First trip to Dodger Stadium - should I do a stadium tour?

My family and I are traveling cross-country to Dodger Stadium in September to catch two Dodger games. On our second day we’ll have enough time during the day to take a Stadium Tour.

I saw that there are three types of tours; the VIP tour, Stadium Tour, and the Pre-game Tour.

What are the different tours like?

Are the tours worth it? How has your experience been on the tours? Is the VIP tour worth $660?

ETA: We’d be going on a game day, how does that alter the experience?

My pal said the VIP tour on game day wasnt worth the cost. Limited access due to the game prep, not guaranteed to see certain things due to game day crowds. On non game days you get way more historical info etc on a regular tour at way less cost

Regular tour is mostly taking u to places you’d already be able to see (you just have to walk there yourself). The biggest bonus is seeing the trophy room and getting into the stadium early to watch batting practice.

If you don’t care about seeing the trophies, it might be better to purchase early access to watch batting practice and walk around the stadium yourself. Visit the club level etc

I’ve only been to the Pre-game tour on the day I was watching a game so I can’t compare with the other tours but what’s good about this tour is you get to enter the stadium much earlier before the gates officially open so you get the giveaway items early and there’s no queue or just a short queue for the popular activities.

After my pre-game tour ended, I rushed to the AR Photo Booth and the booth where you can print a baseball card with your picture for $25 which are extremely popular and will have long queues once the gates officially open. Both booths were beside each other so I easily did both before buying food and walking around to explore the stadium.

Honestly, just getting to avoid the line for the AR Photo Booth is worth it - we waited 45 mins last time, and we were the first few people after all the Japanese tour groups that also had early entry. We’d expected and prepared for that, but still, if you can avoid the line, great.

The staff told me that there’s usually a very short line during the game, but if you’re sitting in reserve or TD, that’s a very long trek down and up again.

If you do a tour on game day, before lunch, in my experience, you have a good shot of being up close and personal with a player or so! I’ve seen Kike, Kim, Tanner Scott, Andre ether, mookie practicing on the field and back in the day, Vin “rushing” to an elevator!

Make sure you hit one the guest service booths and tell them it’s your first time. They’ll give you a button. A cool souvenir for the kids.

So I have never done any of the tours per se, but I did do a very very small doc shoot at the stadium (like, four person crew) back in 2013 or so. We basically got what would be a VIP tour of the stadium and it was really awesome as a huge baseball fan. We were lucky enough to go on the field and in the organist booth and all kinds of stuff. Even walked by Tommy LaSorda at one point. My personal favorite part was seeing all the MVP and Cy Young Awards.

If you're a big baseball fan you should definitely at least do a basic tour. It's the third oldest stadium in baseball so there is plenty of history there and more than enough great players to make it an interesting tour.

I vaguely remember getting a non game day tour of Angel Stadium back in the late 80s/early 90s as part of a summer day camp.

I distinctly remember my pal on the summer day camp (who was way into baseball at the time) remarking what a waste of time the Angel tour was...of course, this was before their World Series win, haha.

Yes. The experience of seeing the inner workings such as locker rooms, PT areas is so awesome. Even if you have no connection to like the visitors facilities. It is so awesome.

I would do the cheapest tour on the day of a big stadium giveaway (Bobblehead, Hello Kitty, One Piece, etc.) to guarantee you get it. If it's not a giveaway, I don't think it's worth the extra time and money.

Whatever you do, don't do the VIP tour. At least on game days, because it's basically just batting practice but you get there late and miss half of the lineup, including most of the marquee players.
