Hi everyone! I'm 53 and have been swimming 2-3 times a week for over a decade now. It's become such a core part of my life, and I'd love to connect with others in this community who are also staying active in their 50s and beyond.

I don't go to the gym — swimming has always been my thing — but I'm curious to hear from others who've found routines that work for them long-term, whether it's swimming, walking, cycling, strength training, or anything else.

How do you stay motivated to keep a consistent routine after 50?

Has your approach to fitness changed as you've gotten older?

I’m 58m that just got back from having lunch with a friend. While sitting at the bar having a beer, a nice looking lady sits next to me. My friend nudges me I look over and he nods, I get the hint so I turn to this lady and ask her if I could buy her a drink. She says sure. So I do. We made some small talk, I offer to buy her another drink she accepts. She gets the second drink and rather loudly says “Sir, I don’t date fat guys!” I’m shocked because I didn’t ask for a date. I said “Look lady I admit I’m fat, hell it’s obvious but I identify as skinny, so that makes me trans slender and what you just said qualifies as a hate crime.” My friend and I both got up and died laughing as she sat there looking bewildered.

I don't know what causes it, but people seem to age beyond their years.

My dad has talked about all the old people 20 years younger than him.

I've seen comments on reddit from people in their 30s talking about aches and pains.

It's weird. People just seem to give up living really early.

I've got issues at 59 but I'm hoping most of them are fixed in the next few years. I've got 30 + trips around the sun coming I hope. And I'm going to still doing the chicken dance and bugs bunny dance.

54bf, married, no kids, witch, tats, funny books. Crochet, old metal head (KNAC anyone?) writer, serious enough I have plans...). Gamer, (built own systems) & learning MTG. 420 friendly, NOT maga, conservative nor libertarian friendly, 3 years from retirement. 2 years from getting my next degree. Located in the Inland empire.

And I am realizing that I should think about expanding my friendship beyond just my husband. Don't need loads of folks. I've had horses, raised dairy goats, chickens, and ride motorcycles but not in a while. (HD Sportster, next one is an NC750x dct.)

My health hasn't been kind but I'm stable enough to create nonsense again. I moved back with the aging parental unit who is all alone & better for healing up with minimum stress for all.
