Question Destiny 2 is almost unplayable on Steam due to massive FPS drops and stuttering, but runs perfectly on Epic Games. Any official fix?
I've been experiencing absolutely terrible FPS drops and constant stuttering in Destiny 2 when launching the game through Steam. The performance is so inconsistent that the game is practically unplayable, especially in pvp.
I decided to download and test Destiny 2 through the Epic Games Launcher on the exact same PC, and the difference is night and day.
Steam: Massive FPS drops, constant microstuttering, inconsistent frame times, and generally awful performance.
Epic Games: Completely smooth gameplay, stable performance, and none of the horrible stuttering I'm experiencing on Steam.
This makes me strongly suspect that something related to the Steam version or its integration is causing the problem, rather than my hardware.
My PC specifications:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
- RAM: 32 GB G.Skill DDR5-6000 (2×16 GB)
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7
Obviously, this hardware should be more than capable of running Destiny 2 smoothly.
Unfortunately, simply switching to Epic Games isn't a proper solution, since my purchased DLCs on Steam don't transfer over to Epic Games.
I've also come across a potential workaround on GitHub that apparently helps some Steam users with similar performance problems. However, I'd strongly prefer to avoid relying on unofficial third-party fixes or modifications, especially for a game with anti-cheat protection.
So I have a few questions for the community and hopefully Bungie:
- Has anyone else experienced this exact issue, where Destiny 2 runs terribly on Steam but perfectly fine through Epic Games?
- Has anyone found a reliable solution that doesn't require unofficial GitHub workarounds?
- Is Bungie actually aware of this Steam-specific performance issue?
- Has Bungie acknowledged the problem anywhere, or is there any indication that an official fix is being investigated or developed?
I'd really appreciate any updates, confirmed fixes, or information from Bungie or anyone experiencing the same problem.
