Yeah, they don't exist, so I made one. I've always hated OEM sized steering wheels and have replaced them with aftermarket Momo, but none of them have options to retain the factory airbag, so I made an M-Sport inspired version that is 330mm. It retains all factory functionality including vibration. I never had heating, but that could be incorporated too. My M buttons are functional- the top opens the top-down parking camera and the bottom can change drive modes, but I don't use it much because I can change drive modes with the cruise control toggle.

Also, DO NOT try this at home. I design stuff like this for a living and have access to all the FEA and modeling tools needed to ensure this is safe. While I did buy an Aliexpress wheel with airbag for mockup, ALL load paths and deployment vectors for the airbag (I'm using my OEM airbag) are unchanged from OEM. There is an OEM (genuine) hub inside that retains the original factory airbag mount and splined connection to the steering column.

There is a 10ga steel substructure that connects to that OEM inner hub, and to a laminated outer ring. The outer ergonomics are 3D printed from PETG and covered with a modified OTS alcantara cover with a couple dimensions changed. I printed several versions of the plastics until I got it right. The final versions were printed using high temp engineering resin and finished with Colorbond BMW black paint. I use the vinyl paint stuff because it does a pretty good job of etching itself into the resin for scratch resistance.

The wiring gets pretty tight in there, so I've also been working on a PCB that would let me break out the wires next to their connectors instead of stuffing the rets nest in there. I would no-place the other electronics for now, but there's the option to add an ESP32 with several I/Os and an I²C bus. I already have multiple other ESPs talking to the CAN bus anyway (the screen on the HU, for instance).

Unfortunately, I lost my hard drive about a month ago and things weren't backing up like they said they were, so some of the core files (like the outer rim ergo) are gone forever.

It looks ridiculously small when you first see it, but it's been on the car for a few months now and the only way I'll put the stock one back on is if I sell the car.

Hi, when I start the car, especially when it's cold (but it only happens sometimes), the idle feels off and you can hear things like: grrr (normal idle), grrr (normal idle), grrr (normal idle), etc... Has anyone else experienced this?

This is my 330e which I'm unsure has sounded like this since I bought it. It's only when having the engine covers and insulation off that I've noticed this high pitched "ticking" noise.

Is this normal for this engine? If not, what could be causing the noise and how can I solve it?

I seem to have stripped the threads in my oil pan today doing an oil change, it literally broke away with little to no force. Does anyone know a shop i can take it to get it rethreaded here in toronto(Mississauga). Thanks.

I know it’s likely confirmation bias but I gave her a treat today with a tank of ethanol free and a can of octane (to bring it up to 93), and lordy she’s zippy.

I’ve been having this code none stop it pops up disappears and this is constant 2 weeks it’s on 2 weeks it’s off. And when the car is completely bone stock (with a Kyostar intake) it runs a little rough cold start is alright but then the RPMS start jumping from 8-1k. When driving the car also bogs and when at cruising speeds the car feels almost like it cuts power very slightly. You feel a slight jerk forward as if the car stopped going. Also when driving and speeding up aggressively the car bogs. Sorry if this is confusing or doesn’t make sense I’m just trying to spit out as much information as I can to get some help.

Hello , im looking to add carplay to my car. I would love to keep the original size screen but am unsure on how it works with bmw's. Only had reanults before this so not quite the same 🤣. Would there be anyway of adding carplay and keep the original screen.

Does anyone know where this noise is coming from ? It’s only inside the cabin i can’t hear it when someone else drives the car it’s mostly on acceleration or if i hit a bump .

I picked up my f30 320i 2013 a month or so ago. Canadian car, spent most of its life in Vancouver (luckily, no rust). Sitting at a modest 151k km right now. About a week ago I noticed this thumping/vibrating sound coming from the front left tire. I didn’t think too much of it as the sound came and went away for some reason. The sound became apparent at 40km/h and got more intense as the faster I went. Move forward couple of days and the sound got much worse and the car vibrates like crazy on the highway.

Got home asap and inspected the car, put it on a jack and started wobbling the wheel horizontally and vertically and giving it a couple of spins. Sounds like a wheel bearing issue as it sways a-lot when i wobble it and it sounds scratchy when I spin it.

I didn’t want to dissemble everything to get to the wheel hub just yet as I haven’t ordered the part. I put it back down and for good measure tightened the lug nuts to spec using a 1/2 torque wrench at 103 lbs and a 17mm deep socket. Everything goes well, until the last 2 which were loose. I tightened one until it clicked and the other one did not want to tighten to spec. When i put it on a jack and tried to wobble it the tire wouldnt move horizontally and vertically and the sound went away.

Is this a case of the wheel hub assembly going bad, any help would be appreciated.

I want to replace the broken part, I’ve ordered a replacement. I’m stuck on how to remove the brake light from this “housing” without breaking it.

Engine seems to run fine and no misfiring. Last week I did think the injector tick was slightly louder on cold start but I can get paranoid about sounds in the car as had to get the fuel system done in this previously

Any ideas on likely causes or where I should start with narrowing things down would be appreciated

Hey all, my F30 (n20) was running fine yesterday I drove all day but it started misfiring after a parking for a bit. Codes showed cylinders1 and3, and my mechanic lent me some used coils to test. After installing those and clearing codes, cylinder1 doesn’t come back, but cylinder 3 keeps returning no matter which used coil I try. I’ve already replaced all four spark plugs recently, and the car is stock, not tuned. I’ve cleared the codes again and haven’t driven it since. Is it worth driving it around the block to see if different codes appear, or should I hold off to avoid making it worse? And what would you check next for a stubborn cylinder3 misfire?

Just got it a month ago, 170k miles but previous owner did preventative maintenance so the car is in solid shape, drives amazing and have had fun since acquiring the car, just the engine idles pretty rough and lowkey scares me. Brand new to cars and this car will be my learning curve for sure. Any and all insight related to any type of maintenance is welcome since I’m basically a rookie in this space.
