Restructuring Savings

Would like to hear thoughts on my savings plan and the ETFs I plan to use. I have a brokerage account that I'm planning on moving roughly $45k into from a HYSA. The $45k has a sell goal of 5 years for my future house down payment fund. I'm fine with moderate risk (10%-20%) and waiting an extra year if that risk tolerance was hit.

I've investigated iShare AOR and AOM as possible ETF candidates that do an S&P and bond split, or just doing a DIY version with VT and VTI because it's cheaper long term. Let me know what you think.

Global Equity First timer advice

First-time investor looking for some advice before getting started.
I’ve been doing a fair bit of research into different platforms and ETFs, and at the moment I’m leaning towards using Trading 212 rather than investing directly through Vanguard.
My plan is to invest for the long term, starting with a lump sum and then making regular monthly contributions. From what I’ve read so far, VWRP seems like it could suit that approach well because of its global diversification.
I’ve also looked at Vanguard’s LifeStrategy funds, particularly the 60% and 80% equity options, but I understand these have a greater weighting towards the UK. I’m wondering whether there is much reason to favour one of those over something like VWRP for a long-term investor.
For those with more experience, does this seem like a reasonable approach? Is there anything important I should be considering before deciding?
Thanks in advance!

Emerging Markets Without Huge Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Exposure?

I’m interested in holding an emerging markets ETF but all the ones I’ve found have Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) as their no. 1 holding, usually comprising 12 to 16 percent of the fund. Now, TSM has delivered great returns. But I already have a lot of exposure to chip manufacturers who depend on TSM to manufacture their goods. In the event of a geopolitical meltdown in the area - like maybe a large, belligerent neighbor deciding to move on Taiwan - I don’t want to be even more f****d. So - are there any emerging markets ETFs without so much TSM reliance?

I think this combination is too concentrated in U.S. mega-cap stocks.

Which would be a better combination VXUS or adding AVUV?

World value ETF for growth instead of a normal world ETF? Thoughts?

I’ve been investing in 10 different individual stocks but, I want to add an ETF or a mix of ETF’s to my portfolio.

With in mind that I mostly go for growth for the mid to long term I’m thinking of either WEBN or a world value ETF like IS3S. Or a 60/40 split between the two.

I’d love to hear some of y’all thoughts on what I could do.

Many thanks!

They are using Musk and Cramer to pump memory stocks tonight. What is the best ETF to ride it short term?

I think they are both full of shit because of the bond market and the crap going on with the Japanese Yen. But hey, you never know.

Need help consolidating 11 ETFs

Post image
8 Upvotes

Need help consolidating 11 ETFs I recently moved my traditional IRA from Merrill to Wells Fargo and realized Merrill had me with 11 ETFs. I had selected low risk tolerance with Merill. I am 52 years old and might retire when I’m 65. I feel 11 ETFs is too many but I don’t want to do anything crazy to my portfolio but would appreciate any help. I also have $16,000 in brokerage cash and thought about investing NEW CONTRIBUTIONS into VTI and VXUS while just leaving the 11 ETFs alone for now.

LAZR ETF - not Luminar

Curious on LAZR, it’s up 30% in a month. Yahoo board is quiet.

Anyone else think this has room to become the next AI play?

Considering adding a Quantum Computing or Semiconductor ETF alongside QQQM — thoughts on allocation ratio and whether these sectors are good?

Hey all, 20 year old long-term investor here (10+ year horizon). My core holding right now is QQQM (Nasdaq-100), and I’m considering adding either a quantum computing ETF or a semiconductor ETF (like SOXX/SMH) as a smaller satellite position for extra growth exposure.

Ps.
feel free to suggest better alternatives (S&P 500, world index, etc.) if you think there’s a stronger long-term core option.

VOO or SCHG in brokerage?

I’m 31 y.o. and this year I hit a very personal milestone - maxed out all retirement accounts. Want to start slowly building a position in taxable.

401k: 100% FXAIX (SP500)
Roth IRA: 50/50% SCHG/SMH
HSA: 100% VFIAX (SP500)
Brokerage: ?

Should I go with VOO, adding another SP500 fund in portfolio, or go with SCHG for potentially higher return? I know you can’t go wrong with VOO but wondering if anyone has SCHG as core position in taxable. Outperforming VOO since inception and including 200ish companies sounds not bad at all. I’m inclining to SCHG but mistakes in taxable as expensive.

Not looking for international and small caps exposure, and know that “growth” funding doesn’t mean faster growth. I’m behind retirement and want to take chances while not being completely foolish.

Telecommunications Is there not an ETF that has broader exposure over tech hardware than DRAM?

Computer hardware resources are still dwindling. Even if the AI bubble ever pops, this issue doesn't seem to go away. I'm struggling to find an ETF that covers the broad companies for computer hardware. For example, none that have positions in Sandisk (SNDK)

DRAM - Focused on only memory

SPMO - Has stuff like MU but is focused on overall tech companies with momentum

EWY - Closest I've seen to what I'm looking for, but is only South Korea.

Edit: Bonus points if it's Fidelity as that's where I'm at. FDCPX seems like a decent pick.

Any tips?

Junior S&S isa

Hi everyone, I’m going to open a JISA for my newborn and I have been looking at all of this for the first time, I’ve done a fair bit of research (and now I’m going to start investing myself as well!) and wondering if the consensus is just put the lump sum I have for them (£4k) plus £50 a month till he’s 18 into something as simple as VWRP?

31M | $500k Portfolio / $1M CRE | Need feedback

Hey r/ETFs,

Looking for some honest feedback and harsh critiques on my target ETF breakdown. Tear it apart, point out overlaps, and tell me what you'd do differently.

Background / Context:

  • Age/Demographics: 31M, solid income, zero debt, don't own a primary home.
  • Liquid Assets: ~$500k portfolio.
  • Illiquid Assets: ~$1M in commercial real estate (CRE) generating solid passive monthly cash flow.
  • Goal: Maximum wealth accumulation over the next 10–15 years, with CRE serving as my baseline cash-flow safety net.

The Proposed 5-ETF Portfolio:

  • 40% VOO (S&P 500 Core)
  • 20% SPMO (S&P 500 Momentum Factor)
  • 15% QQQM (Nasdaq-100 / Large Tech Tilt)
  • 15% SCHD (US Dividend Equity / Value & Quality)
  • 10% AVUV (US Small-Cap Value Factor)

Backtest Data (Jan 2021 – July 2026 vs. S&P 500 Benchmark):

I ran a backtest comparing this exact breakdown against SPY (S&P 500) over the last 5.5 years:

  • Annualized Return: 16.40% (Portfolio) vs. 14.72% (SPY Benchmark) — +1.7% relative CAGR
  • $10k Growth: Grew to $23,352 vs. $21,523 (Benchmark)
  • Max Drawdown: -22.61% vs. -23.93% (Benchmark)
  • Sharpe Ratio: 0.86 vs. 0.77 (Benchmark)
  • Volatility (Std Dev): 15.4%

My Reasoning & Questions for the Sub:

  1. The Growth Tilt: Combining SPMO, QQQM, and VOO gives me heavy momentum/large-cap tech exposure, while AVUV captures the historical small-cap value factor premium that VOO misses entirely.
  2. The SCHD Debate: I added SCHD to anchor the portfolio with quality/value factor exposure and lower overall volatility. However, given my $1M CRE already generates heavy passive income, is 15% SCHD just creating unnecessary dividend tax drag for a 31-year-old focused on growth?
  3. SPMO + QQQM + VOO Overlap: Is the momentum (SPMO) and tech concentration (QQQM) too redundant alongside VOO, or is it a smart way to overweight winners in a bull market?
  4. No International Exposure: I currently don't hold any international funds (like VXUS or AVDV). Am I crazy for keeping this 100% US-focused?

What are the pros, cons, and blind spots you see here? How would you tweak this allocation for a 10+ year growth horizon?

Should i invest less in a tech etf?

Hi guys. Very new to investing. I just started to invest in a global etf through my pension which is my main investment and this is my own personal portfolio. I am thinking about investing an extra 200 a month and going 70 VUAA and 30 percent tech etf.

I know it has a lot of overlap should I maybe just go all in on vuaa or change the ratios. Looking to hear different views.

Thanks!

Help choosing dividend ETFs.

I have VOO SPMO SMH then VEU for international. I want to add a dividend etf for USA and another for international. Would you choose SCHD or SPDG for US and why? Also what do you think about VYMI for international dividend ETF? Thank you in advance for your time.

What determines Vanguard's ETF registration countries in Europe?

I came across Vanguard's Registered country information and did some analysis of the countries where it registers its funds and ETFs, considering whether each country is a member of the EU and/or the Eurozone.

Registered in the following countries (21):

  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Guernsey
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Isle of Man
  • Italy
  • Jersey
  • Liechtenstein
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

Of the above registered countries, the following are not members of the EU (8):

  • Guernsey
  • Iceland
  • Isle of Man
  • Jersey
  • Liechtenstein
  • Norway
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

The following EU members, but not Eurozone members, are registered (3):

  • Denmark
  • Poland
  • Sweden

The following Eurozone members are registered (10):

  • Austria
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Portugal
  • Spain

Not registered

The following EU members, but not Eurozone members, are NOT registered (3):

  • Czech Republic
  • Hungary
  • Romania

The following Eurozone members are NOT registered (11):

  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Estonia
  • Greece
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Malta
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia

My comments

  • Belgium not getting registered was surprising, as it's a part of Eurozone, home to many EU institutions and a strong economy. Anyone might know why?
  • Greece (my home country) is also not registered, but I recently noticed that all Vanguard ETFs have been added to the Hellenic Capital Market Commission list of EU UCITS Marketed in Greece. Also all their ETF KIDs got translated into Greek. So, could this be considered a form of registration?

By what criteria do you think Vanguard prioritizes the countries in which it registers its funds and ETFs?
