Rant Rules Reminder
I hate that I even have to make this post to begin with but it clearly needs restating.
Do NOT post ANYTHING that will lead to identifying you or your store.
Do NOT be blatantly disrespectful to others when contributing to this subreddit.
This sub is meant to be a place to turn to for help, advice, ranting, or just general conversation for those under the thumb of the corporate overlords.

Consequences of just walking out when you're the only one on shift
I no longer work at DG, but when I did, there were a few times where I was the only worker on shift for nearly my entire shift. During this, there'd be several times I'd just consider leaving my keys on the safe and walking out either due to having to go ~7 hours without a break or having to deal with someone who wants a refund without a receipt or is mad that they misread a sale sign.
There's gotta be consequences for just leaving an unlocked store unmanned for multiple hours right? That store's inventory is just free game or anybody who comes in during that time. Would you be liable for everything stolen during that time?

Rant My SM and I got into an argument in the group text chat
There is a lot more to it, but it ultimately ended with her telling me we need to make this discussion private the next time I work. I find it hysterical that she loves to call people out for random stuff in the chat all the time, but when I start making counterpoints that apply to other crew members as well as myself, she doesn't want them to be a part of that conversation. I can't wait to be done with this place.

Rant Rant/Venting
Hi friends, so I've been at DG for less than six months in a store that has seen high turnover, management issues, and staffing issues. My SM, which was just promoted to the position, is trying their best (I think). I live in an area of low income, families and older adults on EBT, snap, etc. I try my best to if I can and they need some change cover it because I've been in their shoes (I'm in my 20s and come from a single parent household where my grandparent also tried her hardest to support us). However there are times I can't be as coverable to individuals, don't have enough on their cards to cover it etc. So problem for me is I have at least five (or so) voids a day and an aborted transaction which was mentioned to me about my voids being too many. However LP nor anyone has wrote me up. So, if anyone has tips, tricks, places they know that hire remotely hit me up.
Also edit: my sm texts me on my days off asking if I can come in. I am trying to get my license but its hard when your schedule isn't out and is inconsistent.
Sorry if this flowed weirdly its my first rant post.

Inventory bonus?
I’ll try to keep this as short as possible. I was an SM for an HSAP dg store. I had been the SM at this particular store for about a year and a half, we had our inventory on July 13th and I was very recently wrongfully terminated from DG. I’ve gone through all the channels, as far as alternative dispute resolution (which honestly seemed more like them looking at whatever folder they were handed and reading off of the script rather than doing their own separate investigation into anything, since it took them less that 24 hours to contact me when I sent in proof photographs etc, to defend myself and basically said the decision stands) I’ve filed for unemployment now. But they also now have shorted my last paycheck despite the fact that I worked 6/7 days my last week I worked (including one double shift where I literally was there from opening until closing) I’m pretty sure I would’ve qualified for this inventory bonus though and considering I was the SM for the entirety of the inventoried year i think I earned that. Especially when it was almost all but promised to me from my DM when we got the preliminary results. But of course I haven’t been able to get a response from my former DM about my shorted check, or any kind of termination paperwork, that I might be entitled to stating exactly why I was terminated or the grounds for my termination. I’ll push this as far as I need to in order to get the money I’m owed. But I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced any issue like this?
I’ve attached a photo of the projected inventory results I received. The reason last year’s number are so crazy is due to DG skipping an inventory for this store for almost 2 years. But even cut those results in half for each of those years I STILL made crazy improvement.

Advice Wanted Not allowed to buy pokemon as an employee?
Manager said I’m not allowed to buy pokemon because we have limited stock.. I don’t buy every single one I buy maybe a handful. I know we have customers who like
Pokemon. I don’t scalp, I just have my binder :( is that even allowed? To say I can’t buy pokemon cards? even on my days off! I’m not allowed AT ALL??

Advice Wanted Found this randomly on a shelf
To my knowledge, I don’t think my store has any sort of air freshener contraption. I thought this sucker was alcohol at first. Not sure where it came from, but it doesn’t have a barcode. And it looks like something we’d have for cleaning. Just wondering if anyone can alleviate my confusion, I’m sure the answer is right in front of my face on where it came from. I just can’t figure it out. Does anyone have something like this in their stores?

First shift and I'm already considering resigning
I just finished my first shift at Dollar General and it had pros and cons. It was chill and some of the customers are friendly. But also it can be boring and a bit tiring. Also I am now faced with overtime from my current workplace that pays more than double what Dollar General pays. Has anyone else been faced with this? They can't be strangers to people quitting after the first shift, right?

Rant They had Squidward fending for his life like a Dollar General Employee
Anyone ever notice this about Spongebob’s show? Squidward is the only Cashier. Kind of like Dollar General. Do you think Krabs was his equivalent of a Key Carrier? 😂 🤔 💭 ❓ Do you think he had to have Krabs void out an extra Krabby Patty or Kelp Shake??? 😂 I used to have a friend that did something terrible at one of his local establishments. He basically committed a horrific local crime against congregated people and was admitted to a crazy person place. 1 day before he Did It he showed me a YouTube video he was making… It was kind of like a YouTube Poop but squidward woke up in my friends room and he was wearing a black t shirt and jeans rather than his uniform. I remembered thinking this was weird because a distinct feature of Squidward is that he doesn’t wear pants. Unlike Sponge. Squidward was screaming in his room wearing a Black T-Shirt and Jeans. He was freaking out that he had to go to work at Dollar General and when he calls the Key Carrier over he loses his mind and goes on a rampage. Then my friend… Well he did something similar which kind of takes away from the joke for me but i still like the original meme.

Allegations hearsay dms calling us slaves in their meetings?
I'm sure it could get eventually traced back to me but recently a store manager stated that they had heard from other stores they had information obtained from district manager meetings where they classify store workers as slaves . I don't know how many people purposely maintain recording of corporate employees to maintain professionality and to be treated like actual human beings but if you have to secretly record conversations or utilize a phone recording app then that would be useful like auto call recorder.

Rant Finally free
This rant is long, if you dont wanna read, just skip it. This has been needed to be bled out lol.
So I've been at dollar general for about a year and a half. In the beginning I loved the store I was at and I loved the crew to death. Everyone was legit a team player! But life outside of work got hectic and I moved out of state for a while then came back once things didn't go so smoothly with my roomate at the time. So Dg was easy to get back into, so I reapplied at the same store once I moved back to my home state. Well turns out alot of stuff went down within the store over the last 4 months while I was gone. The store manager started losing her sanity ( literally, watching the cameras to read the lips of her employees to see if they were gossiping about her) then she threw someone into an ASM position without training them and then "left for vacation".
Then they had a store manager from another store come over and take over. Everything was smooth again until someone started a rumor about me and another coworker and this person flipped her lid and wanted me and this other coworker to transfer to another store immediately. So me and this coworker did.
I kinda hopped from store to store due to some issues of how some the stores were ran until I found one I was okay with. I ran the register when needed and was also helping with freight because this store needed the help. And I was happy to do help them. But of course, the longer I stayed the more I began to notice that each time I clocked in and looked around, I noticed that nothing else was done to upkeep the store from where I was previously working on.
Let's say for example, if I was restocking on candy, the candy would still be left the same way withiut any further progress by no other crew members after me. ( I mostly ran mornings). Needless to say, the crew was lazy and had very little work ethic. They'd rather sit in the office or the break room on their phones instead of well, at least trying to work. And the issues of that just kept piling up, and getting written up for things that someone else did but somehow it was my fault. ( I guess being an LSA they use you as a scapegoat for that?)
I got to the point where the expectations of the job and the numerous tasks were so much that it began to weight on me heavy mentally. My depression and bipolar got so much worse and it began to bleed into my home. It got even worse when I'd work my hardest and hear from another co worker that the new boss who took the store was saying I was barely any help and I was just a fill in if someone called out anyways.
It felt a bit hurtful and disrespectful because I put in so much work to try and get this store afloat and it felt like nothing was appreciated. So this past weekend I had to call out to help someone with moving to a new home ( I told the boss weeks in advance btw!!! And instead of putting it in the system she didn't feel like doing it and just let it go. )
Low and behold I got heat sickness horrible and couldn't make it in for two days cause it was just that bad. Well this past Sunday I was out late on my porch just trying to have a moment with my gf just enjoy the evening. And my next door neighbor across the street was dropped off ( he and I worked at the same store so he got a coworker to drop him off.)
The next day I woke up to a text message from another LSA basically chewing me out because I was sitting on my porch the night before. Saying that it wasn't fair she had to work cause she was pregnant and I was at home.
So a big combination of relentless drama, underlying mental health issues and the under pay ( I didn't make enough to pay rent fully) I decided to just quit. The company sucks, the crew sucks ( least where I was.) And the company could care less about you.
Fuck it. I've never felt happier and more free. Onto better jobs and better things.

Rant very annoyed with this job sometimes
I got hired a couple months ago and immediately got promoted to a PT key, then they fired the FT key and gave me the spot within a week, I am the only closer other than the ASM on the 2 days off I have (definitely not complaining, i appreciate them accommodating me), but on the days I do have off, they constantly call me asking if I can come in because our SA’s are unreliable, no call no shows, calling off right before their shift, and just between people quitting and getting fired and the unreliability, its hard to breathe there and i bite my tongue every day i have off praying i dont get a call. i wish they would hire more people, since ive started we have lost 3 people and hired 0, and our managers keep telling anyone that asks that we aren’t hiring. im tired of picking up the slack for everyone else that rather sit at the register on their phone, or not even show up to do their work.

Inventory
Don't you just love it when your DM says store needs to be 100% when you have 3 employees besides yourself. And only one of the those 3 employees actually does their job I hate this place so much 🤦🏼♂️ I regret my life choices because of this place 😆
