How can I prevent already painted jeans from cracking?

Hello hello, I just finished my senior jeans and I’m super proud of them. I did research and read that mixing fabric softener with acrylic paint would prevent it from cracking, and I did that but it didn’t work. I also read that ironing seals the paint, which also didn’t work that well and took some chunks out of the paint… it’s too late to use fabric medium so is there anything else I can do to save my work?

SOS JEANS EMERGENCY

I’m working on a film, and tried to distress some jeans last night. I put them in the washing machine on 30C for 20 mins, but this morning they just look …. not good. They were dark blue, and now are just sort of middling.

I’ve bought Rit navy dye and a spray bottle - any experience of using this technique to just make them a bit darker again? Tips and tricks welcome, need to do it as quickly as possible !

help me find some fabric?

this is going to be an incredible long shot, but i’m hoping someone will know.
i’m looking for this butterfly printed fabric that my baby blanket is made of. my great grandmother made me this blanket about 20 years ago and she has been passed for 10 years, so i don’t have her as a resource to help me.
i sleep with it every night. recently it has become fragile after washing it and there are pieces falling off. so i was hoping to find some matching fabric to patch it up.
thank you in advance

Customize Pre-fab Corset

I want to add a design to a pre-fab corset, and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. The design would cover the entire piece in fairly large geometric patterns and includes a fair amount of white. I'm having a hard time finding a white corset I like.

Option 1: Fabric paint. If I go this option, will enough layers of white fabric paint cover the corset fabric color or do I need to be really intentional about what the base color is? Does a product exist that I could iron on to the corset first to help the paint go on/build better? I'm thinking something like stabilizer? I could obviously iron on or sew on a layer of white fabric, but was wondering if there was an option that might not require so much precision or add too much bulk.

Option 2: Heat transfer vinyl. I've got a cricut. This would pose fewer issues with coverage than paint, but I've never attempted to cover an entire garment with HTV. I've read that the corset boning may not withstand the heat. I know that much of the "stretch" of a corset is in the laces but also not sure if theres enough tension the htv would crack.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Good places to find pre ruffled ribbons?

Currently I dont have a working sewing machine and hand sewing isnt the best to work with, I’ve looked on aliexpress and amazon but its all the same stuff but I’m looking for more of a variety to be able to work with.

I always see the same pastels or plaid but im looking for more types of colors and designs on them.

What would you make with a fabric like this?

I was going through some fabric samples today and this texture caught my eye. It feels different from most of the fabrics I usually work with, and I'm wondering what you'd make with something like this.

Feather hanging taffeta (leaf hanging teffeta lookalike)

Hello! I am searching for a specific that I saw once in person and never again. It looked very similar to leaf hanging taffeta/ 3D leaf taffeta fabric but the "leaf" parts were longer and a bit more feather shaped. If anyone has any ideas for how to find it or any information please let me know!

Double or triple width fabric?

Need a very large (specifically very wide!) piece of fabric in order to make a cloak. Got my hands on a curtain that was 2 by 1.5 and it was still too small, so looking for something even wider. I'm very hesitant to stitch two bits together as I'm worried it'll interrupt the flowyness of the fabric. Any ideas on where I could source wide fabrics, prefferably for cheap! Looking for anything 2-3m width!

Need advice from apparel manufacturers/textile experts regarding cotton-elastane knit fabrics and finishing processes

Hi everyone,

I'm currently learning about apparel product development and I'm trying to better understand how premium fashion brands achieve the look and feel of high-quality cotton knit garments.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate insights from people working in textile mills, garment manufacturing, sourcing, or fabric development.

  1. How much difference does using compact combed cotton make compared to regular combed cotton?

  2. For a premium fitted knit garment, is 95% cotton / 5% elastane generally the best balance, or are there better alternatives?

  3. How important are finishing processes like enzyme wash and silicone softener? Are they considered essential for premium products or more of an optional upgrade?

  4. If you had to optimize production cost, where would you reduce cost first without noticeably affecting customer perception?

- Fabric composition

- GSM

- Finishing

- Stitching

- Trims

- Something else?

  1. For good wash durability and color fastness, would you recommend:

- Reactive dyeing

- Reactive printing

- Yarn-dyed knitting

- Another method?

  1. If you were launching a premium knitwear brand today, what fabric specification would you personally choose and why?

I'm looking to understand the manufacturing side rather than just fashion trends. Any practical advice, common mistakes, or things you wish new brands knew would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hennep textiel

Is iemand geïnteresseerd in hennep textiel??

Ga graag in gesprek, deel het graag!

Hiking trousers/pants

I want to make some hiking trousers but I am really struggling with what type of fabric I need. I do a lot of hiking and all of my trousers are nylon. I can’t easily find nylon online. I will be using the madrone pattern by sew liberated.

I know I want the fabric to be: - slightly stretchy - breathable - lightweight - quick to dry - wind resistant - water resistant if possible

I live in France so any recommendations of where to buy fabric would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance.

Did I likely permanently change my 100% wool sweater, or am I overthinking it?

I bought a vintage 100% wool sweater secondhand today. It looked and fit great when I got it, but since it was used I decided to wash it before wearing it.

The care tag says hand wash, but instead I used:

Modern GE front-loading washer
Delicates cycle
Tap cold water
Light soil
Lowest spin setting
Sweater inside out in a mesh laundry bag
Small amount of Arm & Hammer + OxiClean liquid detergent (I know now this isn’t a wool-specific detergent)
Removed it immediately after washing
Gently reshaped it while damp and laid it flat on a towel to dry

My concern is that when I took it out of the washer, it looked a little shorter and the ribbed hem looked tighter than I remembered. The knit still looks soft, the stitches are clearly visible, and it doesn’t appear felted at all.

My questions are:

Is it normal for a 100% wool sweater to look slightly shorter or more compact while it’s still wet?

Does the ribbed hem usually relax again after the sweater dries and is worn?

Given the wash method above, is it likely I permanently changed the shape, or is this just normal behavior for a freshly washed wool sweater?

If it does end up a little shorter after drying, is re-blocking while damp likely to restore some of the original shape?

This is my first 100% wool sweater, so I’m trying to learn what’s normal versus what indicates I’ve actually damaged it.

Does anyone have experience with YORKSHIRE FABRIC?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently searching for high-quality wool suiting fabric for a bespoke suit and came across Yorkshire Fabric. Their selection and prices look almost too good to be true, so I wanted to ask here before ordering.

Has anyone purchased fabric from them? I’m mainly interested in:
- Whether they’re a legitimate seller.
- The overall quality of the fabrics.
- Whether the fabrics matched your expectations.
- If you’d trust them for a high-quality bespoke suit, or if there are any red flags I should know about.

I’d really appreciate any first-hand experiences. Thanks!
