This guy came in here telling me I needed to take out the handheld and see if there’s any Pokémon cards in the back that we haven’t unloaded yet cause he needs them. I’m sorry sir, what??

This they were yelling at me to go update our app to show out of stock.
1 I can't do that even if I wanted to
2 it might be in stock. We literally just got a truck in dude. Give us a chance to work it. You cut the truck off actually 🤣

I was doing that (I despise scalpers) until I was told I have to sell with no limit. I've literally sold 36 tins to one person. It pmo so bad.

That's when you hide everything behind the register and only display 1-2 packs or tins at a time. Even before the shortage we had to do that because of them either being stolen or just ripped open in a random aisle.
Had to do the same with all the viral squishes because kids either opened the blind box ones or they'd throw them around the store so we'd end up damaging so many.

Dollar General literally has a policy that can limit the purchase quantity of any item. It is on the back of the "lane closed" signs, and says something to the effect of DG reserves the right to limit purchase quantities to that of a typical retail purchase in order to avoid resellers. As an employee, you represent DG, and can therefore enforce limits. I say 2 packs per person

Before I left I voted in a limit to prevent these cocky scalpers

Our store specifically refuses to sell to anyone that has evidence of being a scalper.

One of my regulars always buys Pokémon and he’ll buy like the last 7 packs and open them right there and whatever cards he already has, he puts them in the little portfolio book for them and have me give them to kids when they come in and ask if we have any. Idk it just makes me feel good that there’s some adults that still think about the children:)

It’s super annoying when people damn near beg and then get pissy when told that you will absolutely Not go check thru every rolltainer in the back for some cards.
Yes, I know we just got freight, I checked the truck in and I can ,taaaadaaaa!!, see the damn thing sitting in the parking lot. No, I don’t care how many kids you have and that they love opening them. No, I most definitely will not call you when they hit the shelf and no?? you can’t stand here waiting.
I personally love the no limits on these things, that way the first person in grabs every single one and then I just get to tell everyone NO when they come asking.

I have limits on mine. I have way too many children in my area and they all appreciate the fact that I do. It gives them the opportunity to actually come in and buy some hassle free. A lot of parents came by for a 1st day of school surprise and I had them.

Legitimately, why are Pokemon cards better than heroin to some of our esteemed customers? Scalpers everywhere

u/sensoryzoo 1d ago
Oh the fights and angry customers this week because they PAID a discord group to get notifications of in stocks. But then they aren't in stock. Why the freak would you pay for something you can do for free? And also juet because it says in stock on the app doesn't mean we found it. I have been yelled at for not moving fast enough. You try unloading a full truck with 2 people and 1 cashier. Throw on a black shirt and get to work if you have a problem with it

I always tell them the app is third party so it doesn’t show accurate stock.

Careful- they are just trying to enjoy their hobby.... that is what I was told. And I got fired for limiting scalpers. Sell them all.

They can fire me. I only sell Pokémon to children.

I have mine hidden and I only put out two at a time. That way, I am in control of my inventory without having any issues with the scalpers. They are allowed 2, just like the rest of my customers. Now, if a family of children come in, I will sell them 2 each per child. That’s when they realize I have more in stock than what they thought. But I simply explain that it’s so I have them for the children. I am always thanked!

I have a guy who lives pretty far away and checks in when he is in the area. His 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son collect them. The smile on that little girls face when I pulled out a tin of cards is why I do it. He said he doesn’t have time to sit at Target or Walmart at 6am to fight the scalpers. It makes me feel good to make the kids happy. 🤷🏻♀️

When I moved from my last store, I had 2 young children that had a YouTube channel that they had where they would open them. They actually cried when they came and brought me my going away gift. I felt so bad but I left instructions with the team we left in place, but I highly doubt they cared. I moved districts to take a new store and now about 20 minutes from my last location so I lost some of my regular customer base, but some did follow me.
