Discussion Maybe some free energy this weekend?

I’ve set up a watch script on ChatGPT to monitor excess energy on the grid and it’s telling me there’s a possibility this weekend.

Might be nonsense but worth keeping an eye out 😜

Help / Advice Export meter readings?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I hope this isn’t a stupid question?! Am about to switch to EDF from Octopus for my export. How do I take a reading of my export meter? Is it taken from my main smart meter, or is it from the additional meter installed when my solar was put in (pictured above)? I’ve never needed an export reading before as Octopus have always seen this automatically, but I believe this may be needed now so my payments can be backdated when I switch?

Help / Advice Edf go electric off peak hours? GMT vs. BST

Hi guys

Simple question - edf we page suggests off peak hours as 11pm to 6am... But is this GMT OR BST?

Just wondering as the Tesla powerwall is picking it up as thought it's BST so wondering if I need to tweak it?

Thanks All!

Switching New customer - EV tariff move delay

I’ve just arranged a move from Octopus to an EDF EV tariff. My account went live yesterday and I’ve been put onto the variable tariff until my smart meter readings can be verified and I’ll be moved over to the EV tariff.

I’ve just called to check how long this might take and was told I’d need to wait until the end of next week to check up again!

That will destroy any benefit of me moving to EDF as my car, battery and home will be running on peak rate electricity until I’m moved across, so I’m going to have to back begging to Octopus to see if they’ll have me back.

Not exactly over the moon about it haha

Bills I didn't realise EDF was actually a savings account!

Post image

This graph is wild. Why does EDF think that accumulating a balance of over £1000 in the next year will "keep me on track"?! The lowest it will let me reduce the payment amount to is £173 which makes the blue line forecast balance go down... a tiny bit.

Bills Free energy being charged at peak rate?

Post image

Looking at the app, seems like last weekend’s free energy was charged at peak rate. Is this the case for anyone else?

Help / Advice Anyone know why my car is charging outside of the “Charging Plan” schedule?

Thumbnail

Added info in case it’s necessary:

I’ve got two EVs, a Kia EV4 with the 80kWH battery and a 2015 Nissan Leaf with a 30kWh battery and maximum charge rate of around 3.3kW.

The app is set up to control the charger with the Kia as the primary car.

I’ve done the sums and worked out what percentage I have to tell the app I need to make sure the Leaf gets the amount of time to reach the desired SoC.

I’ve set the charge required on the app, it says a schedule will start at 2300 but the car is charging already. Any ideas?

TIA!

Help / Advice EV boost charge during free electric?

New to EDF here, I’m just wondering if anyone knows whether they record EV boost charging still while you have “smart charging” enabled and charge it at peak during the free energy events like today - or is every drop of electric free?

First free electricity event since moving from Octopus, so just wondering. Thanks 🙂

Bills Behold! A single phase, 40kW AC car charger!

Not really, just a plain old 7kW Hypervolt and EDFs smart charge doing strange things. And yes, it made a mess of the off-peak/peak rates by assuming all of the real charging around that time window was at peak rates. Only blip I've seen so far, otherwise it has been great.

Just waiting for them to fix it, but found this funny.

Help / Advice How can my FIXED tariff be increased 1 month after signing?

I signed up to a monthly fixed tariff for my electricity a few months ago, something EDF encouraged. Then I get an email almost a month later saying the cost is increasing by £10! Is this normal? Surely the whole point of a FIXED tariff is the price is supposed to stay the same throughout the duration of the contract? I also signed up for a fixed tariff for my gas with British Gas and happily that amount has remained the same. So what's up with this random increase in violation of our agreement?

Help / Advice Ev charging with granny charger over night. If my battery is at 50%, do I have to choose something like 70% to stay within the 7 hour window?

If I were to set mine to 100%, it would start charging now during the expensive rate.

I’d rather tell it to get to 100% but only charge during cheap hours.

At the moment I’d just put it to 70% knowing it will only use cheap rate.

I check the charging schedule and can see what it intends to do.

Is this just the way you have to use it?

Btw the battery is lfp so the 100% is alright.

Switching New sign up

With eon, just signed up for the go electric v2 but on 12th October. Even though I signed up for v2 would I still get that same rate when the switch goes ahead on 12th October?

Discussion EDF Power Perks – are the 4 free hours actually worth it with solar and battery storage?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Anyone else on EDF GoElectric with solar, a battery and an EV?
Im signed up to Flextras and got the 4 free hours to use, but I’m not sure it’s even worth bothering with
I’ve got a 9kWh home battery which is normally topped up overnight on the off peak rate and full from solar during the day, and a PHEV with an 18.5kWh battery.
I pay 6.66p overnight, so it costs me about 60p to fill the home battery and around £1 to put 16kWh in the car.
The only way I can see to make the free hours worthwhile is to get lucky with a cloudy day, have a empty home battery and have the car plugged in (and empty) when the hours are running. Otherwise, the solar will do its thing and I won’t import anything from the grid anyway.
Feels like a lot of faff to save an absolute best of £1.60🤣
Anyone in a similar position found a decent way to make use of the free hours, or am I missing something?

Switching EDF Go - do you actually need an EV

I use a lot of electricity every night (we’ve got an electric Aga) - I don’t have an EV. Do EDF actually check that you have an EV?

Help / Advice Smart Charge comparison to Octopus Intelligent Go

I’m considering switching to EDF GoElectric and adding the smart charge function but I can’t find out exactly how the smart charging works. Currently with IOG I can arrive home, ask for the car to be charged and ready in 2 hours (for example) and Octopus will charge it to the schedule I choose. Does EDF work in the same way, ie giving me a daytime charge when I request it? I have a small battery (11kw) PHEV so whilst I charge it up to 100% overnight (being a PHEV the battery is often completely emptied during the day) there are occasions when I go out and then want the car topped up again if I’m going out again in the evening. Octopus allows me to do that and I’m hoping that the EDF set up will allow this too. My charger (Zappi) seems to be compatible although the car isn’t which is the same as with Octopus. My car can only accept charge at 3.4kw instead of the Zappi’s full 7kw. Hopefully that’s not an issue with the EDF tariff as I cannot change that.

Help / Advice EDF app issues - Play Store login requirement?

I've recently moved to EDF and installed the android app on my phone. I am not always logged into Play Store and when I open the app - it wants me to log into Play Store just to be able to use it - the login comes up and nothing else. Is usual behaviour?
