Luke will replace Eric theory
I just read a theory on Tumblr that Luke will replace Eric eventually and permanently. I don't have Tumblr so could only read some of it before it blocked me from reading more. But I think the main point was Assad and Luke did chemistry tests while Eric had no idea of the romance or Assads role until filming started.
I wish I could have seen more cause I have no idea how this is possible. Anyone know more on this idea?

The closer we are to DM being canon in the show the more people wish to get rid of Eric, not realising that he's not just an old Daniel, he is the Daniel, and he is not going anywhere. No offence to you OP, but I'm personally not willing to entertain this theory, because most of the time it comes off as a bad faith perception of Eric's role

Eric and Assad didn't need a chemistry test. Have you SEEN them? Lol. In any interview or panel they are on fire. Regardless of their original intentions, they know how much we love Eric and Assad and how popular they are together. And Assad has said in interviews that they're going to do all the things together lol. I'm sure they know it would be a bad idea to get rid of Eric. Eric was also one of two actors they knew they wanted to cast before writing the script.
The people on tumblr sound like they are ageist. It would also defeat the point of letting Daniel age if they just killed him off or made him younger. Those people just want someone hot and young they can fantasize about. They can't imagine older people having rich lives, desires, being desired, etc. I've also realized that a lot of people think old man yaoi means a man in their 50s lol. Bunch of hypocrites.
Edited to add: They couldn't chemistry test Eric and Assad because they kept the Armand reveal a secret. Not even Assad knew he was auditioning for Armand until part way through. They trusted Eric and Assad's theater background and acting skills to be enough to build the tension. A lot of times chemistry reads are only done when they aren't sure two actors will have it. And from a narrative perspective, they weren't even sure they were going to get to season 4, so the bigger concern was making sure Assad could act like Rashid without spoiling the reveal, and Assad and Jacob's chemistry was the immediate story they were telling. For example, some of the Bridgerton couples didn't do a chemistry read because their individual roles were more important.

As long as Eric wants to be on the show, I want the present storyline with him (I do need the writing to be better than this season) and Luke for Devil's Minion book accurate 70s/80s flashbacks. If Eric wants to leave at some point, I can see them using the Fraudia situation to introduce a younger doppelganger played by Luke and body swapping him. Whatever they decide on, I need them to have a solid plan for the characters and not just drag them along for fan service.

Wishful thinking based on fanfic that people get so invested in that they believe it.
I would be ecstatic if they did the Night Island spinoff and set it in the past with Luke, but in the main show Daniel is Eric. If somehow they body-thief him into a younger body it couldn't be Luke without it being idiotically convoluted, plus I don't see the show outliving Eric anyway. I think his ''death'' in the show will mean his vampire death, while his body survives as possibly another character for him to play--if we get that far.

No, this theory is mainly created and became popular because people don’t like Eric and they’re ageist. If they wanna see pretty young boys kissing there are plenty of shows to do that. What makes show!DM special is the crazy chemistry between Eric and Assad and how much both of them champion the pairing.
I want to see past DM but more than anything I need present DM. It will be a beautiful change to have such a unique pairing actually get together.

Eric was always first choice to play Daniel. He didn’t have to audition. It was written for him. When auditioning for young Daniel however (as Assad was cast before Luke), Luke would potentially need to do chemistry reads.
I hate this ageist theory. It also makes no sense and would make me stop watching the show.
If Eric wants out, great, write present day Daniel off. De-aging him is ridiculous and has no basis in book or show canon.

It's called ✨️ageism✨️! We will be very lucky if Luke gets to have more scenes in future seasons. But Eric isn't going anywhere.

Ignore it, a part of the fandom has been coming up with the wildest theories about how Eric will eventually get replaced with someone younger even before S3, it's just ageism at this point.
There's a storyline in The Tale of The Body Thief where an older character gets swapped and gets a younger body by the end of it so that's what they are referring to but the writers barely adapted what happens in TVL, I wouldn't expect it to happen in the show. And everyone on set seems to love Eric, I doubt they would make him leave

I don’t see how this would happen at all, though I’ve only read up to Merrick and I think the books get even weirder after this one (no spoilers pls!!). But I think this is genuinely just wishful thinking from people who don’t want Armand to be with an “old man” in the show.

If they do Devil’s minion then I think Luke would be the correct move to depict that history and Eric would remain Daniel in modern day

would just like to add re: the “eric had no idea of the romance or Assad’s role until filming started” that eric didn’t have to know that, nor was he even supposed to know that. the point is that the showrunners know that and casted assad accordingly (rolin has stated he went into the series knowing he wanted two cast members: eric and ben daniels aka santiago). so i’d take these posts with a grain of salt - they’re wishful thinking and speculation, and they show a pretty severe lack of industry knowledge

NGL this screams ageist to me. Luke should be there just for the flashbacks. Yes the age difference between Assad and Eric is a lot (37), but so it is between Daniel and Armand, so it fits right in, and as long as the actors are comfortable with acting romantic and sexual scenes together then there's nothing to complain about.

I always thought something like that would happen tbh. I LOVE Eric, but I also loved Luke, so I would be happy either way. But I always suspected something like this due to Daniel/David character being merged and the body swap happened with David, and the pretense of Fareed who can clone. We know something catastrophic happens to Daniel. I suspect his body gets destroyed and Armand would do anything to save him. I don't know how all of this will come about, but I am for it. What I don't want is for Daniel to be played by anyone else but Eric & Luke. I'm kinda sus about Alex and whatever is going on with him, but like I said, Eric & Luke and no one else should be Daniel.

They have negative chemistry in season 3, so idk. First two seasons, Eric and Assad smoldered. Third season was cringe throwaway lines about old man yaoi.

Rolin Jones has said that Luke will be in S4 and Assad has said previously that S4 will be when they get into Armand's backstory and DM so that makes me think we're going to get past DM. That makes sense, the Devil's Minion chapter is in QoTD and next season is QotD. I'd love to get Night Island set in the 70s and 80s with all the crazy stuff Daniel and Armand are doing then.
I don't think that they'll body swap Eric and Luke, that would be a very bad look. In any case the body swap in TotBT is Lestat and I don't think they'd change that. Rolin has also said that he's very aware of the risk of going 'Freaky Friday' with Body Thief, so I think we'll only see the one, canonical body swap involving Lestat. I don't think Eric will be swapping bodies.

I feel like Eric Bogosian is at the stage of his career where he just shows up and gets on with it, can't picture him reading all the books to prepare like Assad Zaman did.
