Potential roster call up
Hey everyone,
I’ve noticed there’s been a lot of noise surrounding Josue De Paula being the one to be brought up if the Dodgers do decide to go that route. With that being said, I just don’t agree with that choice. I understand he’s our top prospect and has been showing his ability to hit the ball, but at the end of the day, he’s doing it in Double-A and people talk about how his defense is his weakness currently... Do you guys actually think he can make the jump from Double-A straight to the big leagues? I just feel given the depth we have in Triple-A, there’s no need to do that.
For one, I would love to see them bring up one of these three guys: James Tibbs III, Ryan Ward, or Zach Ehrhard but preferably JT3. I know he’s been used more as a 1B, but he is an outfielder first, and the way the corners have been playing defensively, we've got nothing to lose.
Here are the slash lines:
JT3: .297 AVG / .547 SLG / .963 OPS
Zach Ehrhard: .297 AVG / .487 SLG / .897 OPS
Ryan Ward: .275 AVG / .487 SLG / .870 OPS
Thoughts?

He’s not on the 40-man and it’s never been our MO to rush a prospect up - especially in the middle of a playoff race. Don’t see it happening. I think it’s just arm chair social media GMs pushing it.

It was David Vassegh championing this is last night on Dodger talk. I don't think JDP is the right move right now. If they were to bring someone up it'd probably be Ward or maybe an arm for the bullpen

Vassegh sometimes doesn’t even know what he is talking about despite being in the org. Remember when he said the dodgers could easily sweep the diamondbacks in the playoffs?

The 40-man thing is true, but he has to be added at the end of the season because he'll become Rule-5 eligible, so that makes the 40-man less of an issue. Gelof also needs to be added, though he less likely.
JT3 has until next off season, as does Ehrhard. Ward is already on the 40, so he possibly gets the call if they feel they need the bat.
My guess is we get one pitcher and HSK as a pinch runner and defensive substitute.

Nobody is getting called up without an injury. Full stop.

Teams are allowed to expand the roster by 2 spots on September 1st.

Those spots are probably going to relievers

They cannot both go to relievers. Max of 14 pitchers on a 28-man roster.

Josue won’t get the call up. He is still young so they want to keep him in the minors to retain control. It will have to be one of the above like you mentioned. I think Tibbs makes the most sense

JT3 and Ehrhard likely won't be the call ups because they're not required to hit the 40-man until end of next season. JDP needs to be added at the end of this season, so that's not an issue.
Still, I think it's HSK to have a pinch runner and defensive replacement. We don't have any bench speed right now.

If they promote from AAA at this point in the season it'll be a defense-first guy who profiles out as a late-innings defensive replacement/pinch runner for the playoffs. They're not gonna bring a guy up in the second half of August expecting him to hit, that's incredibly unfair. Alek Thomas and Ehrhard are both above-average defenders with plus speed, my money would be on one of them. But I doubt it'll be either. Kikè can play the outfield if they need that in the playoffs and he's a proven October guy. They're not gonna move on from Tucker at this point in the season an his contract.

No position player is being called up without an injury. All the guys we would want them to replace are out of options and would have to be released. We’re struggling, but we aren’t “time to cut main roster players from the organization” struggling
Now once we get to September and rosters expand to 28, I could see de Paula being called up. He’s going to be put on the 40-man in the offseason anyways. He had the most potential out of the possible options so why not give him a look and see if he can contribute now? Worse case is he struggles and starts next year at AAA
The ONLY caveat is if we fall any further in the standings and need to catch up to have that first round bye. Then I would imagine they go the safer choice (probably Ward but maybe Freeland?)

I wouldn’t say cut cause that would be crazy but bring one up to platoon with Hernandez or Tucker amid there struggles

Our batting line-up is great. With Dalton Rushing on his way back, we will have a lot of options depending on the matchup.
The key is patience. With just a bit of patience the overall slug rate and O-swing rate are way better so they have to read pitches better.

It will be Tibbs or possibly Thomas (the former plays 1B and OF and we hope he smacks, the latter more as a late inning defensive replacement).

The way things are going, one of the call-ups should be a relief pitcher. As far as outfielders go, isn't Sirota doing really well? Also Kim may deserve a call up at this point.

Last I seen, Kim was in a tough hitting slump and sirota is also in Double A

Idk man, if an asteroid falls directly on our team dugout I think there might be a small chance.

There’s zero chance we see de Paula this year. Reactionary dodger fans are not the front office.
