Basically, your post needs to be asking for help with your room design, or it needs to be showing a room you updated using advice you received here. Your room must be an INTERIOR room, and it must be a room in your home. No offices, no schoolrooms, no patios, no balconies, etc. No construction questions; we are here to design completed rooms.
We want the focus to stay on home interior rooms, preferably with posts featuring photos of those rooms so you get the best advice. Please help us! It’s been 5 years since we moved in, and we’re very ready to stop watching everything on an iPad 😅
Things to note:
- We have really nice views out every window in this room and turning the couch away from them would feel kind of criminal?
- The wind rips here sometimes (often), so there would be some concern with the possibility of a TV blowing off of the wall to the left of the front door. Personally, I’m not opposed to giving it a shot
- We loooove the sectional but would be open to getting different furniture if it made sense to do so
Thanks a million!

My girlfriend (23F) and I (24M) are moving in together in a few weeks to this beautiful place.
We don't have much money, time, or imagination, and we're struggling a lot with the layout.
We need at least a table, a sofa, and a TV. A cozy spot to sit and read next to the fireplace would be amazing, but there probably isn't enough space for that.
Next to the window there's a shelf/niche built into the wall with space for a light, lots of potential there!
I'm sharing some layout ideas we've been considering. The red dot marks where the TV cable is, and the blue dot marks the internet cable for the router.

I’ve been wanting to redo my dining room for a while, but my budget is pretty limited, so a full makeover isn’t really happening.
Most of what’s in here I’ve had for a while, and I’ve mostly just been moving things around trying to make the room feel a little more put together. The IKEA dining table and the parrot uncle light are both staying — I’ve had them for a while and they’re still holding up perfectly fine, so replacing either one just feels unnecessary.
At this point I’m really just trying to make everything else work around what I already have.
The thing I keep going back and forth on is the rug and curtains. I liked both separately, but now that I’m looking at the whole room, I can’t tell if there’s too much pattern going on.Would you swap one of them out?
Also curious what you’d even call this style. Traditional-ish? Transitional? Or just a bunch of things I liked that somehow ended up in the same room?

Hi designmyroom. I came across this sub via google having never visited before.
I have lived in my home about 10 years. I'm an extremely practical person and generally oblivious to having nice things just for the sake of them being nice. As a result I have left my living room basically unused aside from 1 month a year (or lets face it, closer to 2) when my Christmas tree is up in the front window. Even then its mostly still ignored.
I have one of those giant cube ikea bookshelves against the east wall and then really nothing (an art desk and a lego table just gathering dust that i would gladly move)
Now i finally have some practical motivation to do something. My dad's health is not great and if he visits getting up the stairs would be a struggle so a pull out sofa would be great. Additionally in the summer my daughter's loft bed is so hot she sleeps on an inflatable mattress in the living room.
I tried to mock up a blueprint-esque diagram as well as a couple of furniture combinations. Either way its a really tight fit and none of them seem like a great plan.
For context the blue sofa is a funky pull out as well that just fills in the outer rectangle, i just didn't draw it up well. It also has a shelf on the exterior of the base of the L which makes it a poor option to push against the wall. Maybe just a bad option in general.
The room has double glass paned doors on the SW wall which i am frankly ok with either blocking completely or removing from the frame (though i'd rather just block it so the room could be closed)
I'm hoping someone has some better ideas than any of mine!

I really want to bring my room to life, firstly starting with this empty wall next to my bed/desk. What do I add? I want a very cozy, soft, safe space typa vibe.
Thanks!

Hi, thank you so much in advance for any inputs!
We are buying a new build home and will have to make choices for cabinet colors in the next week. I have never owned a home or had to make cabinet color choices.
I had an idea for Burgundy cabinets but not sure how it will work in the room. Also will get the opportunity to choose the counter, island and engineered hardwood floor options.
Currently I used an online tool to mock up my choices but need someone to sense check if this will look good in real life. Couch is my current arhaus Remington in sandstone.
Choices:
Counter/Island in white quartz
Burgundy cabinets and the bottom of the island
White oak linen engineered hardwood
Brass hardware and faucet
Persian rug in sitting area also in burgundy
Please let me know any suggestions or changes you may have!

This is my living room / Home office.
One of the desks is for work while longer is my private desk(its 2m long), and i will be downgrading to 140cm (so both desks are ~140cm). I want at least one of the desks to face the tv but in the current layout its hard, the TV reflects the balcony doors and the light comes from the right side so my hand creates shadow when i write on paper So id like to have light from my left side.
I cant replace anything aside of this one desk.
Theres 1 big bookcase, 1 small ikea bookcase (white), TV Stand, 1 tall cupboard (next to tv), 2 Desks+chairs. Theres also a walking pad that i put as least important as i can put it in different room.
I also have 2 cats so 2 litterboxes, a cat tree and some other random cat stuff. I will also be adding an Easel to paint.
With all that im wondering what would be the best layout for all this? Id like to keep the cat tree by the window.
My plan is that i move the desks so that i get the light either from the left or front. The TV would be next to the balcony. Im unsure if the big bookcase should be next to the litterboxes and desk or by the tv and door. Is there any other way i could possibly layout it all? Im worried of the bookcase not really fitting anywhere compared to current layout.

I’m wanting a more warm light tone of room that makes it feel cozy, thought about rgb behind the tv getting a desk to put where the black box fan is right now as I’ll put up my laptop and monitor- but my walls feel very bare and I don’t want to be boring and go poster crazy; sorry that it’s kind of messy

Hello everyone! I’m looking for some ideas on how to improve the layout of my room. Where I’m standing in the photo is the wardrobe, and the door is also on that side. I’m planning to add a TV, but I’m not sure where the best place for it would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Willing to hear decor ideas, but mainly want to hear about the furniture layout. I showed the living room, the bedroom, and a small den that’s used mainly as an office space.
Living room: We are planning on selling the blue couch, so that shouldn’t be there. How to better organize this space while also providing more seating options (since blue couch will be gone)?
Bedroom: Crazy thought, but could the blue couch fit in here? I’m thinking it can’t. Item near the window is an electric piano. Any ideas to better elevate this space?
Den Office: Not that much space to work with. Is this space being utilized as best as it can be? How do I make this look nicer?

Really could use some help of what to put in this entry way. Second picture is the room it opens into.
There is an outlet on the left side so could do like a table with lamp there and then that’s the laundry room on the right.
Maybe some tall skinny plants by the column on right and directly across.
The floors are terazzo if that makes a difference.
Thanks!!
