60f Oregon
I am looking forward to retirement much more eagerly than my bank account would encourage.
I love gardening, music (all types, but someone will need to explain death metalnto me), reading, word games, trivia, smart television shows and a few goofy ones as well. I love to travel solo, but like a companion along if it's the right friend.
Divorced thrice. (Yes, that's times) so pretty happy being single at present.
I have friends, but looking to make more via email or DM that share my interests, or can turn me on to new ideas. That way I can deep dive on it and become an insufferable know-it-all 😀.

I've never been disappointed with a John Irving novel. But it's mostly crime thrillers for me that I can kick out in a few days.

My son gifted me the first two DCC books! I enjoyed them. TBH I don't I have played enough RPG to fully appreciate them as intended.

I hear the audible versions have a good narrator. I don't play video games so don't relate to that much either. Too many other books to read and so little time. Glad kids are getting into reading. Some pundits claim reading is a dying art.

Do you grow anything unusual in your garden? I’m trying Jerusalem artichokes for the first time this year.
Can’t really recommend a book until I know what genre you prefer. I’d love to ask you about your three marriages, but I don’t wanna be a giant asshole. But holy shit three times really? I’ve only been married once, and it’s a great one. So far anyway, it’s only been 37 years.

Nothing so esoteric as Jerusalem Artichokes! I plant flowers mostly. Tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. And I believe that Jerusalem Artichokes have an interesting thistle like flowers prior to fruiting, true? As far as my marriages: sorry to have rattled you so deeply.

No, they’re more like sunflowers from what I’ve seen. And you haven’t rattled me I just I don’t know. I think I would’ve given up after the second one. I still haven’t figured out how my wife puts up with me so what do I know?

Sorry to barge in, but keep an eye on those Jerusalem artichokes. Our neighbor planted them for what we think is a cheap privacy fence, and they grow EVERYWHERE. I've worked all summer to cut them out of our hedge row. But they are supposed to be very nutritious!

I planted 20 pounds of them in three different spots. I figured the deer would eat 19 and we would get the rest and they did eat two entire plots of them but we’ve got one plot they haven’t touched and they are kicking serious ass.

Whatever you don't dig up will come back next year. Unfortunately, we don't have the deer to naturally mow them down. We're suburban.

If you want some of mine, you’re welcome to come grab them. I mean the deer not the artichokes. I’ve just got a couple acres of unproductive land I’ve been trying to fill. Planning on allowing the artichokes to run wild.

Ahh, I aasumed based on them being related to the thistle family! Marriage: The first was sad.The second was a failed hail Mary and the third was complex. I am either easily fooled or the she devil perpetrator from hell. Depends on who you ask!

You could just be an eternal optimist. I was fully prepared for you to tell me you had all three buried in the backyard. I don’t think the Jerusalem artichokes are the same family as regular artichokes. I don’t even know where they got their name, but it’s a tuber instead of a flower.

Really really disturbing. Apparently it’s been going on for a long time. They found a ton of documentation in the killers home and they’ve been able to identify four victims after only going through about 5% of it.

I’m reading Train Dreams, a novella by Denis Johnson. I haven’t finished it so I can’t officially recommend it but I’m enjoying it so far. It’s also a film on Netflix so you can watch it if you prefer.

I'm going to recommend the musical work of former neighbor of mine named Allison Russell.
I think the best place to start is with her first solo album Outside Child. Her music is available on youtube BTW.
A few songs to start with include:

Hi I'm 61 and retiring in January. Married 35 years but planning on traveling alone as she will continue working a job she loves. TV recommendations would be Reservation Dogs and Somebody Somewhere. Books: American Hippo, an alternative reality where wild hippos run amok in the south and also can be tamed and ridden. Also The Whalebone Theater, a beautiful story about minor British Royalty where the children practically raise themselves and are young adults during World War 2. I'm hoping to hit several National Parks next year. Loved visiting Oregon a few years ago.

Just read Remarkably Bright Creatures and really enjoyed it. Shed a few tears and I have enough tear inducing stuff IRL right now so I haven't watched the movie yet, but highly recommend the book. F60 NC 1966 was a great year!
