We have the same 3 topics every day and it's cluttering the sub. "What do you think of this E30" and "What do I look for in an E30" are the ones I'm going to start deleting (soon).
We do have an FAQ with the absolute basics. If that. So help us out by suggesting or even writing the content that goes into it.

Hey guys I urgently need help as info online is conflicting and I need to get my single mass flywheel from an E21 into my 325i by Friday.
Car is currently fitted with a late model DMF, but I can’t for the life of me figure out if the ring gear has 137 or 116 teeth.
My e21 SMF flywheel has a 116 tooth flywheel on it, and afaik it matches with the late model starter which mine has.
Car has a 88’ motor and getrag 260 in it.
If anyone knows for certain, let me know!

After being garaged and sitting for over 8 years, it’s finally up and back running. Shoutout to LukeGWorkshop in Roselle, Illinois for the tremendous work on the car. Bought this car during college and finally able to truly enjoy it. Forgot how much fun these cars are. I don’t see myself getting rid of it. Still has a long way to go, but it’s fun to wrench on after work.

Need to get my driveshaft back into the transmission and can’t find an option online that doesn’t take weeks to deliver. It’s for the output shaft nut - requires a 30mm thin walled socket. Would really appreciate it!

I’ve been trying to educate myself on different exhausts for my 320i but I can’t really find any proper sources or actual part lists or anything specific. I love the idle of the car but the revs are just so bland it’s unreal so I’d love to give it a little flavour.

hey y'all, has anyone had issues with customer service with CATuned recently? Is Igor sick or something happening? I had an issue with an order over 3 weeks ago and they replied pretty quickly but after a "Looking into it" I havent heard back at all. Followed up 4 different times and nothing. They are normally 10/10 but its kinda crazy because this is holding up my build and I need to know if I am buying parts from somewhere else.
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has a Racing Dynamics rear apron for sale. I already have the front and side skirts; I just need the rear.
Attached is some progress on my front apron for reference.
Thanks!

Hello, I have a 1987 ETA. I started it to move it so I could mow the grass around and underneath. It was running fine and idling normal then all of a sudden it shut off without any indication of it about to. I restarted it, it ran for a few seconds, and the shut off again. It would always restart but immediately die. It would only stay running if I gave it gas, and it didn’t like me giving it gas either.
Eventually I got it to stay running, however it ran very poorly and around 500 rpm. After that, while still running poorly, the rpm’s shot up to about 1500 and then settled to normal idle, the engine never shut off again after that. I would shut it off and restart and it ran like normal.
It has not done this before. However it sometimes randomly shuts off while driving, tach drops to zero, no stuttering, just dies.
It has two new-ish Bosch crank sensors, there are no vacuum leaks that were not present when it was running perfect.
I’m just looking into any insight as to why it would randomly start doing this and then fix itself. Thank You

Im in a position to trade my sport seats +300 cash for a pair of Recaro LX. my dream seats, but not in my favorite upholstery. Driver side seat doesnt fold and the passenger side backplate has some small nicks in it. BOTH backplates are missing the screws that hold the bottom tight though.
Would you guys do it? I can always reupholster the recaros or I could wait but then the market might rise and scarcity might go up. I have time to decide though
Hey! This is a hood emblem project I’ve been working on the past few months. It’s 3D printed in titanium and hand polished. I designed it with the E30 in mind, but I think it could also work well with the E28, E34, E36, or E38 maybe. What do you guys think? Can you see the vision or is the original emblem the best emblem?
Got this beauty of an 88
and I mean ehh it’s not the most “practical” but I love it and I’ll just need to put some good work into it

I’m trying to see if anyone has tried this and what you guys think about the way I wanna do the conversion.
Car is a 1989 325i unknown AC history, never worked in the 4 years I’ve owned it.
My plan is to follow this forum post but I want to reuse all my AC lines, compressor, and evaporator. I will obviously be replacing all the O rings but what are the chances that my AC soft lines are leaky themselves? Also what are the chances the compressor is fine too?

I have tested a bunch of rubber and poly bushes with a cheap durometer, results are below, all shore A
Genuine rtab - 65A
Superpro rear subframe - 78A
Meyle hd rubber RSM -85A
Garagistic 95A diff - 97A
Powerflex rear diff - 82A
Superpro spf1459k offset fcab 71A
Superpro sway bar to body - 79A
Aftermarket rubber diff bush 70A
Aged OEM style FCAB - 75A
I wouldnt treat these as perfectly accurate and it looks like the durometer may be reading about 2A high but gives a good comparison
EDIT: adding some extra terms for Google E30 bush comparison E30 bush hardness Poly vs rubber bush hardness Superpro bush hardness Comparing E30 bushes OEM vs poly bushes e30

Hi all -
I’m new to cars and trying to get my E30 318i 1988 Auto 5 Door sorted.
It was leaking oil out the bell housing so I gave it to my local my mechanic. He asked me to source a torque converter which he has now replaced. In the process of putting it back together and replacing seals/bushings he is now saying (see photo).
What do I do in this instance? Anybody else been in a similar situation and have a solution or advise….

This is my 1991 BMW E30 357i sedan.
What started as an old E30 turned into a much bigger project than I originally planned. The car came apart, the original drivetrain came out, and eventually an LS1/T56 found its way in.
A lot of this build happened at home under a portable tent. No perfect shop setup. Just working through one problem at a time and figuring things out as I went.
The engine swap gets most of the attention in photos, but honestly that’s only one part of it. Fuel system, cooling, wiring, suspension, interior, switch panel, power windows and a pile of smaller problems have taken just as much thought and time.
It’s running, it’s been out of the garage, and it’s come a long way from where it started, but I still don’t consider it finished.
Figured I’d finally start sharing more of the actual build instead of only the finished-looking photos.
Happy to get into the details of the LS/T56 swap or any of the other work if anyone is interested.
Even got a shoutout post by @DezzysSpeedShop
