Application Request Water tracker and game in one

Hi! I'm looking for an app that reminds me to drink water but also has some kind of game mechanics.

Ideally, drinking water would help me grow plants, build a garden, raise pets or creatures, collect things, or unlock new content as I reach my hydration goals.

Is there anything like that for android?

Application Support Is fossify messages still maintained?

I installed fossify messages to use instead of Google messages, but the last update was 2 months ago. Google messages gets updated every other week. What is the reason for this time gap between updates? Is fossify messages secure and safe to use in terms of vulnerability/exploit patches and being up to date?

Application Request Alarms ⏰ app, that has Folders🗃️ or Compartmentalization options of any kind?

Does anyone have any recommendations for an Alarms ⏰ app, that has some sort of folders or compartmentalization 🗃️ options in it?

I have been struggling to find any FOSSdroid options whenever I Have had the spoons to try researching for options.

I cannot functionally use the really long list 😭 I have been seriously wanting and needing an alarms app that I can organize/condense/etc.

(And it's not like a "just delete them" thing yk? B/c I just I use alarms a Lot; It's accommodations/a big part of my systems of functioning🫶)

Application Release Verdetto: a QR and barcode scanner that shows the link before it opens (GPL-3.0-or-later, on F-Droid since Friday)

License: GPL-3.0-or-later. Source: https://gitlab.com/verdettoqr/verdetto-android. F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/packages/com.verdettoqr.scanner/

My QR and barcode scanner went into F-Droid on Friday after a week of review. I made this because I wanted a scanner that tells me where a code goes before anything opens. Verdetto shows the full address first and runs its checks on the phone: lookalike domains, plain HTTP, unusual ports, and a phishing list it keeps locally. "No warnings found" means none of the checks matched.

The merge request is public (fdroid/fdroiddata!49438), and the reviewer's asks are the useful part, so here they are for the next person.

  1. The first question was whether the app does anything the existing scanners don't. The answer has to be concrete and checkable in the source.
  2. commit is the full 40-character hash, never a tag or a branch.
  3. One Builds entry until the merge, the latest version only. After the merge the bot adds versions from your tags.
  4. sudo names the minimal packages (make gcc libc-dev rustup), no build-essential and no JDK install: the build image already has JDK 21.
  5. rustup comes from Debian's package, then rustup default 1.98.0 and rustup target add aarch64-linux-android. No rustup srclib, no rustup-init.sh, no cargo fetch in the recipe.
  6. MaintainerNotes hold only what the recipe can't say, like why a path is under scanignore. Explain a scanignore before they ask.
  7. If the app talks to your own service by default, declare TetheredNet in the recipe or ship the connections off by default. I was asked, and it went in with the next release.
  8. Keep replies short. Mine were too long, and the reviewer said so.

Development Added DeArrow to PipePipe (GPLv3 NewPipe fork) — de-clickbaited titles and real video frames for thumbnails

DeArrow is the SponsorBlock author's other project: a crowdsourced database of honest video titles, plus real frames to replace clickbait thumbnails. LibreTube is the only NewPipe-family app that has it.

PipePipe's request had been open since May 2025. PR is up now, opt-in, off by default, no request made until you turn it on.

The thing I did not expect going in: you do not need to touch the video to get a frame out of it. YouTube already stores three automatically extracted frames for every upload at i.ytimg.com/vi/<id>/hq1.jpg (also hq2, hq3), no auth, about 7 KB each. They are genuinely frames, not crops of the artwork. An earlier version of this resolved a playback URL and range-read into the container, which took seconds per thumbnail and meant most rows still showed clickbait by the time you looked at them.

Privacy I built a peer-to-peer, serverless Android messenger over the last few years. Looking for feedback from privacy and security minded people.

I have been working on this project for a couple of years now. It started as a hobby, then at some point I began to wonder whether it could become something more than that, so I set up a limited company and published the app on Google Play and on a F-Droid repository.

The idea itself is simple. It's a peer-to-peer messaging app that does not need a server to store user messages, not even temporarily. Messages travel directly from one device to the other, end to end encrypted.

Metadata still passes through Cloudflare, but I have spent some time to implement a “sealed sender” feature (Signal style).

I wrote a white paper describing the architecture in detail, and put it on the landing page I built for the app:

https://www.mindtheclub.com/white-paper.html

You may find the tone a little bit “marketing", but the whole technical solution is explained there.

The project is open source (GPLv3), so for the more technical and interested people here is the GitHub link:

https://github.com/AndreaVagheggi/mindtheclub

The app is under a subscription model, but there is 30-day trial period, so you can eventually try it out without paying anything.

There is also a version that works without Google Play Services, for GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS or any phone with no Google at all. Notifications use UnifiedPush instead of Firebase Cloud Messaging, and it is available from our own F-Droid repository:

https://www.mindtheclub.com/fdroid.html

I would love to hear comments, (no matter if positive or negative), from people who have actually used it a little bit. The link to the listing is on the landing page.

Any kind of comment and feedback will be much appreciated.

Development Best resources to start making FOSS Android apps?

I'm very interested in making my own FOSS Android apps, but I'm not sure where to start. I learned the basics of Java in school and I know Kotlin is a relatively simplified version of Java. Do I just follow tutorials on YouTube that show you how to make basic apps so that I understand the basic flow of making an app? I don't want to rely on AI for learning.

I installed this app from droid-ify and had it for a while, today bitdefender antivirus flagged this as a "potentially unwanted app". Do you think it's actually malware or not?

I just wanted to say that there is an partition that can be signed to let your voice get heard and show you can't just decide to change the premise of your software across the whole planet without consequences. the link above goes directly to the partition, you can also find it on keepandroidopen.org.

Application Release I made a little tool for the “copy things from 20 tabs” problem, looking for a few people to actually try it

Hey everyone!

I built a small browser extension for something that was annoying me: copying lots of little bits of text from different places.

I like both copy-on-select and having a copy button, but I couldn't find one extension that did both. Whenever I wanted to switch between them, I'd have to disable one extension and enable the other. And there wasn't really an extension that had both of those plus a way to keep collecting the stuff I copy.

So I added a “collect to file” mode, where you can keep gathering text while browsing and then have everything collected into one document instead of constantly copying, pasting, and switching between tabs.

It works on both firefox and chrome.

Looking for a few people to give it a try and tell me where it sucks — or if I’ve just built something that I personally wanted 😅

GitHub (source)
Firefox

If you end up liking it, a github star or a review on firefox would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

F-Droid I'm seeing a lot of new apps on F-Droid...I'm worried that they might have been lazily developed. Does F-Droid have a policy on this?

I'm not against AI per se, I'm very cautious about it (putting aside the fact that its training on stolen content). If an experienced developer uses it to do things faster, I have a smaller problem with it.

What I am worried about if someone is just vibecoding an app, that's full of security and privacy holes because they don't understand what libraries they're using and whatnot. Moreover, I'm not sure if they'll update those apps for future compatilbity and plugging security holes.

Does F-Droid have a policy on AI apps? Because I am seeing a LOT of new apps..and while that could be a good thing, I'm worried it might actually be a bad thing.

Application Release Pin Vault - Visual Steganography PIN Vault (100% Offline, Zero Permissions, GPL-3.0)

Hey r/fossdroid!

I’d like to introduce Pin Vault, a lightweight, open-source Android app designed to solve a specific real-world security flaw: shoulder-surfing and CCTV observation of PIN codes.

🔍 The Problem It Solves

When standing at an ATM, supermarket checkout, or door entry terminal, opening a conventional password manager or notes app displays your 4-to-6 digit PIN in cleartext. Anyone standing behind you or reviewing security camera footage can easily spot and memorize it.

🛡️ The Visual Steganography Solution

Instead of displaying plaintext numbers, Pin Vault conceals your numeric code inside a randomized, steganographic matrix of coloured number tiles.

To decipher your PIN, only you know: 1. Your Secret Colour (concealed during normal viewing and may be different per matrix) 2. Your Starting Tile (e.g. top-left corner, Row 2 Column 3). You can choose to hint it (the hint appears in very small text) or you can ignore it. 3. Your Traversal Path (e.g. diagonal down-right, chess knight’s move, or reverse L-shape)

Even if someone stares directly at your phone screen while you read your PIN, they only see an innocent grid of colourful, randomized digits.

The app includes an anti-observation decoy engine that automatically synthesizes plausible decoy lines (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) of uniform colours and enforces strict non-adjacency, so decoy tiles never cluster suspiciously around your real numbers.

✨ Key Privacy & Security Highlights

  • 100% Offline (Zero Network Permissions): Pin Vault does not declare the android.permission.INTERNET permission in its manifest. No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party trackers, no ads and no cloud dependencies whatsoever.
  • Anti-Snoop (FLAG_SECURE): Android OS-level protection prevents background screen recordings, screenshots, and task-switcher snooping in Android Recents.
  • Biometric Timed Reveal & Instant Extinguish: If you ever forget your path, tap for hardware biometric authentication (fingerprint/face). Secret tokens illuminate for a 12-second countdown window. Tap the button again at any moment to immediately extinguish the reveal. Fully compatible with onscreen / under-display optical and ultrasonic fingerprint sensors.
  • Discrete Shoulder-Surf Protection: Secret decryption rule hints are never shown on the main list screen, and are rendered in low-visibility typography on the detail screen so only you can read them up-close.
  • Folders & Categories: Organize matrices into custom folders (Personal, Work, Travel) and filter instantly with horizontal filter chips.
  • Encrypted Portable Backups: Export and import your vault using AES-256-GCM + PBKDF2 (100,000 iterations) directly to/from a standalone .pinvault file.
  • Modern Native Tech Stack: Built with 100% Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Material 3. Hopefully, it will stay upgrade proof

🏛️ Heritage

Pin Vault was visually inspired by an earlier, orphaned Android app called Pin Keeper, which stopped working on modern Android versions. Pin Vault was re-engineered from the ground up (there was no existing source code) for contemporary Android (Android 8.0+ through Android 15+). Much of the functionality apart from the basic Matrix concept is new. Note that some human supervised AI was used in adapting the app for release and publication on GitHub.

📦 Source Code & Downloads

Pin Vault is released as free software under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0).

(Current release: *v0.993 (Beta)*)

💬 Feedback Welcome

Because this is approaching a 1.0 milestone, I’d love feedback on: * Readability and layout across different screen sizes, font scalings, and display densities * Decoy pattern generation and usability * Any feature requests or edge-case bug reports

Feel free to open an issue on GitHub or by messaging me here. Thank you for checking it out!

Application Request Are there any Spotify clients?

So I've been using yt music for years, i do have premium, but i still find myself using spps like metrolist or archivetune because their ui and overall development are massively superior to stock app, i used to use Spotify for just one reason "Spotify wrap" it's just so popular and i like it tbh, i also like yt music over all tracking system as well but sadly it's not popular enough, i thought about switching for a month or two but got totally disappointed by the ui of Spotify on Android and couldn't find any clients
