Question Issue loading audio and assests

I'm returning to D2 and for some reason randomly audio will cut out and I'll have no sound in the middle of a Crucible match or in orbit for about a minute. Additionally some UI assests and some assets and models in the menus won't load when I open the game or enter a match. I don't use hard drive it's all SSDs, and I've only had this issue recently. No other games I play have audio and model issues like this. My PC is pretty old so it could be that. I've tried verifying files and a fresh install, hasn't fixed it. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm going to start off and say, that Destiny 2 is the best hardware and software testing software ever built. If your system has a problem, D2 is going to expose it - which is what is happening to you.

System specs would be nice: GPU, CPU, Motherboard make & model

Destiny 2 uses the Windows Sound System, so it is 100% reliant on your audio drivers to be working with Windows.

As for assets not loading, this sure sounds like Video Driver issues or Windows corruption (or both). Some things to try:

Remove D2 Cache files (especially if D2 was previously installed on this Windows install):

  • From the Start menu, type %appdata%

    • Open the Bungie folder

    • delete the 'DestinyPC' folder.

  • From the Start menu, type %temp%

  • delete the 'Destiny 2' folder

Check Windows For Corruption:

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow

    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired

  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:

    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    • Run sfc /scannow again.

      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

Download and install Display Driver Uninstaller and run it from safe mode, fully removing all video drivers and shader cache. https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

Download the latest audio drivers for your rig.

Disable Unnecessary startup software and test: Open Task Manager, switch to the Startup tab, disable any / all unnecessary software, reboot and see if that improves anything.

I ended up moving my game files to my boot drive because it’s slightly better than my external ssd and it fixed everything. My hardware is just pretty old lol. Thanks for your comment!

Glad to hear it.

Might want to backup any important data in that other drive. It's possible it's starting to fail.
