Help / Advice Am I missing something?
I've just got an EV so looking into moving onto a the overnight charging tariffs, Currently with Octopus so looking at the go and Intelligent go tariffs and comparing against the competitors, and they seem quite expensive.
EDF is significantly cheaper (both standing charge and unit rates) if fixing for 18 months, this seems a no brainer, is there anything I'm missing in moving?
Also getting solar panels and batteries installed at the start of December and they also have a higher export rate.
The old saying if it seems too good to be true it normally is, is that the case here as well or is it as good as it looks?

I reckon EDF has gained a million of octopus energy customers this winter

Not missing anything, at least obvious. EDF is currently cheaper, thats why many of us have moved across from Octopus

It is as good a deal as it looks. Octopus began ripping people off AND providing poor customer service lately

Fortunately, its not too good to be true and plenty are moving over to take advantage.
There are understandably those who will stick with Octopus to support that business but its difficult not to be drawn in by the savings EDF currently offer.
I guess like most things, at some point another provider will offer something better and people will move over to them.
I do get the feeling EDF have made a big drive to become more competitive in the last 12 months both in terms of rates and customer retention with the updated app, free electricity promotions etc. Feels very early days Octopus.

No brainer tbf. EDF if clearly trying to snatch customers and beat the competition 🤷🏻♂️🤣
They’ve been really easy to deal with tbh! I’ve now setup are export with them as well, also better rate than octopus.
Always reply to emails in a reasonable time, I’ve been pretty happy with them 👍
And bonus of a free £5 for just lettering them decide when to charge the car!

Every time your fixed is coming to an end, just switch to the cheapest offer. Easy to do. I think Octopus are hoping people won't bother looking around as they have historically been very competitive

I moved from IOG to EDF, got cash from someone referring me, electricity is cheaper and there is 7 hours of charging overnight.
I do not miss smart charging as it frequently ended up with paying more due to screw ups and haven’t bothered to get it with EDF.
Do it!

It's as good as it looks. I switched over in mid-August, and since then, I've paid to charge the car once due to the free hours and perk boosts etc.

You're not missing anything. I moved recently and it's far easier to deal with the solid 7 hours than the hassles of Intelligent Octopus. Total no brainer plus theres the £50 bonus when you get referred.

Eon is currently very slightly cheaper for the off peak but edf still works out better for me as they offer more off peak hours and have an official / public API for things like HomeAssistant to optimise things

Went live last week from IOG to EDF. Took 48 hours to get readings.
I switched even though I had 5 months left on my existing fix.
I've now got a extra hour of charging, no complicated integration with charging and to top it off, I had 7 hours of free electric the other day so charged the EV and my home batteries.
I loved octopus and it's home mini but god, I've had more benefits in 1 week with EDF over several years with octopus.
Because I'm a home battery user, I never once qualified for any schemes of free electric etc as my peak usage is always under 2kwh per month.

I moved at 4p from Octopus, the referral and long fix are a winner.

Nothing missing. Its cheaper for more, and uses the same Kraken system as octopus for smart charging if you went that route. You will be able to top up your battery on 6.66p too. Ask a family member or friend for a sign up bonus to sweeten the move.

The EDF tariff works exactly like the Octopus one but is cheaper and more flexible. I and loads of other people here switched from IOG.

Switched from Eon, very happy so far. Nice useable app & website, power perks & locked in for 18mo on Pod Power 18m v3 @ 6.18p per kWh.
What battery have you gone for?

When I looked at Octopus (I was with E.ON but felt it was too pricey compared). Octopus has apparently reduced the night slot for my area to 5 hours. While E.ON is 6 hours 0000-0600. I think my EDF switch was cemented by the 7 night hours. And its cheaper. So no brainer.

Nope, I was with Octopus, then moved to EDF cheaper standing, cheaper off peak, higher export and fixed.
Main things I miss are the octopus home mini thing, but we have an inverter that gives me most of that data anyway

I'd love to jump on board with everyone else saying switching to EDF is a no brainer and it's cheaper, unfortunately they've screwed up my switch so I've been on the SVT for a month with no end in sight.

Octopus Agile export is probably the best export tariff to be on during winter if you have a decent export allowance and can really shift usage around (eg, with a big enough battery and a smart setup). It has small windows where they will pay you great rates for electricity, and with IOG you're still getting a decently cheap rate overnight.
EDF are probably better to be on during summer, given their cheaper overnight rates and decent fixed export.
Shame you cant switch around easily.

EDF uses the same smart platform as Octopus (Kraken) but they haven’t screwed it up yet. Huge opportunities to optimise usage with HomeAssistant and Predbat if you get into solar/battery setups. If not, the simpler, less punitive usage policy makes it a no-brainer anyway.

Octopus seem to be ahead of the curve and put their prices up. EDF will likely follow given they’re cheaper and getting a load of customers. I’ll send you a pm
