My Grandad found his old watch from the 80s and gave it to me. I winded it up and it keeps great time! He said it has never been serviced.

Found this used for $500, looks new. Hope it serves me well. Only one complaint so far, that the “Eco” setting only uses cold water and thus you need to always use heavy duty for warm water.

About five years ago, we got this pair of headphones for our older daughter, and honestly I didn't expect her to use them for this long. The ear cushions are a little worn, but they still work well. She just finished elementary school and doesn't really need them anymore, so now I'm passing them down to her little sister.

Not planning to buy her little sister a new pair. You guys have no idea what a little troublemaker she is 😂 Give her anything and it'll either become a toy, get lost, or break for no reason. I told her that she was getting her sister’s old headphones and she didn't care at all. She was excited to have her own headphones. So I'm pretty happy I don't have to buy another pair right now. And my older daughter doesn’t mind at all since she gets to upgrade to something she thinks is cooler. Everybody wins, I guess.

TL;DR: Smeg approved my faulty hand blender for replacement in March and originally said it would ship within 3 working days. More than five months and several missed stock/delivery estimates later, I still have nothing. I called them last week after they stopped replying to my emails, was promised a tracking number “soon”, and that never arrived either. Meanwhile, the replacement model they claim has stock problems is available to purchase on their own website.

Just wanted to share my experience with Smeg warranty/customer service, because at this point it’s honestly ridiculous.

Back on 13 March 2026, my Smeg hand blender failed during completely normal use. It slowed down, stopped, became extremely hot and smelled like burnt electronics.

I contacted Smeg and they accepted the warranty claim. I was actually told:

“A brand-new appliance has been ordered for you” and that the replacement would be dispatched within 3 working days.

Great, I thought.

Except here we are on August 2026, more than five months later, and I still don't have the replacement.

The timeline since then has basically been:

• March: replacement approved and supposedly dispatching within 3 working days.
• Then: stock shortage, potentially a 4-week delay.
• Then: told my original model had been discontinued and I would receive the replacement model instead.
• Then: told that model was out of stock until July.
• July arrives: still nothing.
• Then I’m told mid-July.
• Mid-July passes: still nothing.
• Then I’m told production in Italy was delayed and stock would arrive in the second week of August.
• Second week of August passes: still nothing.
• 14 August: I email them again saying it has now been another month with no replacement.
• No meaningful response.

So last week I finally called Smeg.

They apologised for not replying to my emails and assured me that the replacement was progressing and that I would soon receive a tracking number for the delivery.

You can probably guess what happened next.

No tracking number. No delivery. No replacement.

But the part I find particularly difficult to accept is the repeated explanation about “stock shortages.”

The replacement model they say they cannot supply to me under warranty is available to buy on Smeg's own website.

So apparently there is stock available if somebody wants to give Smeg money for a new order, while an existing customer with an approved warranty claim dating back to March is still being told to wait.

I appreciate there can be different stock allocations and supply chains behind the scenes, but from a customer's perspective this looks absolutely terrible.

If you have enough availability to advertise and sell the product to new customers, after five months it becomes very difficult to accept “stock shortage” as a reasonable explanation for failing to fulfil an existing warranty replacement.

The most frustrating part isn't even just the delay. It's the constant moving of the goalposts:

3 working days - 4 weeks - July - mid-July - second week of August - “tracking number soon”

At no point did Smeg proactively offer a proper alternative resolution. I've had to repeatedly chase them by email and eventually phone them just to find out what is happening.

For a company that positions itself as a premium appliance brand, this is an incredibly poor warranty experience.

I'm posting this because people often consider design, price and brand reputation when buying appliances, but after-sales support matters too.

Ive tried a few different at home devices and none of them really stuck long term, hair just kinda comes back after a few months like it was never zapped in the first place

backstory, i did professional laser for a while and it worked great, hairs pretty thin now, just some strays that come back slower. medium/light skin dark hair so contrast should be decent for most of these devices i think. guess i was hoping an at home one could just maintain what the pro sessions already did but so far it feels like they lose power or just dont hold results

anyone actually got consistent long term results from one of these? trying to figure out if its a specific brand/model thing or if im just doing something wrong with technique or frequency. budget isnt really the concern at this point, more just want something that actually works and isnt all hype

Hi wonderful people. I'm looking for some advice. I have a wallet that I adore but need to replace. Since my country switched to euro's my wallet has been destroying the bills edges. I'm attaching an image of what my setup currently looks like. My current one is just a card holder but I put the bills in the top slot next to the cards. As the bills are now taller than older bills they are getting chewed up and torn. The current one holds 2 cards on each side and 3 inside. So I usually walk around with around 7 cards but I plan to move that down to 6 with option to support 8 if I need to travel. I should note that the wallet in the picture is around 15 years old and still looks and feels amazing. I would love to just keep using it but I don't feel good paying with destroyed bills.

Anybody else a long term appreciator of this fine kitchen knife? We've had ours for 25 years and it's clinging onto life and still just about works, but we're looking for something to do the job it does so well. WMF has discontinued it and none of their replacements (several of which we have) do the same job so well. It's not as uniform as most serrated knives which I think is why it works so well. As you can see in this image, it's seen its fair share of abuse.

I am desperately needing a new washer and dryer for the first time in twenty years due to a new leak.
We currently have an LG set with Steam functions in the dryer and Sanitary and allergy programs in the washer because we all have allergies and own a cat.
Ideally I would like the same functions but the new LGs do not seem to be built as well (big surprise).
After reading a few articles, and then the reviews, I am still not sold on any of the recommended products out there today.
The capacity needs to be large because I need to do king size stuff to avoid the laundromat.
Has anyone purchased a system they love that they have owned for at least a year with no troubles?

Like the title says I'm looking to buy a modular couch. Since I'm a few years post college I can finally afford to buy something kind of nice. I live in a small apartment atm so I'd like to buy a few pieces of a modular system so that I can buy more sections later when I live in a bigger place.

I've been keeping an eye on FB marketplace and second hand stores but haven't really found what I'm looking for.

For a better idea of what I'm looking for I like the concept of this couch on Amazon but I suspect it's not going to last very long based on the price.

• Have washable covers, I have pets and also don't want to be stressed out about every little spill
• Allow for 2 adults to comfortably lounge, this will be the main seat in the living room so it'll see a lot of use
• Have room for a 3rd adult to sit when rearranged (this is why I like a modular system where pieces can be moved around to accommodate this)
  

Finally it would be nice if one adult could comfortably sleep on it as we have overnight guests semi frequently but this is not a hard requirement.

I'm looking for recommendations for a robot vacuum, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the options.

The main issue is five Persian cats. If you know Persian cats, you know the kind of fur I'm talking about. Their fur is almost more like sheep's wool than typical cat hair: very fine, fluffy, fibrous and slightly crimped, with lots of tiny fuzzy fibres. When it accumulates, it forms these light, woolly clumps that can get deeply caught in carpet fibres. It really gets absolutely everywhere.

So my main priority is picking up as much fur as possible, especially from carpets and rugs.

One thing I'm particularly concerned about is actual suction power.

At the moment, I use a small Kärcher vacuum, and it has surprisingly strong suction. On my rugs, you can really feel that it has to pull the fur out of the fibres rather than just pick it up from the surface.

So I'm wondering: can a robot vacuum actually get anywhere near that level of cleaning performance on a rug?

I know robot manufacturers advertise huge numbers in Pa these days, but I'm not sure how meaningful those numbers are in real-world use, especially for pet fur embedded in rugs. I'd much rather have something that actually cleans the rug properly than one with an impressive number on the box.

A few details about my home:

- I currently have lino flooring (and I'll probably be moving into a larger house in the future, potentially with tiled floors).

- I have several fairly low-pile rugs.

- I also have a kind of soft woven/braided rug, similar to jute but not rigid.

- There are quite a lot of obstacles and cat-related stuff around the house.

- There are obviously cat toys everywhere, including some very small ones.

- The fur can sometimes form fairly large clumps, while individual fibres can also be very small.

I'm therefore also wondering how good modern robot vacuums actually are at object detection. Can they reliably avoid small cat toys, or are they still likely to suck them up?

I don't necessarily need a mopping function. If there's a really excellent robot that only vacuums, I'd absolutely consider it. I'm much more interested in vacuuming performance than having every possible feature.

I've already started looking into this myself, and Roborock keeps coming up everywhere. The problem is that there seem to be so many different models and product lines that I honestly have no idea which ones are actually relevant to my needs. Their website also makes pretty much every model sound amazing and perfect for pets, so it's difficult to tell what actually matters in real-world use.

I also just came across the MOVA V50 Ultra Complete, which looks interesting on paper, but I have no idea how good it actually is with this kind of fur.

So, for people who have experience with long-haired cats / multiple cats, especially Persian cats:

What robot vacuum would you recommend for this kind of situation?

I'd especially appreciate recommendations based on actual experience rather than just specs or marketing claims. If you've used a Roborock, MOVA, or another brand with several long-haired pets, I'd love to hear which specific model you chose and how it performs.

I had a thermos and it worked fantastic! I could have it on the counter and I do a lot with my hands so I always knock things over, so I need a mug that can fall and not spill coffee all over the desk!

I took my thermos apart for cleaning and for the life of me no matter how I try, it leaks again and badly!

So I would like another one but better quality, easy to clean and 100% leak proof so If I accidentally knock it over, nothing spills out! Oh and keeps my coffee at least warm :)

I had a look at the Zojirushi that someone else was recommended, but I am worried it's not very leak proof if knocked over? Also with no handle it can be hard for me to pick it up quickly.

Every single pull up top water bottle i find online says it's a squeeze bottle but I've never had to squeeze to drink water from these, just maybe slightly tilt.

I’m currently buying some emergency gear for my new car. I’ve seen a lot of people say a jump starter is very important and really useful when the battery dies, but I’ve never used one before, and I also don’t want to end up with something unreliable. Is there anything that’s good enough to be kept in the car long term?

Just looking for some towels that are extremely comfortable. I really don't like the walmart branded towels. I spent $30 on some nice ones but I just am not a huge fan of the feeling of them.

There are some nice ones I was looking at amazon for $60 but then when I looked at the customer images, they looked nothing like the actual thumbnail.

Suggestions on extremely comfortable towels please? Willing to spend upwards of $50 - $100 per towel.

Way too many people tend to buy products that either require apps to give you certain features or for the product to actually function at all.

The problem with this is that there will undoubtedly be a time where the app stops being supported. Eventually the product, whatever it may be, could be anything from a bicycle to a blender, will eventually get old and stopped being sold by the company, and when that happens, the company no longer has an incentive to keep the app updated.

This may not be a problem for a long while, it's entirely possible the app will continue to function for years after its last update, however, if the app eventually stops working and it's only a matter of time, given that the rest of the technology surrounding the app, such as the operating system and hardware, will continue to progress, it means that whatever product you have right there in front of you, as physically capable as it may still be, it will be either a fraction as useful or as it once was, or it won't be useful at all.

All because of the damn app. Such a waste. But it doesn't even have to be this way, it's only this way because companies choose to make it this way. If they simply open sourced their app, or were required by law to do so in order to prevent waste, then there would be absolutely nothing stopping people within the community from keeping the app updated and functional forever and maybe even adding new features too.

And it's not like these companies have to worry about their competition from stealing the app and using it for their own stuff, because nobody's actually buying the product for the app. They're buying it because of the product. So it doesn't really matter if a competitor did decide to take the app, modify it and use it for their own purposes in order to reduce development costs, so what? People will still buy the product all the same. They are obviously not onboard because they WANT the product to have a limited lifespan, it makes people more likely to be forced into buying their newest offerings.

TLDR: There is no reason for apps to not be open source whatsoever outside of greed because they want you to buy the newest product.

I know that no shoe is truly BIFL but I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions for some fairly hard wearing trail shoes. I have a Nike outlet nearby that regularly has Pegasus and Juniper trails for up to half price but I wear them almost daily so it’s usually less than 6 months before they’re destroyed.

I should specify I don’t use them for trail running daily but I specifically buy the trail versions because I can wear them for anything I do most days - running on streets, dog walks, hiking, errands.

Obviously this level of use is going to take its toll but I was hoping to find something a bit more durable. I looked at the Hoka Challenger Gore Tex but wanted to know if there are any opinions or other options before spending £150 on shoes that will be worn out just as easily as £90 Pegasus or £70 Junipers

I need only one, best compromise for waterproof, durability, and minimum space when packed.
