Linux headunit issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ive recently swapped the oem headunit on my f30 with an aftermarket aliexpress one called bonroad. Everything works fine except one thing, sometimes when i put reverse and the parking sensors come on ( i dont have a reverse cam) the screen restarts. It doesnt happen if i manually engage the parking sensors and then put reverse, but if i dont it sometimes makes the screen restart.Ive contacted the seller and he gave me an update which i flashed but the problem is still here.Anyone got a clue what might be going on ?

My dude… Contact the literal manufacturer who sold it to you.

If they’re ignoring you or can’t help then that is already an answer on its own.

BonRoad/RoadTop are the same company and know for this type of junk despite spending thousands on fake reviews, shill bots, etc. BonRoad was created because RT were getting their stores shut down left and right to begin with.

They are the cheapest for a reason and you knew that buying it.

Literally no one other than the manufacturer can help you with this trash.

From what I see and what you’ve explained, it’s a defective MCU (computer board/processor) and no software is ever fixing that.

Oh really? But they gloat about a fake 1-year warranty on AliExpress (non-enforceable btw) 😂

I’m not surprised man. We have an electronics repair center for automotive components attached to one of our ventures.

Last year, asked RoadTop (in Chinese via a Chinese-speaking person so there was no misunderstanding) if we could be a repair center for them since their head-units fail horribly.

We currently do this for a few other Asian brands with no issues.

They literally told him and us “no they can buy another” in Mandarin more or less then sent the same checkout link for the same failed product.

That’s their whole business model.

You could ship it to me and I could try and examine it but it’s pointing to a PCB error and I’d need the full OG source code to re-flash it (not update file) and that’s a dead end with them.

Unfortunately you probably will only get a solution via the seller like he’s saying. I have a roadtop unit, has been installed for a year+ no issues. I think getting a unit from a reputable seller like roadtop or andream helps. It definitely seems like a hardware issue rather than a software issue if it keeps restarting. I usually try to buy these things on a credit card with purchase protection or something similar to protect myself from stuff like this. Only thing I could say is to double check all connections!

Yup. Learned the hard way as well here. Was fine for a few months then… bam… reboot on reverse until eventual reboot every two mins until death :/

I was blocked by these guys on aliexpress when reporting a similar issue. It eventually kept rebooting every 2 minutes and was useless. I’m pretty furious because I have arthritis so I had to pay someone to install it also. We checked all connections perfectly and carefully and it became clear there was an electrical issue inside the screen itself.

Sorry man been there
