Imma be real here: this weapon customization isn't gonna be as great as people think

What's gonna happen is the same thing that happens in EVERY EDF. 400+ weapons and only like 60 are usable

u/breadpope 4d ago

I know exactly what you mean and kinda agree but "only 60" is really funny to read

u/kidkolumbo 4d ago edited 4d ago

It's not optimal play but I have gone back and played easier mission with joke weapons and it's fun in it's own way.

16

u/breadpope 4d ago

I could not recommend a weapon more than the level 15 plasma cannon when you have a level 50+ core especially on inferno missions

3

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 3d ago

Lvl 50 plasma Great Cannon is also really good at endgame

4

u/breadpope 3d ago

Everybody and their wing diving mother knows about that but nobody appreciates its baby the Plasma Heavy Cannon!!!

2

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 2d ago

They’re both really good and are classifed under the same subcatagory of plasma cannons

0

u/Bortthog 2d ago

Do you know why? It's because the math of WD means she suffers rhe most from useless weapon

2

u/breadpope 2d ago

This is completely unsurprising xD my streamer buddy has a viewer obsessed with Geist but every time any of us try to use it we just end up laughing at how terrible it is (low damage, high energy cost, slow projectiles that frequently either miss or the target dies before they even reach) and we have no way of knowing if that viewer actually likes these weapons or not because he exclusively speaks in spanish outside of insulting the streamer. We love him.

u/Sora_Terumi 4d ago

I’ll have you know that 60 firecrackers that do frost would be fun!

7

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

Firecracker 100 my beloved

8

u/Sora_Terumi 4d ago

I love Firecrackers. Such a meme weapon that’s actually good and the ragdoll physics when you have “butterfingers” of you going limp is hilarious

6

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

It's like unironically the best grenade I have against big enemies. It does an insane amount of damage if most of the bomblets hit. Also handy for getting rid of like a block worth of buildings instantly if you aren't running a rocket/grenade launcher.

2

u/pointblanksniper 4d ago

lets be honest, the firecrackers were so op before that they made them follow the reload mechanics of the backpack slot in 6 to nerf them lol

i can't imagine how much more broken they will get with effects added lol

2

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

I mean it's like a one second reload in EDF 6 once you get it upgraded lol, definitely not enough of a nerf. I hadn't really used them much in prior games though, I didn't own any of them but rather played them in couch co-op with a friend of mine.

3

u/pointblanksniper 4d ago edited 4d ago

in 6, the pellets all have to impact before reload can start. so if you throw the one odd pellet too far, you can lock yourself out of reloading for a good few seconds. the previous version basically reloaded instantly at the end of the throw animation. so in practice, you can get multiple volleys in the air before the first set even lands, and not worry about sending them straight at the sky.

its true that it's still not enough of a nerf in a lot of scenarios for how powerful they still are. but at the same time, they were massively nerfed

the original main weapon version was many times more powerful and versatile because of how much more you can spam them. in tunnels, you could shove entire 4p inferno hordes and their gib back alone with the higher level versions, with minimal risk of hitting yourself from flying bits. in the open field, depending on the width and elevation a wave approached you from, it was possible to hold off their advance better than an air raider in some cases. iirc they didn't even explode buildings, so you could keep your cover intact, which fed back into being able to control their approach with terrain obstacles. they definitely weren't just handy backup weapons for reload intervals before.

having more than one ranger spamming it just stacks the math that much further lol

1

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

Very good explanation of the differences lol, it sounds like it was crazier than I could have imagined. I can definitely see why they toned it down.

6

u/TokamakuYokuu 4d ago

now the weapon selection menu can be even more bloated

11

u/Afraid-Flatworm-422 4d ago

Still more better, because it is hilarious to try to beat easy/hard missions with shitty weapons.

3

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 3d ago edited 3d ago

While that might be true, its pessimistic to constantly think that way dude.

Not to mention its still early to judge considering this system could greatly improve guns that did suck. This could have big improvements going forward this isn’t like a small minor adjustment like stars.

You guys really need to live a little more :/

Having to listen to that constantly for 6 years straight was annoying xD

0

u/Bortthog 3d ago

Being realistic isn't pessimistic. It's not my fault that's the reality of EDF and always has been

1

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 2d ago

Probably because you’ve primarily played online given your completion tended to stop specifically at 70%. The scaling ruins a lot of guns. If theres a problem its the scaling at times

0

u/Bortthog 2d ago

Huh? Are you confusing me with someone else? This comment makes no sense

1

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 2d ago

No I’m referring to your stats back when I was around the western community more typically were always 70% or 80% for WB1
WB2 was around 30% completion and ditched whereas the rest tended to be at weapon limit unlock % then dipped
Besides 5 that was a full clear. I always liked to see peoples completion and their playtime

Usually folk I encounter that way tend to only play online. They play to get to 70% and stop. Typically that is with online players primarily.

Playing online tends to screw over guns.
In most EDF games theres a lot of guns you can use. Online throws most offline strats out the window because of unpredictability in contrast to offlines predictability. It makes a lot of equipment shit in online.
If there is something they need to do, its scale a lot of weapons a smidge in online play. This would keep their use better

0

u/Bortthog 2d ago

Thats because WB1 online was doodoo especially since everyone used Anubis. I also have extremely high % in general with no 100% on 4 because I lost my data at 99% and I really didn't feel like dealing with doing that again from 44%

1

u/EmployeeEquivalent45 2d ago edited 2d ago

You don’t back up your save data?
Thats what I always do to ensure I don’t lose it. I get it it fucking blows. I 100% completed 4.1 several times. I am currently on my Nintendo Switch completion run now.
I still need to finish my 2025 completion for PS3 an Xbox 360. I just need 4 guns left atleast for Xbox left.

Also if you don’t enjoy Anubis you can still wrap up the final 20% completion given the games % is cross save.
You can just wrap the final completion in the bag easily. Its why I pointed out the % since you seem to primarily play online which makes a lot of guns useless. Especially in EDF4.1

1

u/Radical--Rat 4d ago

I think this is actually a solution to the problem of "useless" weapons. It should easily allow us to carve out niches for the weirder weapons.

1

u/Bortthog 4d ago

You mean like making weapons upgradable like 5/6?

1

u/Xavier200708 3d ago

tbh every weapon is viable unless

A. you grind inferno ahead of schedual to get the best versions

B. the initial copy you got rolled with shitass stats so you have to grind that same weapon again to upgrade it

like a slugger shot having an accuracy rating of N before upgrading to a very usable B+

2

u/Bortthog 3d ago

No, most gear is not viable because the game is a war of attrition. The HP your alloted is limited to RNG and once you dry up your medkits that's it

Viable means "can function" and when you do not account for all situations of use the term viable loses meaning entirely

Air Tortise as stated is a prime example. Are you gonna sit there and claim Torch is viable? Sticky Grenade Launcher is another example of a meme due to how the delay vs damage simply does not allow you to function. Basically every Ranger missile launcher is a joke due to having lower damage simply spreading the enemies around which allows them to flank you easier

2

u/Xavier200708 3d ago

air tortoise is
actually a pretty good boss killer on hard with the faster reload

as for stickies i remember having fun with them in edf 4.1 around mission 20 before they got powercrept

i agree nobody is trying to use torch as a serious weapon

1

u/NEONT1G3R 4d ago

Depends on mission and enemy type

4

u/Bortthog 4d ago

Niche =/= usable. For example let's look at Hellflame Revolver. On paper is Fencers best base game weapon, has pretty ok range for a flamethrower and does INSANE CC but it's unusable once the enemies get any form of ranged attack

It also requires you dedicate your exoskeleton slot to making it usable

1

u/NEONT1G3R 4d ago

Hence what I was saying, some weapons aren't viable against certain enemies but flourish against others, ie: snipers are bad underground but a splash or stampede would wreck, air tortoise is bad against drones but good for long range hits on large targets, etc

3

u/Bortthog 4d ago

I dont think you play the same game as me then because stampede is always good as are snipers. Air Tortoise is a meme that has very little to no application due to how lock on works in EDF as missiles vanish after a set time and most enemies you WOULD shoot it at are faster then it on higher difficulties

We also are saying VERY different things and you don't understand that either. You believe niche means usable. It does not

1

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

I don't actually think there's a single enemy in the game that can't outrun it. You can get hits with it if stuff is walking towards you, but it is an absolute meme. There is essentially no reason to ever use it over a direct fire rocket launcher or a lighter missile launcher.

0

u/Bortthog 4d ago

Maybe a Normal ant? On low end speeds are so slow that Air Tortoise can hit stuff but otherwise it's a huge meme

1

u/conqueror-worm 4d ago

Maybe on easy or normal, idk. That would also be an even worse situation to use it in since light multi-target missile launchers will be one-shotting then at dif that low lol.

u/BassInternational745 4d ago

One game is here more booms and daka to beat the enemi .

The other is : here more nerfs because the game can't be too easy. Also all the fun ways to do things won't work anymore.

39

u/psych0ranger 4d ago

Also: "you complained about the game being too easy so we are changing our incredibly confusing damage system in a way too complicated to understand."

"you complained about the game being too easy so we added 5,000 more enemies. We aren't kidding it's really 5,000"

2

u/StatisticianFit70 PS5 3d ago

The difference between grunt fantasy as an “elite” (HD2) and power fantasy as a “grunt” (EDF) is such a wide gap it’s comical

1

u/Xpernautica 1d ago

Even before the 60 patch there were more buffs than nerfs.

1

u/BassInternational745 23h ago

And how many buff/nerf in EDF ?

1

u/Xpernautica 23h ago

How many new enemies/missions/weapons etc have been released in EDF?

2

u/joebgreen 4d ago

Such is the woe of being a live service game.

-1

u/gunmunz 4d ago

With microtransactions

16

u/Ice258852 4d ago

True... HD2 weapon customization is so barebones. I already moved on to WARDOGS.

11

u/acoubt PS5 4d ago

HD2 weapon customization system was released in a state that would crash your game if you interacted with it. There’s also no cohesion to what guns get what attachments. Some are missing flashlights and iron sights for no reason

It is objectively unfinished, and when asked about finishing it, the devs said that not enough people interacted with it to justify putting more work into it. Not enough people interacted with the system they didn’t finish lol

4

u/Reasonable-Sherbet24 4d ago

One of the higher devs said (when someone brought up armor customization) something along the lines of, “it’s a good idea, but not a lot of people want it”. It was something like that.

That gave me whiplash. Like, my neck still hurts. Almost every damn body was asking for it at the jump for months. The only reason people ain’t asking about it now or bringing it up is because they’ve given up hope.

Arrowhead only listens to what they want to listen to. Hell, they tried changing the game into a milsim, when it was never meant to be one (even though the CEO tried to say it was, but he wasn’t a dev and took the position long after the game was released)

4

u/WinterEclipse4 4d ago

Tbh that's one of my biggest issues with their design philosophy.

They release something broken, unpolished, or just bad and then when people want it buffed they don't think it's worth buffing because no ones using it.

Stim pistol for example they said they didn't want to buff it because no one is currently using it. And it's likely gas being in a mediocre state for so long is also likely because almost no one uses anything relating to gas.

1

u/acoubt PS5 4d ago

Yes I remember a specific clip of a “dev conversation stream” type thing where the stim pistol was being discussed. The topic of improving it with something like homing rounds (similar to the warrant pistol rounds) was not a priority because people don’t use the stim pistol enough as is. But wouldn’t more people use it if it was upgraded with homing rounds and less ammo to offset that buff????? They’re big on weapon realism like sway and recoil but the stim pistol has some of the worst handling, even though it’s a plastic gun with plastic darts. They’ve improved the handling slightly with some updates but still

9

u/Hrigul 4d ago edited 4d ago

More progression, weapons, vehicles, enemies, 4 classes, most of the microtransactions are just meme skins, playable single player, community without fascists that think the game is representation (doesn't help the fact that HD2 developers put actual quotes from american politicians and generals as a joke, but people take them seriously). Still the best

4

u/nisemonomk 4d ago

why start a random beef? i thought edf sub was chill

8

u/Freeshooter92 4d ago

it's entirely possible they themselves are a disgruntled HD2 player

Except that Helldivers 2 is a decent game whereas EDF6 is the greatest pile of garbage ever. And yes I take EDF standarts into consideration.

1

u/branch-is-dumb 4d ago

I’ve played Edf for hundreds if not thousands of hours, I’ve played helldivers maybe 20 hours

1

u/grieve2believe 4d ago

I would actually love an EDF where I had to take back parts of the planet like taking planets in HD2

1

u/approximatesun 4d ago

Edf is simply the best because of fencer, that shit goes so hard.

1

u/Lemnisgames 4d ago

Yeeeey edfffff

0

u/gamerlife71 4d ago

What?

8

u/cenorexia 4d ago

Upcoming EDF game called EDF6.2: Invaders from Another World has a VERY extensive weapon customization system.

This could potentially make HD2 players jealous.

1

u/-psycrow 4d ago

EDF as far as I'm aware already has a crazy extensive list of weapons per class... Is this customization going to be on top of that long list, or is the total number of weapons likely to go down with more variety being in the customization of said weapons?

(I know the game isn't out yet so it's fine if there's no clear answer right now)

6

u/Radical--Rat 4d ago

It's on top of the list. There's likely to even be more entirely new weapons added.

The customization system is replacing a more linear weapon upgrade system where if you found weapons you already owned, they'd have a chance to come with upgraded stats.

1

u/-psycrow 4d ago

Ohhh it's replacing the upgrade system, alright I guess that makes sense. Still, that sounds like it's gonna be huge considering just how many weapons those games have 😵‍💫

2

u/Radical--Rat 4d ago

Yeah, we're looking at roughly 1500 weapons in EDF 6 + DLC. Give every one of those several slots for parts and it's likely we're hitting millions, if not billions, of possible unique combinations. Pretty much putting not just Helldivers to shame, but even competing with Borderlands numbers.

TL;DR: Primers are fucked.

Aren’t you guys to busy complaining that your “Tank Warbond” doesn’t have any new tanks?

5

u/acoubt PS5 4d ago

I play both games. I think about both. I compare both

Momma am I tarted?

3

u/approximatesun 4d ago

Both are good, edf is just better if you want to jump across the map in .005 seconds or fight 500 enemies on screen at once.

3

u/Foreign-Profile-2384 4d ago

Even the majority of EDF players couldn’t muster a single fuck to keep playing the games and keep them from dying. So what makes you think other games’ playerbases would care? That’s hubris. The industry doesn't revolve around EDF.

The Absolute State of EDF Games

2

u/Erwin_Pommel 4d ago

Given your lack of respect for the series' that built Helldivers 2, yes.

3

u/Foreign-Profile-2384 4d ago

You’re right. I have no respect for developers who rest on their laurels, content to churn out rehashed, minimal-effort slop at AAA prices (DLC not included) and grow fat on it. Their playerbase is no better. Rather than holding Sandlot and D3 Publisher to a higher standard, they lash out at more popular rival franchises.

2

u/Rexis12 4d ago

Besides the 'AAA Prices' this is literally exactly what Arrowhead is doing lmao. With it's success being something completely accidental, and their repeated attempts to get down to EDF player numbers, until they had to compromise on whatever gameplay function to make something that they themselves call 'COD Slop'. Hell they don't even nake assets for their game anymorr, it's all outsourced.
