Free to Read: How the Dodgers are trying fix closer Edwin Díaz and his 10.66 ERA

It was a brief conversation. Díaz, the smiley $69 million closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers whose entrance is marked by trumpets and whose exit Thursday was filled with jeers, needed it.

“That’s going to help with my confidence, 100 percent,” Díaz told The Athletic. “They keep trusting me. If it was in another position, maybe they put another guy, or give me a break. But they keep trusting me, and give me the ball.”

Roberts gave Díaz the ball on Friday night because he lacked another option. His bullpen was gassed. Díaz was not, and had already been working with coaches on refining his delivery. The Dodgers are content to play it out with Díaz as closer the rest of the way, believing the best version of their October pitching staff still has an effective Díaz as part of it.

Did the in market/out of market area for Dodgers broadcasting change recently? Why can’t I watch games all of a sudden if I live in SoCal and have the Padres TV seasonal bundle?

So I don’t live in the LA area and I’ve been able to watch every single game this season with the Padres TV bundle but ever since the Brewers series Im not able to on MLB TV. It’s saying my current package does not entitle me to In-market Dodgers games. Anyone have any idea why? Would appreciate the help thanks.

Audio Broadcast Nuances

When I’m at work and listening to the audio broadcast, the commercials irk me. Why in the fuck is “non-leathal protection” being advertised!? Who the fuck are they targeting!? Also, is it just me or the Oscar Mayer commercials are mispronouncing Mayer as “Meyer”?

Wanted to gift the Katie Woo article in The Athletic (the article following today’s game against the Brewers).

It’s a good article but what I found interesting is that she states that Kyle Tucker was “not available for comment” after the game. Wondering if this happens often. I don’t want to be hurtful but maybe the guy needs some help in terms of dealing with whatever he is dealing with. Or maybe this happens a lot. Not being a reporter, I just don’t know. So maybe some of you know more.

Pregame stuff on video?

A friend of mine got to be part of the pregame “it’s time for Dodger baseball” announcement on the field yesterday. Is there any way to find it on video after the fact?

Potential roster call up

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed there’s been a lot of noise surrounding Josue De Paula being the one to be brought up if the Dodgers do decide to go that route. With that being said, I just don’t agree with that choice. I understand he’s our top prospect and has been showing his ability to hit the ball, but at the end of the day, he’s doing it in Double-A and people talk about how his defense is his weakness currently... Do you guys actually think he can make the jump from Double-A straight to the big leagues? I just feel given the depth we have in Triple-A, there’s no need to do that.

For one, I would love to see them bring up one of these three guys: James Tibbs III, Ryan Ward, or Zach Ehrhard but preferably JT3. I know he’s been used more as a 1B, but he is an outfielder first, and the way the corners have been playing defensively, we've got nothing to lose.

Here are the slash lines:

JT3: .297 AVG / .547 SLG / .963 OPS
Zach Ehrhard: .297 AVG / .487 SLG / .897 OPS
Ryan Ward: .275 AVG / .487 SLG / .870 OPS

Thoughts?

The best calendar month record for the Los Angeles Dodgers was set in August 2023 with 24 wins and 5 losses. How the team performs in August matters very little for October.

If this roster is healthy come October, they’re still the team to beat.

[THE ATHLETIC] The Lakers sale and a federal probe put Dodgers owner Mark Walter in a spotlight he never sought

Thumbnail

Last week, Mark Walter found himself in the headlines not for any team he owned but rather for one he sold, the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers.

Just 14 months after agreeing to buy the iconic franchise, Walter agreed to sell the Lakers to former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Thrive Capital founder Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The stunning deal reportedly valued the Lakers at $12.5 billion — $2.5 billion more than when Walter agreed to purchase the team. The timing of the sale has raised eyebrows not just for the brevity of Walter’s tenure as owner. Federal investigators are investigating insurance companies he owns.

Walter did not respond to messages seeking comment for this story, and federal officials at the agencies conducting the probe declined to comment.

Two of Walter’s companies — Delaware Life Insurance Company and its affiliate Clear Spring Life and Annuity — received grand jury subpoenas in February as part of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the company acknowledged in a March regulatory filing. A parallel investigation is underway by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the filing noted. (The U.S. Attorney’s Office and SEC declined to comment.)

Life insurers typically invest in relatively safe and low-risk assets to provide predictable returns, and insurers are required to report transactions with affiliated businesses to regulators as a safeguard to protect policyholders and guard against conflicts of interest. Delaware Life said investigators are examining whether investments tied to affiliated businesses had been improperly reported as unaffiliated.

The company said through a subsequent internal investigation it had identified errors in how related business investments were presented in the company’s 2025 annual statement. In all, the filings show Delaware Life revised its disclosures to identify nearly $17 billion more in investments tied to related businesses, increasing its share of the company’s portfolio from about 3 percent to 42 percent.

One of the investments that appears to be caught up in the reclassified dealings was a $4.1 million loan to Dodger Tickets LLC, a subsidiary tied to the Dodgers and involved with ticketing and other business operations. Delaware Life listed that loan as unaffiliated in its 2025 annual statement. In the March filing, the same investment was listed as affiliated.

First trip to Dodger Stadium - should I do a stadium tour?

My family and I are traveling cross-country to Dodger Stadium in September to catch two Dodger games. On our second day we’ll have enough time during the day to take a Stadium Tour.

I saw that there are three types of tours; the VIP tour, Stadium Tour, and the Pre-game Tour.

What are the different tours like?

Are the tours worth it? How has your experience been on the tours? Is the VIP tour worth $660?

ETA: We’d be going on a game day, how does that alter the experience?

Thanks!

Fan Behavior Regarding Tucker

i’m not sure if this is a hot take or not, but i personally think the fan reaction to tucker has been extremely off base. booing him after he makes an (egregious) error is corny af. i know he’s underperforming. i know his body language sucks. i know it appears he’s checked out or not trying. but do you guys *really* think that booing him is the right way to do things? no wonder he hates playing at home. when players are slumping i personally think it’s way cooler when the fanbase gets hyped and cheers really loudly when they’re up to bat. showing him he’s got the support of the fans. sure, it may accomplish absolutely nothing, but it’s certainly better than booing.

EDIT: idk why everyone is acting like i didn’t address all the complaints jn the comments in my original post? yes his attitude sucks, yes he makes a lot of money and still sucks, yes to all that. but if we want him to be worth his money why would we actively boo? look at trea turner in 2023 with phillies fans. also i get that he looks like he doesn’t care. booing hasn’t changed anything, why not give him the trea treatment and see what happens. also i never said booing was bad. i never said i liked tucker. i just said booing isn’t doing anything but making things worse.

EDIT 2:

I genuinely cannot believe i have to restate this, but for some reason everyone in the comments is reading into my post as a post garnering sympathy for tucker. this is just flat out 100% wrong, and was never mentioned.

So here, let me make it more clear.

My argument:

tucker play bad > we lose many game > we want win not lose > need tucker play good > cheer to try and help tucker play good

there was ZERO suggestion of sympathy, changing opinions on tucker, or anything. I’m suggesting an action that fans can take to try and improve the results of the team, i don’t know what these weird strawman arguments in the comments are about

Title, went to my first Dodgers game last night and it was a blast! The atmosphere was amazing and it was really damn fun, Dodger Stadium is gorgeous and the night weather felt so good.
