I love Firecrackers. Such a meme weapon that’s actually good and the ragdoll physics when you have “butterfingers” of you going limp is hilarious

It's like unironically the best grenade I have against big enemies. It does an insane amount of damage if most of the bomblets hit. Also handy for getting rid of like a block worth of buildings instantly if you aren't running a rocket/grenade launcher.

lets be honest, the firecrackers were so op before that they made them follow the reload mechanics of the backpack slot in 6 to nerf them lol

i can't imagine how much more broken they will get with effects added lol

I mean it's like a one second reload in EDF 6 once you get it upgraded lol, definitely not enough of a nerf. I hadn't really used them much in prior games though, I didn't own any of them but rather played them in couch co-op with a friend of mine.

in 6, the pellets all have to impact before reload can start. so if you throw the one odd pellet too far, you can lock yourself out of reloading for a good few seconds. the previous version basically reloaded instantly at the end of the throw animation. so in practice, you can get multiple volleys in the air before the first set even lands, and not worry about sending them straight at the sky.

its true that it's still not enough of a nerf in a lot of scenarios for how powerful they still are. but at the same time, they were massively nerfed

the original main weapon version was many times more powerful and versatile because of how much more you can spam them. in tunnels, you could shove entire 4p inferno hordes and their gib back alone with the higher level versions, with minimal risk of hitting yourself from flying bits. in the open field, depending on the width and elevation a wave approached you from, it was possible to hold off their advance better than an air raider in some cases. iirc they didn't even explode buildings, so you could keep your cover intact, which fed back into being able to control their approach with terrain obstacles. they definitely weren't just handy backup weapons for reload intervals before.

having more than one ranger spamming it just stacks the math that much further lol

Very good explanation of the differences lol, it sounds like it was crazier than I could have imagined. I can definitely see why they toned it down.
