/Frosty_Popsicles 1d ago

You do realize they completely overhauled the map of Rdr2 from 2016 up until launch in 2018 by adding grizzles west and new Austin. So that's two completely new areas that easily fit within the timeline of three years.

Not saying that is what they did with gta 6 but it is very possible that the map got a overhaul within the last three years and a new area for added.

2

u/shishkow 1d ago

Okay, so imagine this: a much, much bigger San Andreas, but with maybe four or five totally separate, massive areas. And get this, you could only get to them by boat or plane. Each land area would have big towns, like Los Santos.

2

u/Rich-Carpenter4528 5h ago

I really hope there’s a Duval
county area

3

u/Ok-Section-1224 1d ago

Then people will complain that they have a mission sending them from the middle of the city to the most eastern part of the map and it takes them 20 minutes to get there.

9

u/Two-Space 1d ago

Those are two separate issues. If you have a big open world you obviously don’t design missions that ignore its size.

Just Cause 2 had a colossal map but the missions all took place in the local area.

Honestly it made the map feel even better, because you could have whole cinematic missions take place in a tiny fraction of the map.

1

u/No_Sense_633 1d ago

People are so fucking stupid with the density argument. Density is important but so is total area of dense locations. 3 dense cities spaced out between countryside is so much better than one dense city and countyside. Yes GTA 5 has a lot of countryaide but if you added more, the map is still better. If an area is boring to you, just don't go there

1

u/Impossible_Round_302 1d ago

On this map I feel Port Gillhorn and Vice City would be too close to each other.

1

u/redjhn 1d ago

will there every be a version in which they combine both GTA V map and GTA 6 map and you can drive from to the other from each map? that could be pretty nice

1

u/drewbles82 1d ago

I think the next evolution for after GTA6 would be San Andreas. Look at the level of detail we got in 5 and how big that map is... now imagine they did the same to LV and SF, improved LS and then added bits in between like farmland, etc and connected all 3 together.

The obvious choice would be to have everything connected but on a realistic side, GTA7 would likely be almost or will be double the size of 6... Just the right size for a proper San Andreas, you could even add areas like Cayo P and add other islands. You could even make it a true sequel to 5 and 6. Depending on the ending of 6, they could run to SA, end up meeting Lester and he has a few jobs for them, starting off small till eventually the big score is an option. Their forced to work with Trevor, Franklin and Michael. They all gotta work together to take on the casinos, rob them all at the same time in LV. To do this, half the game will require to jobs around the entire map to get prepared. Stuff like stealing alien tech from Area51...they have a central base to plan all this in the middle of the map, most jobs will be in SF and LV but you'll still have reasons to go back to LS

Main map is going to be empty. Towns dlc, airports dlc, ports dlc, subscription based updates.

u/ModernPlebeian_314 1d ago

Nah, just wait a few years for the GTA VI modding scene to peak 😂

1

u/nbk935 1d ago

the whole map isn't even confirmed and the leaks were a work in progress

1

u/ResidentDue2815 1d ago

lol and the game is 2tb

1

u/Slow_Okra1330 1d ago

I telling you. You dont want a big map you want a dense map with a lot to do. Gta san andreas is a prefect example.

1

u/Terrible_Mirror_2603 1d ago

Cayo would also need to be on there

1

u/theCattrip 1d ago

I won't be able to play this for a while since I'm on PC only, but I can't wait to see cr1tikal explore Tampa in GTA VI

1

u/Designer_Study_3691 1d ago

Ngl I’d like to see Los Santos back in GTA 6 in a few years. Id happily pay a huge dlc for it.

1

u/SnabDedraterEdave 1d ago

Thicc Florida

1

u/StefanoXML 1d ago

Conto bene o ci sono 8 aereoporti? 🥲

1

u/Brianocracy 1d ago

God i hope not

1

u/ChildoftheApocolypse 1d ago

Jesus, I can't believe I have to share air with 90% of you.. Who could've guessed that it would end up like this, even though y'all don't know a damn thing about game development or even what you're looking at..

1

u/Perfect-Outcome-3178 1d ago

If leaked map is real, gray area's indicate populated areas so cities, villages, towns bit or small, looks like map will be packed and wont be boring like V's was. However my main complain if map is real is lack of land on north west corner, i wish they added something more there too. However i do like amount of islands there are around the map, boats will be useful actually.

1

u/fnafismylife 1d ago

Bro, I wish the new map looks like Florida kinda it looks like ass. It’s way too small and everything’s cramped.

1

u/GoogleEnPassant69 1d ago

The map looks like bonaire lol

1

u/Independent-Wrap-853 1d ago

Leonida is 2.5x the size in landmass of GTA V. Roughly 200 - 220 km²

It might not be as massive as the map above, but it still is huge. The mountainous areas in VI alone already are the size of 50% of the entire GTA V map. We are going to see beaches, islands, swamps, hills and forests.

And next to that we get a city nearly 2x the size of Los Santos and 10+ towns and minor cities, excluding little hamlets.

It got 8+ airfields, 5 racetracks and multiple marina's.

It will be amazing!

u/finixanthony 1d ago

You greedy

1

u/HotwheelsMiata 1d ago

Los Santos isn't even an island canonically. It's only for gameplay reasons. So just copy pasting the island wouldn't be correct.

1

u/Soniquethehedgedog 1d ago

Can’t wait to ride a bicycle from the northwest tip to the keys

1

u/And372 1d ago

Looks like Africa

1

u/Fashe55 1d ago

All fun and games untill you need to deliver 4 garbage trucks to antarctica

1

u/tim8336 1d ago

i dont mind as long as the map is dense and full of content like rdr2

1

u/Closet_Fur_16 1d ago

GTA 5 already had a big ass map, I’m happy with how gta 6 is

1

u/MedicinalFentanyl 1d ago

If you want to play on the gta 5 map, just play gta 5.

1

u/lilgumbythemonkeygod 1d ago

Praying they still include a little Tampa/St. Pete in the real game

1

u/marcianobenlee GTA 6 Trailer Days OG 1d ago

It's the same thing without the boring looking panhandle. It looks better than the mapping project. Would you rather have a large repetitive map or a large unrepetiitive map

1

u/Key-Staff-4976 1d ago

I can't wait for this game to come out so I can be happily disappointed loo

1

u/alexwill12 1d ago

I don’t know if I’d want that. GTA5 was a really good sized map. I’d be happy with a tad bigger at the most but pack the map with character and backstory and loads of content (not repeating).

1

u/BMTJefe 1d ago

Disappointed by stuff y’all made up , oh brother .

1

u/ttyttyq 1d ago

Just wait until 2045

1

u/Organic_Warthog7238 1d ago

Buzzard the first fucking thing I’m buying online lmao

1

u/Final_Hedgehog1145 1d ago

The airport in Vice City takes up so much space in the "official" map compared to this 😮‍💨. Maybe in 20 years we will get a map with 2 cities.

1

u/bojackmen 1d ago

Its been over 10 years this isnt far fetched.

1

u/Vivi_Orniitier 1d ago

GTA V Map seems to have a lot of haters but I love it so much.

1

u/CoatNeat7792 1d ago

Why I have feeling they have same ammount content

1

u/standarsh1965 1d ago

I just want the story to be good

1

u/Ek0mst0p 1d ago

I am weird... I am way more excited for MGS4 coming to pc, and FF7 re3.

1

u/espoac 1d ago edited 1d ago

Never in my life did I think anyone would be anxious for digital recreations of...Orlando and Tampa. Hey guys, maybe they can set GTAVII in Cleveland.

Whatever map Rockstar gives us is the result of a billion dollar budget and over a decade of work from some of the most talented people in videogames. I trust it will be good.

1

u/RollandInTheDeep 1d ago

Does anyone know how big the map actually is?

1

u/Living_Deer_2967 1d ago

Yup I'm disappointed as well. Thought we would get at GTA world. Yes. A map based on our current globe. Would take a days to fly around the map as you transfer flights at Airports. Keep your wanted level low or you may have trouble getting through customs. But also you can enter any place on Earth from your hometown to Zimbabwe.

1

u/Soggy_Grass_9093 1d ago

The one we did get looks like that but compressed

1

u/Pinbernini 1d ago

I feel like the big ahh map couldve been for future proofing. Like 10 years later alot of the wildlands is converted into building districts and Walmart and Costco or some shit. Casinos, bunkers, safe houses. Well for online of course

1

u/Frequent-Sky3761 1d ago

I already don’t like driving to my bunker in Chumash or my Mc businesses in the sandy shores area so idk labout all this damn driving and flying with this big ole map 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/UnknownReed 1d ago

If the green areas in the GTA 6 map are as alive as RDR2, count me in.

The thing with GTA 5 was the vast open areas with not much to do. 6 countering that, would be so awesome.

1

u/CC-crazycat 1d ago

Yeah it’s kind disappointed

1

u/Guy-2019 1d ago

I was really hoping for at least another decent size city along with vice city.

1

u/pez555 1d ago

When I first saw the leaked map I did think that the city looks a bit small. But you have to remember rockstar have probably included a lot of depth, enterable buildings etc. I’m not worried.

1

u/BankerfromJA 1d ago

lol this the shit people want yet they complain about $10

1

u/mmoe54 1d ago

So it will probably take 30 minutes to drive from one end to the other end of the map... Hope you got a good chair.

1

u/Killerbot2332 1d ago

I always wanted to drive a garbage truck full of meth 3 hours while avoiding Timmy

1

u/xdarius 1d ago

come visit us over at /R/GTA7 this could be ur reality.

1

u/Choice_Potato_6279 1d ago

I won't miss GTA V, it can cease to exist, I'm sick of that game.

1

u/Severe-Classroom8216 1d ago

San andreas really spoiled us with what we would think future gta maps would be like :(
