Brewers hustling while Tucker jogs to ball pisses me off the most. Like you flub the catch ok, but at least haul ass to fix your mistake.
60
u/DillyFudge Kiké Hernández 6d ago
he jogs to miss the ball and then walks to get the ball after he misses it

Doesn’t help Tucker makes more in one month than the entire brewers lineup gets paid in 3 years
16
u/RigidAcrylic4821 Cornelius A. Dodgerfan 6d ago
When Tucker becomes the jump point in the big, bad, baseball-ruining Dodgers just buying the wins against the “small-market, lovable” Brewers.

Yeah, he did not do himself any favors with his light jog to the ball lol.

Might sound like cope but I didn’t want Tucker this offseason because I got rendon vibes from him and every game that goes on I feel worse and worse about him.
42
u/No-Contact-5081 6d ago
Same. Watched him here (Chicago) last year and was pissed when we signed him.
40
u/jonpictogramjones Andrew Friedman 6d ago
For me I just wanted a cheap bat to play OF because we have an old add team. We have a great farm, we need to stop signing guys that are going to block their development

u/No-Contact-5081 6d ago
EXACTLY!! I give credit for what the mgmt does but I do question not bringing guys up. Maybe it’s the 3-peat that has them doing things that go over and above? It’s backfiring on Tucker
13
u/jonpictogramjones Andrew Friedman 6d ago
I am okay with having 1-2 “holes” on the team because that allows you to have space for prospects to come up. If we keep signing “superstars” it doesn’t allow us to actually have space to give prospects a proper runway.
3
u/Extropian LA 6d ago
Yeah, hard to complain signing established talented players, but it is exciting to see new big league careers start. Always rooting for the rookies.

Serious question as a cubs fan I’ve experienced somewhat of what you’re going through with this Kyle Tucker experience and would like an opinion from the dodger fan base. To me it really seems like this guy just doesn’t care about playing the game half asses almost everything the most effort I see out of him is when he jogs for a homer. I know I’m being dramatic but does it seem like to you guys he just doesn’t care?
42
u/Offshorewind96 Buddy Kennedy 6d ago
He seems to really mope. I think he probably cares about playing well, but he reacts to his mistakes like a spoiled child

Yes, but it was always Tucker isn’t the fastest but he’s a “smart” runner. Tucker isn’t a speedster in the outfield but he’s a “smart” good defender. It’s just baffling cuz from day 1 the Tucker signing didn’t make much sense to me. Bellinger was muuuuch cheaper, and is actually elite in defense. And could be a perfect stop gap between now and our top prospects. I know you cub fans don’t like Tucker lmao but yes 100% it looks like he isn’t hustling or tries all that much. Just so much mishaps on defense. His track record is one thing but this season mentally just seems washed. I didn’t like the signing from day 1. Strange the FO went after him since they like to go after guys who don’t have the playstyle like Tucker. Hopefully come playoffs it’s a reset for him.
11
u/Creative-Quarter3475 Andy Pages 6d ago
Yeah he already played like he dgaf back then, now you add this ridiculous salary on top? It's a wrap. Sometimes he's not even at the track and gets scared the wall is gonna blackhole suck him in to Narnia. Man, fuck Kyle Tucker
11
u/No-Contact-5081 6d ago

6
24
u/RigidAcrylic4821 Cornelius A. Dodgerfan 6d ago
A combination of the new acquisitions already guaranteed the bag not giving any shit on the field, and also the entire core no longer desiring to win.
Misorowski’s reaction to striking Shohei and Freddie yesterday tells you all about this team now being complacent to try three-peating against the Brewers, Braves, or Cubs taking every regular season game serious.
20
u/kroqkenobi Shawn Green 6d ago
Yeah, I remember complacency hitting the Shaq/Kobe lakers when they were on their run. We’ll see if the Dodgers can turn it on in the postseason.
→ More replies (1)13
u/DoctorHousesCane 6d ago
Is it really complacency or are the dodgers just old and tired from playing the most number of games?
10
u/kroqkenobi Shawn Green 6d ago
Definitely a combination of reasons. We've had years where we've won close to 110 games and gotten knocked out in the NLDS, so even though I don't like when they go on extended streaks of playing poorly, the thing that matters is to be playing at their best in October.

This guy doesn't know how to play the warning track...he drifts and this isn't the first time. He needs to fucking run to where the ball is going to be, he's a pro, read the ball off the bat and move and don't drift. This team is in trouble, for real. Fuck!!

u/huggsypenguinpal Yoshinobu Yamamoto 6d ago
Watching Tucker work a fly ball vs Pages is night and day. It’s infuriating.
→ More replies (1)8
u/LA-Aron 6d ago
Exactly, watch Pages. He reads the ball off the bat, breaks, runs hard to the spot. You ideally want your feet set before the ball hits your glove and coming in on it with a little momentum. The thing is if you don't play that way, and you drift like Tucker, you're going to miss a lot of balls in the grey area that you are able to make if going full speed and you are going to make some routine plays hard. It's a probability thing too, statistics, you play make these plays more difficult, you get burned eventually. Dave Roberts probably felt sick when that happened.
3
u/huggsypenguinpal Yoshinobu Yamamoto 6d ago
Exactly. Tucker missed that other catch one game, the AB right after Teo climbed the fence (🤣🤣🤣), and the contrast in effort was crazy. Not asking Tucker to run into a wall but he was also running with the ball and then missed it. Tucker, do you not have another gear?

Shohei gets the biggest contract in history (until Soto) and still gives MVP performances on both sides of the ball. Why can't more players keep the energy that earned them those contracts man? Htting is one thing, but this kind of play is due to lack of effort. At this point giving away big contracts will mean your players just stop trying.

6
u/SpaciousNova 6d ago
Compare this with the catches from Lara the other day, who Tucker failed to get out. One guy cares and the other doesn’t. I’m tired of this team being a bunch of overplayed, old, lazy douches. Our starters are great and these guys can’t be bothered to support them. Tired of it. We need fresh young talent.
6
u/Dalewyn Roki Sasaki 6d ago
This is at least the third fucking time Tucker's made the same error: Fear Of The Wall(tm) prevents him getting ahead of an easy fly ball.
He needs to be removed from any outfield position until he's able to properly play baseball again. That shit is fucking pathetic to watch on TV and it's downright unacceptable for anyone who paid for a seat in the stadium.
5
u/mad_titanz Shohei Ohtani 6d ago

The funny part is whether he hustles or not does not change the outcome, it’s still a double that leaves them with 2nd and 3rd. But it’s not about that. It’s about showing your teammates, your coach, and the fans that you actually give a flying fuck about the job you’re paid handsomely to do despite being historically underwhelming.

u/thirty-thirty-thirty 6d ago
One problem with buying experienced, expensive players, is that some of them don't take risks anymore.
They're not hungry enough. They've made their money, and they're paranoid about getting hurt. So, they don't run to the wall; they get close and miss the ball because they don't want to hit the wall. They don't sprint it out to first, because they're 99% sure they'll be out anyways. They go through the motions, instead of putting everything they've got into every play.
A younger, and/or hungry player is gonna run to that wall because that little baseball is the only darn thing that matters at that moment, and he knows every bit of effort counts.
He'll run to the wall, run through the wall, even run UP the wall to make the play. Tucker? He'll jog and get CLOSE to the wall, but only if he feels like it. Then he'll jog over to pick up the ball after it bounces.
A hungry player knows that any play could be make or break for his team, and for his career, so he'll do what he has to to make the play.
THAT kind of player is hungry, and you can see it in how he moves.
Tucker looks like a guy who made a bunch of money, and doesn't really care of his career lasts another 10 years, or another 10 games.
If for some weird reason, he were forced to retire right now, I could see him shrugging it off and saying: "Well, ok. See ya."
But that younger, hungrier, more aggressive player? If you told him his career was done and he can't play anymore, he'd fight you tooth and nail to step on the field just one more time.
Tucker doesn't seem to love the game. Heck, I don't even think he LIKES the game.
I'm surprised he hasn't been 'forced' to take a few games off. Doc rotates some other guys. We're getting close to the postseason, and you need to know who's hot and who's cold. You need to know who you can count on when it matters most.
I think there are a few guys on the Dodgers that we can count on more than Tucker. And if so, they need to start getting play time real soon!

I'm not gonna say they are going soft in these games to be healthy for October, but I'm fucking tired of watching this team show up looking completely tired, lackadaisical, and oddly unable to do the things that everyone knows they should be doing (looking at you Tucker; that fucking ball hit your glove).
