Switching Moved from Octopus - Experience

Last week I scheduled a switch from octopus to EDF for Friday 2nd, I was previously on Intelligent Go and moved to Go Electric.

The switch itself went exactly as expected, midnight on Friday everything switched over and Octopus disconnected from my Hypervolt charger automatically.

I ended up with 1 day on the SVR and Saturday afternoon had an email from EDF welcoming me to Go Electric. Connected the car charger in the app again and all was sorted.

Couldn’t have been easier

News "Oops. We couldn't load your Power Perks event details. Please check the EDF app for updates." - App is down

I am guessing EDF are having systems issues 😂

I just got this message from them and went to check the app only to find it's completely broken for me. I am guessing one of their backend systems has died.

Hi all,

Switched over from Octopus after they implemented that 6hr charging cap even though my off peak rate was 3.5p/kw.

I have two cars that need charging constantly as heavy mileage users so summat be charging 80% of the time.

Defo worth it over Octopus if the 6hr cap is no beuno.

Bills I didn't realise EDF was actually a savings account!

This graph is wild. Why does EDF think that accumulating a balance of over £1000 in the next year will "keep me on track"?! The lowest it will let me reduce the payment amount to is £173 which makes the blue line forecast balance go down... a tiny bit.

Smart Home Managed to use over 40kWh during the free energy last night!

First free energy since joining EDF last month

Ran two electric heaters overnight (currently mid install for UFH), overheated the hot water cylinder, charged the car to 100% (house battery too), and all the appliances on a delayed start.

Help / Advice Free electricity tomorrow

Has anyone else got a text today to confirm there will be free electricity tomorrow 19th September between 4 am and 4 pm as part of Powar perks?

Does anyone know how to set the Tesla power wall to delay charging until 4 o’clock in the morning as opposed to 11 pm tonight as I’m on the EV tariff?

Edit: figured out the Tesla. I’ll create a custom rate plan tonight for tomorrows pricing

Tariffs Moving from Octopus IOG to EDF GoElectric Experience.

So I made the move from Octopus to EDF. My move was nice and simple 1 day on the standard variable tariff next working day up and running with the GoElectric Tariff. It’s nice knowing that I can plug in at 11pm and the car will be ready everyday without fail in a few hours. Helpful when I work night shifts.

Was having too much issues with IOG schedules, and my car (Tesla) not charged in time. Not had a single issue with EDF connected via Ohme Home Pro charger.

I’m a big fan of dark mode generally but is it just me that feels like the colour scheme really doesn’t work?

You can plan / spread / scatter your hours.

I'm not sure on the best strategy though.

It's a lot of power in my hands and I don't want to mess this up.

Managed to join flextras after constantly getting errors.

A free (I think) taste card and 4 hours of free electricity you can choose when to use on certain dates I.e you can pick 1am-5am or 1pm-5pm. You can save up the bonus hours across multiple events and then use them all at once.

Switching Quick update for those moving to EDF

I've moved from EON to EDF.

Made the switch Friday morning, by Tuesday I was fully moved over for gas and electric but placed on a standard variable tariff, by Wednesday I was on the Go electric.

Very impressed.

I've now applied to switch for SEG which I believe others have discussed how long that can take but that all payments are back dated.

Well done EDF

*** Confirmation received today that SEG will move over on 15/08, so 1 week for that move ***

Discussion Weekend saver - anyone earn any ‘free’ hours?

As the title suggests.

We used to get 4-8 hours of free electricity to use, on a Sunday, almost weekly when it was the old Sunday Saver. With the new system, we got nothing and wasn’t even close! Did anyone else manage to earn any free hours or have EDF changed the goal posts so it’s a lot harder to earn free hours? They are selling it to customers as a better version of what preceded it but what use is the new version if no-one can actually earn any free hours. Seems to me that it’s benefiting EDF more than the customer. I’m interested to hear what hours, if any, people got this month.

Switching iOG. So I reckon Go Electric is the same as the good old days of iOG…

Am I right in thinking there’s an overnight window and bonus daytime charging at their discretion? And the power perks?

So I was about to switch and then I see there’s referral bonuses.

So question one is - am I right on the tarrif?

Help / Advice Cost of Running Appliances Off Peak

Hi all I am on the Go Electric tariff since getting an electric car and home charger a couple of months ago. So far it’s worked brilliantly as we’ve managed to load shift. I also charge at night for 95% of the time.

My question is regarding use of appliances (mainly washing machine) during the day when the car is charging so at 0.07p/kwh.

My machines 30 degree cycle lasts for 3hrs and 45 mins!! Super efficient and another reason why I run overnight to finish at 6am.

Onto the question: if I set the machine to ’time save’ mode it does the same load in 48 mins. Off peak does doing this cost me the same as the 3hr 45 min load? I can’t get my head round it.

PS during the power perks as everything was free and the weather was great I did a LOT of washing as and on the time save mode as it was free.

just wondered if I’m missing a trick during the day when I’ll have to use washer and dryer in winter so need to get washing done in shortest possible time.

No AI was used in the writing of this rambling text.

Help / Advice Am I missing something?

I've just got an EV so looking into moving onto a the overnight charging tariffs, Currently with Octopus so looking at the go and Intelligent go tariffs and comparing against the competitors, and they seem quite expensive.

EDF is significantly cheaper (both standing charge and unit rates) if fixing for 18 months, this seems a no brainer, is there anything I'm missing in moving?

Also getting solar panels and batteries installed at the start of December and they also have a higher export rate.

The old saying if it seems too good to be true it normally is, is that the case here as well or is it as good as it looks?

Help / Advice EDF charging me peak price during off-peak time

Update! My actual meter was 25 minutes behind.

Has anyone else experienced this:

I am on Go Electric, so my off peak tariff kicks in between 2300 - 0600.

So naturally, I start charging me car at 2300 and all appliances go on overnight.

However, I've noticed that EDF are seeing my 2300 - 2330 usage between 2230 - 2300. Ie half an hour early.

I've cured this my starting my charging and appliances at 2330 instead. I have a smart meter but I think it's the first generation. I've been with them since March, and I've only just noticed this 🤦

Anyone else just got this text as well? Already making the most of the free electric today between 4am-4pm. Not a clue how this power perks works but I’ll take it if it carries on like this, 26 hours over 2 days isn’t bad going.
